They are rich college liberals. They likely believe that Columbia will give in to their demands and they will peacefully exchange back control of the building for Columbia severing ties with Israel, which will end the occupation of Gaza and lead to Palestine becoming their own country.
First can of tear gas coming through a window is going to wake them the fuck up. I imagine police coming in from the roof will as well.

Isn't it weird how calm, non-violent protests always turn violent when the police involve themselves?

Columbia moved to violence before the cops. They documented themselves breaking into the building with a hammer, forcing out janitors and security, then breaking shit to barricade up the place.
In a lot of these people were calm until the people went it on smash and bangs to break them up, but the kids using the seattle anarchist style do not practice civil non-violence.

I will not accept a white cis male mansplaining from his palace of privilege. Not on my watch. I lost it in grad school with the privilege shit. Had a rich white girl lecture me about privilege a week after I had to get the police involved to keep my wife from coming back to the apartment after she got violent. Was always funny, all these champions for the underprivileged would never want to be in my neighbor because of the crime. And by crime I mean I lived in the hispanic neighborhood instead of the posh student one for twice the rent. What is interesting is our school was one known for teaching of privilege theory. For years I would read dissertations to keep up with bleeding edge stuff. One theme from the black students in their papers was the co-opting of minority suffering by the white community via privilege, where they reworked racism to make it about themselves, while enduring none of the suffering. Theo Von does a funny bit, having grown up in a black community. A friend says to him, " look at what you did to us " and he replies, " I'm here too, I'm wearing two t-shirts in winter because I don't have a coat " or something to that effect. Don't assume privilege. I grew up in a largely working class/middle class community. Some people had money - apparently everyone has cash now - but some families were dirt poor. I remember going to some kid's houses, and they were glorified shacks. In hindsight I was perhaps one of the more privileged kids growing up, but it certainly didn't mean we were rich, nor did I feel it.. ok, I'm rambling. The point was, these poor kids were...... white. This is where this entire " check your privilege " thing becomes toxic, telling a young man from a poor broken home that he's privileged and needs to check it, or that's he's part of " the problem ", or his opinions and values are nonsense or worthless because he's a straight, white man is damaging. It's part of the reason why men can't talk about their emotions, because they're continually told someone else has it worse, or at it's extreme it drives some towards the Red Pill Movement and other echo bubbles.

I've played that game where you step ahead or back depending on your answer to a priviledge question. I definitely fall under the broken home, white trash upbringing, BUT even I can admit that even though I was born a woman, I was still born a white woman in North America and with that comes privildege. The fact that I've never had someone not sell me something, rent me a home, etc. because of how I look or that fact that I've never feared being pulled over by the police is priviledge in itself.

Columbia cleared out. 100+ arrested. Students arrested tonight will be expelled. But it is believed now that the people leading the building takeover part of the student protest were not students.
The kids really showed off their hilarious levels of privilege screaming that the police were allowed to remove their masks when arrested. Like no bro, your game is over. While they are handling you with kids gloves for the NYPD, you are still dealing with the NYPD now. You are getting spending a night in jail, getting expelled if a student and being barred from the campus with a restraining order. Kids should be happy they did not get the full NYPD experience and introduced to the nightsticks.

UCLA is the next major campus that needs to clear and is likely to face backlash for doing so. Most other ones kids realized that getting expelled was not worth larping jihad for.

UCLA turned violent last night after a decision was to have the police remain handsoff, and is likely getting cleared today.
Would love to see one town follow up the autonomous zone logic and try a group for treason.

The entitlement of some people. You have the right to protest PEACEFULLY. You do not have the right for your protest to infringe on others rights or demand a food plan. No one is stopping you from going and getting food.

I told this story the other day in person to someone, about 8 years ago an independent store closed down in the area and as I'm managing one of the big 2 retailer's stores, " Anonymous " protesters turned up, masks and all, protesting " big business " then, as the weather got a little warmer and the day a little longer, the protesters were in buying cold drinks from us, still wearing their masks and not seeing the hypocrisy or the irony.
These types of people have no clue.

