As reported elsewhere, AEW is trying out Hero as a producer and agent for the next several weeks in AEW and RoH.
Reports are the reaction so far has been mainly positive with many of the Chikara guys, RoH guys and PWG guys happy to have him there. No word yet on those who held grudges with him in the past though, such as Punk or Eddie, and if Hero will be a problem. Punk likely ended his issues with Hero long ago, but Eddie still will not talk much about Hero to this day.
No word yet either on what Hero's role will be but it appears to be a backstage one. Not entirely be shocked if they do sign Hero if he does start to wrestle in either AEW or RoH. He would be a damn good fit for the BCC as well. And if he swallows his pride, Eddie and Hero matches are amazing. Mainly because they legit just beat the fuck out of each other.

I mean Punk originally wanted Hero for the SHIELD in place of Reigns, so I'd say whatever history has been settled.

Good for Chris Hero, hopefully he does well in the role.
Fuck, Eddie Kingston though, never liked the guy, even more so now, that he's had my least favorite match of 2023 (a damn shame Jay White's name got dragged down with it).

Hero was an asshole to Eddie so the hate is totally justified. Lots of guys confirmed Hero being an asshole in 2002 to 2006 period. He drove Blackjack to quit by constantly claiming he would hurt people on purpose and pushing promoters to not use him.
Same with Punk, but hard to hate on Hero for trying to fuck over your career on the east coast, when you went on to hold the WWE belt and Hero never made it to main roster. But Hero would purposely tell people to leave Hero behind when working the east coast, despite knowing that feds wanted Punk. Was how he ultimately kept Punk from Chikara and CZW.
Hero is lucky his push out of Chikara happened before social media took off. Reason he got banned from the fed was he was fucking the guys he trained girlfriends in exchange for promising to push them. He would also try to find reason to take the gals he trained or the guys girls out of town to fuck them when they didn't really have a good other way to get home.
That side of Hero is not well known, and really Eddie only hinted at it in older interviews. Mostly guys not in the biz anymore are the ones who talk about that side of him.
As most people know though Hero always had his runs abruptly end without warning in feds. The backstage shit is why. IWA-MS, TNA, Chikara, CZW, RoH, first NXT run etc.
Hero never made it to the main roster or a TV show despite being scouted since 2001 for a very good reason, he is problematic as fuck backstage. If he changed great, but if not gonna be problems in the near future as Hero starts to bang the girls and old wounds reopen.

20+ years of problematic behaviour and a not a single accomplishment worth talking about... he's no has-been, he's a never-was.
I don't understand why AEW keeps picking up these guys.
Even Eddie. I mean, everyone talks about Punk being a prick, but Kingston just screams 'dickhead.' He hates everyone and can't work for shit and like Hero has never achieved anything outside of a niche indie career.

He plans to train when he retires so the training center is perfect for him. Only reason he did not go last time was he was not ready to move to training completely yet, so he signed with AEW instead.
I suspect it is Del Rey who is pushing hard for him as Eddie was one her last, and best, matches.

c Where'd you get this idea Hero & Punk had heat? I was very tuned into the indie scene from 01-05 and heard no mention of this. I just scoured the internet for more Hero/Punk dirt and still found nothing. Punk is not shy. He has heat with roughly half the people in the business. Yet I could find not a single mention beyond you of Punk having heat with Hero. Nothing from Punk or Hero in all their shoot interviews. Nothing from even some random fan on Reddit trying to stir the pot. Punk worked one CHIKARA show, their debut, decided it wasn't for him, and would later have heat with Quack over the CP Munk parody. The real story is simply a clash of personalities between Quack & Punk with Punk thinking "CHIKARA was a bunch of nerds." He literally said this is an ancient shoot interview! Video has been deleted, but the comments here explain Punk's issue with CZW www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/15kfmt/cm_punk_talks_czw/ Spoiler Alert: it had nothing to do with Chris Hero. Plus, as @ness already mentioned, Punk wanted Hero in the Shield. Why would he want the guy he allegedly has super duper mega heat with in a stable he's to be associated with? Gonna have to red flag your wild claim as FAKE NEWS. I mean it's not even PEER REVIEWED!

What would say is peak Hero? 2007 was up but the 2nd KOW run in ROH was probably where I thought he was the best he's ever been.

Gonna have to red flag your wild claim as FAKE NEWS. I mean it's not even PEER REVIEWED! From SMV's Interviews with a Hero: The Chris Hero story where Hero talks about Punk being a dick and miserable to travel with, so he would tell him there was no room when he would work Chikara so he did not have to be in the car with him for hours at a time. He was not kind at all to Punk. The 2003 one basically buried Punk. Was two interviews one from 2003 and one from 2011. Said after they both made it to WWE they mended fences a bit but Punk was furious when he found out Hero was costing him work on the East Coast, which led to most feds picking Hero or Punk, because Punk did the same shit to Hero when he got work.

Being a prick and miserable to travel with is likely the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Punk.

c Where'd you get this idea Hero & Punk had heat? From SMV's Interviews with a Hero You got me on this one. Story checks out. Surprised this never got more play considering both guys always had their haters. *raises hand* What would say is peak Hero? Some time after 2005 because 01-05 Hero was pretty much the worst. Every Hero match but one* was twice as long as it needed to be and I did not share c's cravate enthusiasm. For me it was the Orton's chinlock of indie wrestling. He was one of my least favorites in all of wrestling during that span. *That awesome Joe match in IWA Mid South where Hero cut the crap for once and FOUGHT in front of a red hot crowd. Best Hero match. I also liked a Hero & Quack vs. Swiss Money Holding 30 minute draw I saw live at a CHIKARA show. Would probably hate it on tape tho. Being a prick and miserable to travel with is likely the nicest thing anyone has ever said about Punk.

Cravate Hero was also like peak prick Hero in the ring. After this he moved into the KoW era and while a great tag team, he lost some of his charm. Also no more Rubix Cube and he started his elbow nonsense.

Still think it was a lame finisher compared to his other moves, sans maybe the carvate finishers.

Weird talk from Tony. He says he is chipping away at Hero trying to get him back to the ring. He could be the BCC last member, reuniting the Kings of the Wrestling.
