Do you still fuck with fast food? I gave it up for a bit there but I've been eating it again. But I'm about to cut it off again because these prices are mad disrespectful yo. I don't like using apps to save a few bucks (aka everyone else subsidizes it) because it's a pain to have ANOTHER login/CC storage to deal with. But that's really the only way they're worth it and even then it's still not really worth it. Everyone on reddit has taco trucks/local spots that evidently charge less than $5 for everything but not here booboo.

I do not eat out anymore. Prices went too high to justify it. Used to be it was cheaper to eat out than to cook at home. Now you can cook at home for a fraction of the price of eating out.
I get eateries are screaming about not being able to survive, but they kind of did it to themselves when their prices went higher than most people can afford. Like when people are mailing themselves boxes of food to cook instead of considering eating out you know you got serious problems.
Funny binging Kitchen Nightmares, overpriced food is one of the major things that causes restaurants to apply to be on the show.

Generally grab a Little Caesars pizza on a Wednesday night for my boys so I don't have to make dinner that night and toss the leftovers in their lunch the next day, so that's a great double whammy.
I occasionally get Wendy's. App always has freebies or $5 off when you spend $20. Can usually get two jr bacon cheeseburgers and medium fries for like $6. Otherwise no.

When fast food isn't cheap the only reason to have it left is convenience.
I think what you have to do now is chase the loss-leaders and specials rather than always getting the same thing. We like Wendy's and the Biggie Bag (formerly 4 for $4) is a deal. Their app offers $3 off $15 here which is stackable when redeeming points. The free item from points also qualifies for the $15 threshold, so we'll include a junior bacon cheeseburger for free (best fast food burger) to hit $15 and get a total of $5.75 off.
I don't like ordering on apps but I do scan in the store for the deals.

Fast Food

There's a lot of places out there right now that do some great fast food.
Zambreros does a mean burrito bowl that I doubt I could replicate for the same price at home. And there is a local pizza place that is far too cheap for the quality of food it produces, it's cheaper to order a pizza delivered than go to a supermarket, buy it and prepare it.
The more " traditional " fast food, I haven't touched KFC in years. It seemed to make me feel sick every time I ate it. McDonalds offers way too much variety to be ignored, from coffee to ice cream on top of the normal stuff, so you'll probably see me in the drive thru at least once a week. There's a Red Rooster near work, and I'll admit I frequent that dirty money laundering place far too often.

I gotta move to Australia. They have working ice cream machines. I have noticed other countries seem to have more "flavor" to their menu offerings just via variety. Always get trolled on reddit because people post threads about new items but it's like only in Poland or some such nonsense.

When I was a kid we went to McDonald's on a weekly basis, which was likely tremendously unhealthy, but it doesn't seem to impact young 'uns all that much.
As an adult I consume fast food rarely. Three months ago I had the first Subway of my life, and it was great, so I'm having it approximately once a fortnight. My former fast food love of McDonald's, maybe twice a year. To be honest most of the time I eat fast food is when I am roped in by my colleagues to get some lunchtime chicken and fries from the local joint. They moan about how unhealthy they are while gorging on the food. I gorge as well, but I do not moan. The way I see it, I generally eat healthily, having fast food once or twice a month won't hurt.

