From what I understand, there was no beef between the two. He was mainly in NWA and independent circuit...But now that i'm thinking about it, it could've been because he tried to start a union or that he was good friends with Ole Anderson. That could've played a part. But also at the same time, He was good friends with Dusty Rhodes.

That is what I heard too.  Glad he gets to be honored in his lifetime though.  Hope WWE tries to focus on honoring people before they do pass as many get older.
