I know we don't talk about golf very often. But this made headline news today.
After going at each other's throats for the last year, the world's three major golf tours announced a merger today. A little refresher of what the three leagues offered prior to it.
PGA (The standard-bearer): 72 holes, cuts, tours North America, larger schedule.
LIV (AKA, The Saudi Tour): 54 holes, no cuts, tours portions of the world, smaller schedule, larger purses, guaranteed money contracts.
DP (FKA, The European Tour): 72 holes, cuts, tours Europe, parts of Africa, Asia, and Australia, schedule on par with the PGA.
It caught a lot of players off guard, as they were all kept in the dark at what was happening.
Thoughts?

Likely will not last. PGA players that are unhappy are talking about filing an antitrust suit. And this def will become a monopoly.

I think stuff like this and the Super League are inevitable across most sports, especially if transportation technology makes any more advancements before we destroy ourselves.
Golf needs more than just a merger though. It needs some more personality. Some real sons of bitches that'd make John Daly blush.

You think we might get a three-man, end-of-season super tournament between the FedEx Cup winner, and the champs of both the DP and LIV tours?

If there's a big enough profit to be made for all parties involved, then definitely. It's honestly how they should have gone about this instead of being shady and pulling strings in the background. Golf going global would certainly be a big flex, but I think it'd still lag behind a lot of other sports in the long run.

This stuff is the future, but for now, many countries have laws against monopolies, and this is certainly a monopoly. It is a league too big for another league to ever possibly compete with.

This was a hostile takeover, not a merger. The PGA could not afford the legal bills.