Aww yeah! Proper food. My kind of thread. About time we class up this joint. I'm with Emperor . McDonald's was the place to be as a kid. Truly the height of cuisine during the 80s into the 90s. I wasn't even a Happy Meal addict like most of my peers. I just liked the food and the experience. That's where you went after big baseball wins. That's where you went to celebrate the last day of school. I was a Nugget Guy. Usually lived large with the 20 piece. It's McDonald's. Go big or stay home and eat a salad like a NERD. Anyway, pretty sure my Nugget record was 29. You young 'uns have to understand "Golden Arches Bad" didn't really become a thing until the 2000s. Then every other asshole you came across who heard about some documentary would be like "you know nuggets are made out of rat" or whatever the rumor was and I would correctly reply with "Then rat is good. I like rat. Now shut the fuck up, Donnie." Until then most everyone I knew was a McDonald's Guy/Gal. Confession Time: I haven't gone to Mickie D's much in the last 15 years, possibly not at all in the last 5, and that makes me sad. Sorry, Ronald! Sorry, Mr. Kroc, may you rest in peace, you great, great man. Burger King was a sometimes place growing up. Likely when the parents got tired of McDonald’s. Not gonna lie. I always felt like I was cheating on McDonald's when I went to BK. It never sat well with me even if I did like the food well enough because, duh, all fast food is good. Delicious Roy Rogers fried chicken was a special treat you got in those days from time to time. Usually during the summer when heading down to the shore for some wholesome swimming. By 02-03 I was an Arby's Guy. My friends and I would eat there 5-6 days a week. Every weekday in between school and work and sometimes on the weekends. Classic Roast Beef Sandwich, Curly Fries, Chocolate Chip Cookie & Small Drink was my order 95% of the time. I am nothing if not predictable. Only change came on those rare occasions I happened to be super duper hungry. Then I'd go for the Big Montana. The staff knew us and they knew when we'd be there so those good people always made sure my cookie was nice and warm as they must have once overheard me saying that's how I liked them. I've only been to Arby's maybe 2-3 times in the past year. Also sad! 04-06 was all about Taco Bell because I lived a night owl lifestyle and that was the only convenient fast food place open after midnight. Two Soft Tacos was my usual order. It went well with the drunkenness. I don't eat as much fast food nowadays because I am old and boring. These days I just go where the deals are. For a while it was Burger King from time to time. Lately it's been all about Popeye's. Not sure I ate there in my life until 6 months ago. Now I go about twice a month. Oh, and I've had a go to pizza place at any given time since like the early 90s. A bunch of different places as it's typically a mix of convenience, deals, and falling into a pattern. I've gone through phases with most major chains and a bunch of local places. Nowadays there's one with a good deal on Wednesdays that I've been going to just about every week after work for the past 2-3 years. This post has made me hungry and now I must eat.

Donnie def seems like the type to point out wrestling is fake. I just get that STANK from him. My Mom cooked plenty for the record, but we also ate a lot of fast food especially as we grew older. So it was a cornerstone of my diet pretty much my whole life. I fully expect to not make it to retirement simply on that fact. Honestly I'm surprised I'm still alive. My first job was fastfood. I did apply to McDonalds but they weren't having it, which is just as well because that was probably too chaotic for me. Hardees was more my style and that was my first job. For whatever reason ours served fried chicken so I was generally on batter duty the whole time. They often said I was the best at it, but just between you and me I think they were working me just they didn't have to deal with it. Despite that we weren't Hardees people.
Few years ago for Christmas they decided to cater KFC as our work meal. Literally everyone groaned, meanwhile I'm over here thinking... who the fuck is you? Like you're better than the colonel or something. I hate how snobby people get with certain chains. And ya know something, very little if any leftovers when I cleaned that bitch up. Stop trying to act like you've above this. YOU'RE. NOT.

Haven't ate at McDonalds or Burger King or any of that stuff in years. The last time I had something from that was a free chicken sandwich from BK and it upset my stomach within a day. The breakfast stuff is alright but I don't really mess with fast food. Pizza is as far as I go if that even counts.

Shame on me for neglecting to mention Chik-Fil-A in my previous post. Only go there a few times a year but it's always worth it. I'm apparently a hard person to buy gifts for so I have this one aunt who has given me a Chik-Fil-A gift card every Christmas season for at least a decade now. It's much appreciated. I'm with @ness . My parents also cooked proper meals when I was growing up and we'd all eat together at the table as a proper family. That's probably why I was such a fast food mark! Because it was more a special treat than a daily occurrence. Well, at least until I went through that fast food every day phase during the mid 2000s. I should probably weigh 400 pounds. I don't even weigh 200! If I do drop dead at 50 at least I'll go out relatively happy and on my own terms. Eating what I want, turning down promotions (another rant I'll need to let out one day), and watching old wrestling. Better to die young and (relatively) happy than to live a long life full of misery. My favorite is people feeling guilty over eating fast food. "OMG I ate this delicious thing that I like and now I hate myself for it " People are idiots. So many folks out there longing to be miserable. Or even worse, thinking they deserve to suffer. Do what you like. Stop caring what other people think. Hedonism is so underrated, but PW ain't ready for that conversation. Ness bringing up the time he had KFC at work is what made me remember Chik-Fil-A in the first place. We went through the same song and dance at my job a month or two ago. Guess it was must have been this past Christmas season given the timeline. Nobody could agree on anything. This one doesn't eat meat. That one doesn't eat pork. Another one can't eat pizza. Somebody else claimed not to eat fast food, period. Naturally I couldn't care less. Just bring me some sort of fast food. I'll eat it. Boss eventually got tired of all the waffling and just ordered Chik-Fil-A. As with Nessie's job, people ate it up real quick, furthering my belief that some people just live to complain.

