It's unbelievable to me that the game played out like it did and Edmonton still won. Skinner only allowing 1 goal is absolutely crazy to me. I know they have been dominant in the 2nd half of the season but I did not know they were THAT good. If this game happened 3-4 months ago, Dallas would have won 8-0.

If Skinner can hang with Bobrovsky it's anyone's series. I think that is what it will come down to. Scoring won't be a problem for either team, both defences are playing well, and they both have grinders that will fucking kill you if you try anything, so I think it comes down to if Skinner can keep playing like he did in the last couple games. Florida LOVES scoring garbage goals and if they start going in it's going to get really bad really quick for Edmonton.

Also someone on the Oilers should just commit murder on Sam Bennett in Game 1 because I'm 99% sure he is going to try and concuss Zach Hyman or Connor McDavid first chance he gets. He's done it every series since he got away with it against Matthew Knies last year.

It's going to be an ugly and physical series me thinks. I don't think anyone is more shocked than I am about Skinner. I never thought of him as a starter or first string goalie. He's been one of our weak links throughout the year and not consistent heading into the playoffs. But I tell you the whole team is playing on a different level during the playoffs and especially these last 2-3 games.

Fuck Florida! Go Oilers!

EDIT: I remember being a kid and watching the Oilers win back to back Stanley Cups for 5 years running (damn near anyways-Stupid Habs). It would be surreal to experience it again after 34 years.

As teams continue to improve and parity remains a thing in the NHL thanks to the hard cap, we'll be seeing more and more of this. Pretty soon records aren't going to matter and you're going to have to just look at who is building momentum heading into the playoffs and who maintained that momentum.

Florida did this last year. Kicked the shit out of everyone the last 10-20 games of the season and crawled into the playoffs. Ended up in the finals. Came back from 3-1 against Boston to win in 7, beat the Leafs in 5 who looked like they didn't know the series had started, swept Carolina. They just ran out of gas in the finals and Vegas was too big and strong to overcome.

Tampa coasted for most of the regular season for years then turned on the gas for the last few weeks heading into the playoffs. Made the finals 3 times and won twice. The year they crushed everyone all season and won the President's trophy? Lost to Columbus in the 1st round. They learned their lesson.

Blues in 2019. Last place in January. Decided "we win now" and killed everyone through Feb-April and continued that train into the finals where they beat Boston in 7 and gave us the gift of Brad Marchand crying on the ice.

It's why you have teams with 100+ points out in the first round every year. Partly because the playoff structure is fucking stupid but also because the teams that are motivated by hatred and claw their way into a wild card spot every year keep that attitude going. Once you get past the first round all bets are off and you could be in the finals before you know it.

The Cup is on the ice in game 1?! Should only "be in the house" for an elimination game.

I expect Florida to beat the shit out of Edmonton tonight like Boston did Dallas.

Edmonton should've had some goals in this one. Any other goalie, for sure there'd be some. But it's damn near impossible with this one.

I don't think there's any shame in losing this one. Oilers had 32 shots on net compared to Panthers 18. Bobrovsky is just a beast. Very physical game. I expect it'll get worse as the series goes on.

Buddy of mine flew down to Florida for games 1 & 2. Said it was cheaper to fly down there, stay and buy tickets than getting tickets here. Said he never waited in line for anything and there were hundred of Edmonton fans who flew down there.

This series is over right now.

Outside of a fluke goal, Bobrovsky is unbeatable.

We finally allowed a powerplay goal.

And we played not very good.

I honestly don't think we can even win at home.

I haven't given up hope, but fuck me Bob is a wall. If only we had their goalie. I mean Skinner is...fine, but he's no Bobrovsky. The Panthers better give that guy a raise and a reach around.

I mean other than charging goal (not a great idea), how do you solve the problem of Bobrovsky? 

Losing the first two games on the road is not great, but not the end either. Losing the way Edmonton did though is rough. They followed up a good performance in Game 1 with a worse performance in Game 2. They had a 1-0 lead and did nothing with it, and just let Florida back into the game instead of pouring on the shots and trying to build the lead. Then after the game was out of reach they started acting like morons and taking stupid penalties, two of which might result in suspensions. Trying to rally your team and get your pound of flesh is one thing, but they were straight up being goons. Draisaitl throws a headshot by leaving his feet and (I forget who) speared someone in the dick. If the league wanted to they could really fuck Edmonton for Game 3, and they would be right to do so. Florida got in their heads.

Feels obvious to say but the series is being decided on Thursday. Either Edmonton gets a win at home and rides that momentum to trying to tie the series Saturday night, or they go down 3-0 and you're basically in a hole that almost no team in history has ever climbed out of. And honestly, you have to win both games. Being down 3-1 going back to Florida would almost guarantee the Cup is being awarded in Game 5. You do NOT want to go back to that building down 3-1.

I won't defend their play in Game 2. They started to play desperate and dirty. Draisaitl's hit to Barkov you can clearly see both feet leave the ground, but Luostarinen took himself out trying to take out Foegles.

I know the reason why, but Draisaitl not getting suspended for that is such a joke. Hockey is so bush league with it's discipline.

They want the league to be like this. It’s run by dinosaurs who were 3rd and 4th liners in the 80’s, and an American lawyer who’s only goal is to make the owners as much money as possible. Best sport, worst league.

He should have been disciplined. Playoffs or not. That hit was DIR-TY.  It's one more slippery slope in setting a dangerous precedence.

If Demko didn't get hurt or Dallas didn't have to go through Vegas and Colorado before facing them, I think either one of those teams is playing this series and have at least won a game by now.

You shut down McDavid and Draisaitl and Edmonton has nothing. Florida was always going to do that. They are the best defensive team in the league by far, maybe one of the best I have ever seen at team defence. And if you somehow figure them out, Bobrovsky is there.

And don't dare to compare these guys to the '82-83 Oilers.  That team was young, and made it in only its 4th year in the league.  This team had EIGHT YEARS to make it, and they're squandering what may be their best shot.

While I'd love for us to take home The Cup, we still have some issues and can be easily outplayed. First being our goaltending/defence. It's not consistent and secondly, we seem to play hard and get early leads and then just forget about the second half or 3rd period of the game. I suppose it's easy for me to say sitting on my couch, but us doing that is more consistent than our goaltending/defence. 

Just echoing my thoughts from before...

I'm not invested in hockey like some. People here get mad when I say Skinner is not a starter goalie. He's a backup at best. And don't get me started on defence. 

Still Bob saving 50 of 51 shots is pretty epic. If he's not the MVP...something is wrong.

Pretty much the same thing the Panthers did to Mika, Kreider and Panarin. And Kucherov before that and Pastrnak before that. At some point people just need to give Florida their flowers as the better team.