Did these kids learn nothing from the Vanderbilt takeover that happened like 2-3 months ago?
Student protestors inside Kirkland Hall told The Hustler that they are not being allowed to have food or medicine brought to them or use the restroom, leading people to urinate in bottles. A student protester inside Kirkland Hall granted anonymity for protection from professional retribution said they fear legal trouble for public indecency if they were to pee in a bottle.
Water and food from Panera Bread were taken inside the building around 6 p.m. CDT, which student protesters said were given to police officers on the premises.
During an Instagram Live hosted around 6:30 p.m. CDT, one protestor described that they have needed to urinate “for at least five of the nine hours” that protesters have been inside. They stated that a VUPD officer told them that they would only be allowed to use the restroom if they agreed to be escorted out of the building. The protester stated that they are prone to urinary tract infections and kidney infections and, thus, are especially worried about their health.

Seems most colleges are going to give the students a chance to convince the board to divest from Israel. Like the protests been incredible successful in most of the US.
Only charges that are likely to stick too from the near thousand arrests so far are the Columbia ones taking the building. UCLA may have some stuck as well.
But looking at how this is playing out, votes to divest are in the fall, so likely we just do this all over again when the boards say fuck the students and vote to do nothing. Boards are not educators and simply exist to make sure the colleges make cash. Half may vote against divestment just to hope the students get so pissed off they do not vote.
In the colleges where things are getting violent massive civil rights lawsuits as Jewish students are told they should just stay home and do school remotely if they are afraid of being attacked. Of course the students will pay the settlements with higher tuition costs.

Nah, fuck you, the kids are right, fuck the Zionists and the Israeli apartheid state. Fuck the absurdly militarized American police force. And the fact that you can make seventy-five thousand posts a day about how Trump and the Republican party are bad (they are) but refer to people protesting against a genocide as privileged, entitled children and piss your pants giggling about the armed fascist police assaulting them tells me that your beliefs and your politics are empty, shallow window dressing.
Edit: In fact, framing it as "the Jews and their allies are protesting against Palestine and for the release of the hostages" is just on-its-face cowardly and disingenuous when there have been Jewish people at every single pro-Palestine, Anti-Israel rally speaking out against the actions of Netanyahu, the Israeli government, and the US government for continuing to give Israel literal billions of dollars in military aid to murder children and bomb hospitals. Literal holocaust survivors have spoken out against the actions of Israel against Palestine and compared them to the actions of Nazi Germany. Multiple Israeli state officials have been explicit in their desire to displace or murder every single human being in Gaza and have said "there are no innocent people, every child is a terrorist, every mother is a monster." Netanyahu has repeatedly talked about "finishing the job" and said that they will invade Rafah, the place that they herded and corralled all of the Palestinian people to after destroying their homes, their schools, their hospitals, their churches, everything, and that they will do so whether or not there is a hostage deal. In fact, the families of the hostages have asked multiple times for Israel to stop bombing Gaza so that there is a chance that their families can be released. The invasion has actually killed the hostages that this whole thing was supposedly meant to save. Equating Zionism with Judaism is a manipulative and cowardly move.

I had to deal with kids like these all through grad school. West coast style protesters are disruptive as fuck, costing us entire labs days, and leading to cancelation of numerous lectures. They want to protest peaceful, cool. But when they decide to disrupt the lives of a campus, no we are done. And these kids are worse than I had to encounter as they attacked several Jewish students on campus, setup a checkpoint system to prevents Jews from going into the non-Jewish sections of the campus and have death to Jew posters. Shit clearly got out of hand. Jewish students were told that if they wanted a safe learning environment they had move to remote education for the time being. All the while, this is less than 1 percent of the students in the encampments, with the majority of protesters refusing to join them.
Anyone who is staying right now now wants to fight the police. The campus was closed, everyone told to leave, and given a deadline of several hours ago to do so to avoid forceful removal. If they are still there in their makeshift city, then they want what is coming. And naturally tomorrow after the footage of them assaulting the police is spread around, they will claim it was all black bloc in the encampment anyway like they are trying at Columbia.
Schools that did normal peaceful protests all are getting meetings to discuss divestment. They did it without attacking Jewish students, making their country on the campus groups or smashing up building. Only these cases were the students got entirely violent will they lose out in the end.