My parents cooked most every meal and we ate around the table as a family as well. They are good cooks, too.
One of the issues is most of the established brands have been bought by VC or conglomerates. They need to recoup their expense and they don’t do that by improving the product. They cut corners and raise prices.
Side note, this weekend some people were reminiscing about Arby Melts and how they went away. We looked it up and they are still available in Canada, 3 for $10. That’s 2.50 USD per sandwich. The US pays more for prescription drugs and Arby’s.

But a new one is being built about 5 minutes from my house. And right beside it? Our future first ever Krispy Kreme. That'll be a good meal. I had Arby's last week when I was in Minnesota/North Dakota. Can't remember exactly where we were when we pulled off the highway to grab lunch. McDonald's for the kids, Mrs. Foos wanted Taco Bell. I saw the Arby's right across the street and knew that a beef and cheddar and curly fries were destined to be in my belly.

When I was a kid we had take-out 1-3 times a fortnight. KFC or Fish and Chips on a Sunday night, we would go out for a Chinese meal probably once a fortnight.
I am trying to shake the fast food habit, it's a killer when you have an irregular work schedule like me. Lots of travel and driving often leads to poor food choices. When I was really fat, it was KFC that was my weapon of choice...
Now I have cleaned it up a bit and it is take out maybe once a week, the most usual suspects are Pizza or Thai. We may go for lunch or dinner at a cafe/restaurant once a week, but that is normally for real food so I don't count that. There was a cafe near me that changed their menu but they had an amazing Buddah bowl with bacon, that's not something I would have eaten a few years ago... So there's progress. If I get take out for lunch, it's a Sashimi Bento Box.

Didn't know Krispy Kreme was still around. They were all the rage here for about 5 minutes in the 90s. Then they disappeared as quickly as they came. Truly the Zima of donut shops. Just checked and we actually do still have some Krispy Kremes in Maryland, all over on the other side of town. Interesting.

We do A&W every now and again and I have been to McD's within the past 3 months, but usually it's pizza or dinning in at a sit down restaurant.
We started doing Chef's Plate and I am now making my own pizzas. It's healthier and saves money.

The only reason I eat out most times is because then I don't have to cook and it's just plain easier after a 12+ hour workday. Very few restaurants are so good that I find it better than homemade. It's strictly convenience for me.

I haven't tried it yet, but a few of my customers are raving about services like "Hello Fresh" where you do the cooking, but they send everything to you with the recipe and ingredients with just what you need: It makes sense as it takes a lot of the guess work and the food waste that happens when you shop to prepare a certain meal.

While I've never subscribed, I'm hearing that a lot of younger professionals enjoy it. They want to cook from home but they don't want to spend the mental energy figuring out the meal. They don't want to spend the time grocery shopping. They don't want to waste money on the food waste as iNCY mentioned with buying certain specialty products for just one meal. Maybe once my children are older and out of the kid food phase and more adventurous I'd look into it.

We are doing Chef's Plate. That way I don't have to think about what I'm going to make. It's all there and it's good for you. We do 3 meals a week (1 vegetarian) and sub in stuff that's in our fridge/freezer for the other days. There's usually one day we do a leftovers night. I've lost 5 pounds since we started it.
People might say 'but it's expensive', but honestly we aren't spending any more on groceries then we were before. We also get our groceries delivered because a) it provides income to someone b) if we aren't going into the store we don't make impulsive purchases which rack up the $ and our waist lines.

I make a mean burger, and an even better BLT. But it tastes even better when someone else does it.
I'm surprised Supermarkets haven't jumped on the Hello Fresh trend, and you just click " gourmet burger " and within a hour there's a bag full of ingredients at the door. It wouldn't exactly be difficult.
