Salads

Ok, first off. We need to define salad. Tuna salad and other types of meat spreads. Not salad. Fruit suspended in jello and whip cream. Not salad. 3 beans and dr pepper and vinegar. Not salad. Strawberry pretzel and whip cream. Not salad. Pasta salad. Not salad.
I am talking the base needs to have leafy greens. Nothing seems to bring out the nutrition expert in everyone like a plate of iceberg lettuce.
I recently feel like I upped my salad game and discovered hearts of romaine as the peak of the leafy green game. Which lettuce type are you straight munching on?
The homemade salads I have been doing lately have been essentially southwest salads. Guacamole, tortilla strips, black beans, roasted corn and queso fresco. There are a ton of ways to stack up stuff on the leafy greens. I love crab cakes and spicy mayo too. Any salad favs or recommendations?

I relatively recently discovered I'm a big fan of how plain arugula tastes.

Just to be clear, romaine hearts are really just like a slightly more robust version of iceberg lettuce... right? I'm not hating, just want to make sure I'm following along correctly.
For light salads, if I'm thinking of the right think, chopped romaine hearts make a hella-dope base. But from a taste standpoint, if not arugula, I'm all about that baby spinach yo.

Been recently doing romaine hearts + feta + dried cranberries + hard boiled eggs. That sounds delicious! I'm a fan of fruit in my salads. Iceberg lettuce is water. There is absolutely no nutrients in it. I tend to go for darker leafy greens. Most recently spinach. However, I'll take a nice steak over a salad any day. 😜

Ugh, you fruits mixing fruits with your salads are nuts! The sweetness stands out like a sore thumb at best and punches your tongue right in the face at worst. Salads are best kept in the salty to savory (or umami, whatever) taste range IMO.

I love the concept of the combo of eating cried cranberries and boiled eggs. Can you imagine eating that outside of salad? Like in a bowl. Diced hard-boiled egg and dried cranberries. I would be so random. Slap down some greens and it all comes together. I love random.