For comparison, here is Brown at the end of their protest. Happy and pulled their tents within days. Since they did not get violent and make a crazy list of demands or try to make a walled city on the quad, they will get a meeting to talk divestment. This was the case in almost all of these protests.

What you are saying is false and is open Zionist propaganda. We have video footage of Zionist counter-protestors going to these protests and trying to instigate violence, trying to infiltrate and frame the protestors as antisemetic. That literally happened. The thing that got everybody to freak out, the idea that people at these protests were chanting "death to Jews", that was pro-Israel counter-protestors chanting it and saying "That's what you're all saying, right? That's what you want!" They were booed and told to leave. That's why they don't let random people join the protest and that's why they talk to media as little as possible, to prevent the protests from being infiltrated by bad actors or having their words and actions be manipulated by the media, who have been all too happy since October to call anyone who protests the genocide of the Palestinian people antisemetic terrorists. We've seen footage of students and professors being violently tackled, pepper sprayed, beaten, and otherwise assaulted by the fascist fucking pigs of the NYPD and other police departments. We've seen journalists arrested and assaulted. It's happening in front of your fucking eyes. This is absurd.

These are west coast leaderless protests, the protest is anyone who says they are part of it. You cannot do a protest like that then claim oh everyone who looks bad is really zionist propaganda plants that the Jewish controlled media is using to paint a false narrative. Since the invasion we seen a dangerous rise in hate crimes related to Jews, this shit is no different. Rather than owning up to assholes in the protest they spin it all as conspiracy though.
And yeah the cops will go psychotic on people, and as I said above, it will result in very costly lawsuits. But you cannot ignore the fact that Jewish students are scared to be on campus because of hate crimes committed against them on campuses. A lot of the actions by protesters will be codified into law as hate speech later this week.
Meanwhile, this is all doing jack shit to stop Israel itself. US colleges have minimal investment in Israel as it is. 32 million a year is the estimate for all college in the US. The US government gives them several times annually. And these protests will not change Netanyahu mind at all. Frankly, all they will do is increase the likelihood Trump wins and gives him a greenline to move to the West Strip. But they claim no responsibility for the negative impact of their actions.

Great irony of tonight will be if the kids really wanted, they could hold the encampment. While only 300 or so inside looks like several thousands kids outside watching behind the police lines. They rush the cops, they could drive them out. Imagine nearly everyone from the dorms is there watching this as their entertainment for the night. Everything else is shut down so they do not have much else to do.

Encampment cleared. Relatively tame given it was west coast protesters at home vs LAPD. 200 or so arrested, but DA will drop the cases once UCLA decides what the charges are.
Biden condemned the encampment protests, which likely is the final nail for protesters in terms of sitting out of the election. Then already been claiming he is worse than Trump. Again, something tells me when Trump likely actually wins, they will be protesting the result of the election they did not vote in.

Yeah not sure how they think it all plays out if them staying home does cost Biden the election. One thing is for certain, they will not get to protest under Trump. He said he we should be using the army to stop these college protests. Then Trump gets four years to dictate foreign policy. Likely starts with aiding Israel in clearing Gaza stripe for Kushner's investment group so they can turn the shore into luxury resorts. I imagine also includes giving Israel four years to clear the West Bank as well. Well assuming the US still has elections. Republicans making it more and more clear that they soured on democracy and would prefer a dictator.
But Biden did not end the war, so clearly both sides here are even.
