Catholic chiming in here. We are also mass murder experts through two hundred years of crusades, and while GW got flack for waterboarding, we are pretty much its originators. Torture was legal in the Church until 1917 (Code of Canon Law). Throughout the era of witch hunts, one executioner in Silesia (modern day Poland) beat Hitler to the punch by a few centuries in roasting more than 2,000 of his victims in ovens ...
It's impossible that Scientology could be worse than Catholicism, in effect; so haters of Scientologists might as well hate all Catholics ... which, of course, would make them nothing more than bigots! 😎

Everyone is getting upset over a band they haven't listened to in 20 years, and haven't thought about in 10.

Everyone is getting upset over a band they haven't listened to in 20 years, and haven't thought about in 10. It's natural human behaviour. The same way that everyone is getting jizz-in-their-pants excited about Oasis, a band they haven't listened to in 20 years, and haven't thought about in 10. The reception to Linkin Park would be similar if their choice of lead singer wasn't such a goldmine of controversy.

I dont think I would have liked Linkin Park even if they came out 2-3 years earlier when I was in my Korn phase, something about the band I just never liked, unauthentic, commercial, made for radio, bubblegum ass metal made by spoiled rich kids acting like they got something to be “depressed” about. I was getting so far off into classic and death metal by October 2000 anything with turntables in it was the gayest shit on earth to me. Record label pumped some serious dollars into their initial push, I cant get down with any bands like that ever.

Record label pumped some serious dollars into their initial push, I cant get down with any bands like that ever. The first album was a monster, but as you've pointed out, there was a degree of commercialisation about Linkin Park, manufacturing almost. But I'd put that on the record label more than anything. From all reports, these guys were nice guys, so presenting them as angry wiggas in Adidas and DCs probably wasn't going to work. And it was product of the time and reflected the Nu Metal phenomenon of 1999-2001, I always thought Metereoa was the true Linkin Park, Linkin Park album.

It's impossible that Scientology could be worse than Catholicism, in effect; so haters of Scientologists might as well hate all Catholics ... which, of course, would make them nothing more than bigots! 😎 I think with Scientology, it's a lot to do with this being a "Celebrity elite" type of religion and where where if you go against them or try and leave, you will be ex-communicated and will have your career in grave danger due to this. It's why lots of people are afraid of speaking out. I don't think it's on the level of NXIVM which was caught having branded women with permanent marks to show allegiance to their leader and where their leader had multiple wives/sex slaves. But stalking any naysayer or anyone who leaves their inner circle in addition to (allegations) of grooming/molesting women & children is something that rightfully should be called out upon. I think all religion have their dark side and I think worshipping can be dangerous if gone to the extreme level of things but I don't think all scientologists are evil. I just think a lot are afraid of having their livelihoods destroyed and or putting their loved ones in danger for daring to speak out. Armstrong did put out a statement that she stands up for violence against women and pretty much disassociated with Danny Masterson entirely. But she didn't apologize or mention anything about Scientology.

Van Halen did alright with themselves when Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth. Faith No More only got better. AC/DC, arguably too. Sure they drew better after his death, but Bon Scott AC/DC still blows whatever that dude's name is (Brian Johnson?) out of the water. Mike Patton you're 100% right about, but FNM were barely even relevant before he joined up.

While most religions have systemic sexism built in at their very foundations, Scientology's abuses against women are particularly egregious, from forced abortions to rape cover-ups (way past just Danny Masterson) to sexualized labor. They have detention camps used to reform and torture anyone who goes against the teachings and haven't seen their 'leader's wife' in years. Everyone is getting upset over a band they haven't listened to in 20 years, and haven't thought about in 10. I still listen to them daily. It's the same songs on my playlist: Crawling, Numb, Papercut, Somewhere I Belong, With You, Burn It Down, Breaking the Habit, Bleed It Out, What I've Done, etc...

Second single "Heavy is the Crown" is a lot better, imo, and sounds more like classic LP. Armstrong's screaming sounds really good at 1:51, kind of reminiscent of Chester on "Given Up".

Yeah I liked it a lot better, at least initially. Emptiness Machine didn't really get over with me but parts of it wormed their way thanks to radio play. It's not instant change but it's also not ass planter either. Heavy replayed in Youtube immediately after and I didn't fight it. Might actually listen to the whole thing when I usually stick to just the hits.

Track is just too short to really get into it for me. Song has similar structure to Faint but I do like this much better than the 1st single. Much more upbeat/tempo. The transitions between rap and chorus are the weakest part for me but otherwise it's solid.
EDIT: My ears be working! Yeah people caught on the similarity between the 2 tracks already.
