Thursdays. They pre-tape episodes in advance but the show is on Thursday.

According to PWMania, Juice Robinson knocking Jeff Hardy out with the roll of quarters last night was to write him off TV. Jeff can’t enter Canada due to his DUI arrests so they needed an excuse for him to disappear while AEW tours Canada.

The followup to the exciting Collision main event is...another version of the same match. CM Punk and friends vs Jay White and friends. Jay White used to be a world beater, and while I understand it may not be best for him to stroll into AEW and instantly become a champion, I am underwhelmed by his presentation. Hopefully this is all leading to a White vs Punk rivalry, but the focus of the Collison match was clearly Joe vs Punk...Bullet Club Gold were bystanders.

Tony Khan has introduced another dumb gimmick - the blind tag team draw. It may have been interesting if it were an actual blind
draw. In fact the only way to miss that it is blatantly rigged is if you were blind.

I found this interesting as well. I'm not sure it's an Adam Cole thing, I just think MJF is a simpleton. The first thing he says in any promo is an insult to the crowd. He always takes the low-hanging fruit. It doesn't surprise me that this caricature of a villainous wrestler takes the "you're a coward" bait so easily.

I'm still scoffing at CM Punk's tournament opponent being Satoshi Kojima. That's not even NJPW leftovers, that's the leftovers of NJPW's leftovers. That whole tournament lineup is bizarre. Why the fuck do Dustin Rhodes and Roderick Strong qualify? What have they ever done? Also I'm not sure Juice has even won a match in AEW. If you're going to rehash Bullet Club Gold vs Ricky Starks, stick Jay White there and have him beat Punk in the final.

It's exactly like the Lethal Lottery. Nobody is pretending that it isn't. They probably just can't use that name, like how they say Blood N Guts instead of War Games.

Also like the Tango and Cash invitational. Also like the Chikara tag team gauntlet. And how Chikara replaced no shows. How WWE makes tag teams. Like everyone has done this gimmick. It predates WCW even.

And not sure why the WCW influence is a shock when they have several former WCW people in the back.

Hell the red, black and yellow color scheme predates WCW as well by decades.

Resuming the action to my anticipated match of the evening.

Orange Bollocks and Katsuyori Shibata vs Zack Sabre Jr. and Daniel Garcia.

ZSJ with a nice touch: cutting Garcia's entrance off short by starting his own music, showing disrespect to the man he has forced to team with. And he's right. Garcia ain't on Zack's level. Nobody is. To Michinokudriver's point, yes, ZSJ has bulked up substantially since...whenever you last saw him.

The first half of the match sees all pairs of opponents facing off against each other. The dream pairing ZSJ vs Shibata delivered. Shibata is nicknamed "The Wrestler", and he proves it by hanging with ZSJ in a grappling game, one of the few in the world who can do so. Garcia also impressed me. I was a never fan of the idea of him joining J.A.S. and awkwardly embracing sports entertainment, but now I see he has eased himself pretty nicely into the role. He outwrestles Orange and taunts on a couple of occasions. In fact he gyrates so hard that he tears the crotch area of his wrestling pants.

Orange gets isolated for a while in quite entertaining fashion. Shibata gets the hot tag and wrecks shit. There are some really nice sequences involving all four men. There's even a moment where Shibata joins Orange in those mocking light kicks. Shibata is generally on top of both of his opponents, but the match ends when Orange Bollocks unintentionally Orange Punches Shibata, and Garcia rolls him up for a pin over the ROH Pure Champion.

Fun match, but I dislike how Orange Bollocks is both corrupting Shibata and causing him to be pinned for a second time with his shitty Orange Punch. Shibata did not lose that match. Bollocks did.

Statlander vs Valkyrie was...acceptable. I can't grade it any higher than that. I had higher expectations.

Jungle Boy faces DOUKI on Rampage. Interesting that SANADA's Just Five Guys buddies DOUKI and Kanemaru made the flight across. There's also a second iteration of United Empire vs "CHAOS". Swerve Strickland joins United Empire which is an awesome decision. I'd be up for Swerve permanently in UE, although I'm not sure they recruit people from North America. There's always a first.

Eddie Kingston comes out and throws some shots at The Elite. Between him and CM Punk, Elite are getting kinda trashed recently. What's more interesting is Eddie fighting against former(?) best friend Moxley just to get at his worst enemy Claudio. Kingston and Moxley have a brief but heated dialogue. Kingston then introduces Ishii. Interesting because Mox and Claudiao fought against Ishii at Dominion when Mox took the trip over to support Shota.

BCC come out to brawl, which makes sense because Kingston interrupted Danielson's scheduled "I'ma call out Okada" segment. BCC get the upper hand and Danielson successfully calls out Okada. Okada successfully answers the call. Kazuchika Okada, who never wears a t-shirt except when he first appeared on Dynamite, makes his second ever Dynamite appearance...wearing a t-shirt. They have a little brawl, Wheeler Yuta eats a Rainmaker, roll credits.

I get the impression Okada does not like this cheap effortless way of hyping a match on a go-home, but he has a job to do, so he shows up for 2 minutes to get a nice pop, plug his merch, and get a nice payday. At least it was better than Tanahashi's clumsy English video promo from earlier in the show.

I went to a convention in Jacksonville. This was my 1st time going to a con. Britt was very cool & down to earth. 1 of my favorite wrestling interactions ever.

Honestly, takes a special type of asshole to not be nice to a guy on wheels. That is like up there with guys who are assholes to kids. Moreso at a meet and greet.

I helped at a few signing and in general the people were really cool. Most people were happy to be there and meet their fans. And well, get an easy paycheck while doing so.

Like Austin Aries. A con is an interesting setting. You have your belt collectors, autograph seekers, fans like me that give Britt in this case fan mail, & fans like a little girl I saw dressed up in black & gold like the doctor is outside the ring. Many different kinds of fans.
