His boss battles were always fun and I was just mad they were too easy. Sometimes I'd prolong them just for the music. Don't you just respect that? Sure later on there were other bosses, but the classic trilogy he was fighting you the whole time. Every world he was the boss. He didn't hide behind Robot Masters, Koopalings or other filler. He was trying to end the game the whole time. He took it seriously. Sure it didn't help and clearly a case of "hard not smart"... but that's because he respected the ART of it.

Like Sonic 1's first boss was on another level vs. 2. That WRECKING BALL could catch you if you're getting too greedy with the jumps. All #2 could do was shoot a slow bullet at the end.

And the speed he ran in #1. People say he shouldn't be that fast, but he was alone and without his buggy. Dude Sonic is destroying robots with a spindash. Lex uses the suit because obviously. ADRENALINE RUSH. Just like Moms who grow strong enough to lift cars for their baybays... this is the same. Plus he had long ass legs like a greyhound.

Plus he's only there for the climax usually.

The anxiety of no rings is no joke cuz there's no save feature until 3 (and their endless remasters). If you're THERE, you're on your last legs. And now they're throwing skill and memorization patience in the mix. But it's kinda perfect. "Your speed has no power here" - the whole game you're arrogant and taking DAMAGE like Wolverine cuz you know you can. So you're sloppy. Can't be sloppy when I'm not easily exposed on the DEATH EGG.

And really how many little brothers have MEMORIES of playing Tails and eating shit like a jobber. Are there "Tails" people out in the world? Like is that a diagnosis? "It all started with my brother never sharing Sonic 2". I think I have a "Tails" personality but early birth alignment allowed me to always be 1P. So I never got to experience it. I wasn't confident enough to be Sonic.

The battles aren't super hard and there's ways to really make them quick if that's your bag, but it's far from easy getting to them. It's almost like an interactive finish line. Ain't that what it's all about? Palms sweaty last life you're gonna die, but then it's the killing BLOW oh my god. That feeling is what these battles all have. Like not for nothing I'm seeing quality even if nostalgia is getting in the way. Eggman is the standard. If you have a bad time with Eggman you're doing it wrong.

I always struggled with the bubbles. Later in the game so I was "worn down" when I finally get here. It's probably his weakest performance yet, but I think it gets the nod for being one of the ones who has taken me out. See I think just a straight up laser fight would've been more fun. That's some Dr. Wily Gangster shit right there. He's laughing and doing "excellenet" mr. burns style behind a laser shield. He's pure EVIL.

Yeah Metal Sonic... I should try to finally beat. The concept of "forehead" was lost on me. And it was right before I got internet so there'd be a few more years until the idea of looking shit up would be known and I was long past Sonic 2 time. Death Egg is the vilest "that didn't even count" bullshit because I can never tell if the claws are considered out or not. Would be a crazy gimmick if all boss battles were no rings. The way you can zoom through some without taking a hit they might as well be.

This all probably just belongs in the Sonic thread. I suppose if emotions can come out of me like this, maybe he does deserve to stick around. Get that payday home boy.

Tails flying you up to a part b of the same boss battle is him doing some HEAVY LIFTING. Probably seeing Knuckles as a threat and is gonna be damned if he ain't getting royalties here.

Eggman really be building shit here. Imagine if he put his mind for good. But it's like Otto Octavius. You can never be with that haircut and face piece. Nothing screams "I'm too old for this shit" like the boss just dumping a cannon ball on the ground. He does love fricken laser beams. Sometimes it's just bad design. Like the door to the cannonball hotwheels tracks is perfect for Sonic to reach. Outside of that you had him KING. Take nothing away he ALWAYS sells for the babyface's strikes.

For real... couldn't you make an argument that without him Sonic actually doesn't get over? A lot of villains are simply stand ins. Before Bowser developed his personality in Mario RPG he was the same "nothing" boat.
