Someone brought up a good point in a discord I chill on, with 80k paid, this means they got to try to run again next year right? I wouldn’t. I would do it every few years to let the demand build back up again. I’ve been burned doubting AEW before so I’m not saying they couldn’t do it, but it would for sure be difficult to do it next year as well. I think a better idea is to repurpose All In as AEW WrestleMania and move it every year but hold it in a stadium. That’s probably unlikely though because it would impact All Out. Bringing All In back every 2-3 years as a huge fuck off show would be the right call. Do Tokyo Dome next, back to Chicago or Vegas for the next one, Wembley again after that. Or something along those lines. … Fun that we are literally witnessing the biggest wrestling event of all time and we are talking about CM Punk being in a fight. But I agree with Todd: if what the dirtsheets say is true, Punk is in the right here. Perry is an idiot for stepping to him like that.

That is mostly because people look at the US market, where tickets are bought by scalpers who then can resell right on the ticketmaster site with a steep markup. WM sold out for instance, but almost no one who bought tickets plan to attend. Same thing happened at Clash at the Castle and All In. People just want to see their favourite WWE and AEW stars and expect a good card and usually get it. How many big wrestling shows these days are bad? They never are. Fans trust the companies and buy in advance if they plan to go.

Or, make it like the Olympics, or the FIFA World Cup, and hold once every four years. Replace All Out with All In every four years.

Well guess this is up to the UK crowd. If they do not want tours yearly, they do not want tours yearly. UK expensive for Tony to run, so if people just want to watch US shows sure he will be happy to just do that.
Running small shows though is not likely in the cards since Tony is paying travel and hotel costs.

that we are literally witnessing the biggest wrestling event of all time What is the metric for this? Tickets sold? It is wild that it is in the conversation by any criteria. It does show that we are in a different world as far as entertainment goes and the ability to reach certain numbers. Current AEW is far from the hottest wrestling company ever, but having a market like the UK that is begging for it and maybe even more just the ease of the modern world, makes this sort of thing possible. WWE has been running Rumbles and SummerSlams in stadiums for years now when they'd never consider doing that in 1999-2001 when business was molten hot. But nowadays someone from any corner of the world can, in less than an hour, buy a ticket, book flights, book hotels, check out local restaurant reviews, all on their phone without ever leaving their seat in front of the TV.

It’s ‘paid attendance’ according to Tony. I don’t really get the record talk, it’s confusing as hell. Dave said WrestleMania 32 was 92,000 in the Observer but that has somehow come down to 80k according to Brandon Thurston. Twitter is predictably fighting over it.
Like with all wrestling shows, we’ll never really know.

Want to believe 80k is a true number, but also heard 10k or so tickets were gifted, which get us above the amount of seats if both are true.

I will be interested to see how they get on next year, after the UK has had Clash at the Castle last year and the first ever AEW show this year.
Does anyone outside of the wrestling bubble even know this is going on? No mention of this historic event on BBC News. But also, does that even matter?
Does it matter that Joe Bloggs out on the street wouldn't know what either AEW or MJF stood for? That you could tell most people that AEW was the MJF Champion and they wouldn't know any better. Is the convenience of the modern world enough that fandoms can sell out big events on the regular?
Or maybe I'm completely out of the loop (very likely) and AEW is more well-known in the mainstream than I think it is.

Or maybe I'm completely out of the loop (very likely) and AEW is more well-known in the mainstream than I think it is. Interesting stuff. The mainstream in modern society is an interesting concept. I’m not sure how much it really exists anymore outside of Taylor Swift. WWE is one of the few entertainment businesses that really believes in it and goes after it, yet we all know WrestleMania is filled with hardcore wrestling fans every year. My take is that these days, there is so much easy access to these markets, the mainstream doesn’t really matter. AEW have a big, albeit limited, following, but they are mobilised. They will go anywhere. The first fans that got interviewed in the crowd today on the pre-show were American. It’s an event. It’s FOMO. I’ll also reiterate what I said earlier. These days the wrestling companies really try to satisfy the fans with the action, rather than build an angle to sell the next house. The fans trust the companies and are willing to put their cash down for wrestling. It’s better management of existing fans than it is growth of wrestling’s audience, although the Bloodline stuff over the last couple of years saw the first upturn in interest since probably 2007. That said, I think you probably would be surprised how many people have heard of AEW and chat wrestling in general. Maybe they don’t watch every week, but there’s a passive interest.

The world is basically curated for each person now. Mainstream pop culture, if not fully out for the count, is on its last legs. I’ll also reiterate what I said earlier. These days the wrestling companies really try to satisfy the fans with the action, rather than build an angle to sell the next house. The fans trust the companies and are willing to put their cash down for wrestling. It’s better management of existing fans than it is growth of wrestling’s audience This rings true to me also. Fans of current wrestling absolutely love the modern style and know that will be delivered at almost every show. A remarkable party thread for a remarkable show. How many people in this thread are watching the event? It does sort of make the point by itself.

Have every odd year be in Chicago, and every even year be in Jacksonville.

Perhaps the pandemic was the best thing for live events. Fans came back rabid after the lockdowns were over, and not just wrestling.. sport, concerts, etc.

Tony just said the actual attendance was 90k with comps. So he Vinced the numbers. It’s wrestling so whatever, but Dave will run with it as a legitimate number, no questions asked.

Perhaps the pandemic was the best thing for live events. Fans came back rabid after the lockdowns were over, and not just wrestling.. sport, concerts, etc. Not entirely though. They came back for the big events. The smaller events are struggling so bad now that ticket fees skyrocketed along with base prices. Like people will pay big cash for Swift or All In but not your regional WWE show that costs nearly the same price as All In, or drop 200 to see Metallica.

There is a reason of the 4 pillars he is on the preshow. Also, this is a real glass comment he made he didn't need it. I need context for this post. I'm lost. Jack Perry is one of the ones that has gone on record that doesn't like to listen to vets. And a few people with podcast have said him wanting to use real glass was dumb backing what Punk said. And he makes a point to say he is using real glass into the camera doing his match.
