Sad but not unexpected. SI has been dying for many years. A magazine published infrequently can't complete with the internet's up-to-the-second updates for sports news.

Thank goodness for all the SI books I've collected throughout the years. All the stories, and the incredible photography. It will all be missed.
And oh yeah, the famed annual swimsuit issues. May we have a moment's silence for those.

My grandma would always keep me subbed growing up in the 90’s. I grabbed a few issues about a decade ago, the JJ Watt cover was one. But reading the actual magazine it struck me how far it had fallen from the glory days, it was about half the size and I actually think articles would be incomplete with a link to finish reading online.

End of an era. Only had two subscriptions- one around 89-90 that came with a sweet Dazzling Dunks and Basketball Bloopers tape, and another one in the mid 2000s, but SI was my go read on trips to medical professionals, and many a friend would have issues laying around. RIP SI.

Also, about 15 years ago, I went to a yard sale, and the seller was giving away old SIs from the 90s for free!
So naturally, I took the whole bundle.

One of my most prized possessions; the 1996 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit VHS tape, I think it's like 20 minutes long just clips of them taking pics of the models with interviews, one of my favorite 90's babes Kathy Ireland is all over the thing including on the cover. It's just one of those oddball VHS tapes that I fucking love everything about, the fact that it will always only exist only on that format, it's utter uselessness, plus bleeding out of date times with the Kathy Ireland and that magazine will no longer even exist anymore. It's like my version of the Windows 95 tape with Friends actors(one of those holy grails for oddball VHS tape collectors).
