It is one of the greatest rivalries in NFL history. A rivalry that dates back to the year 1950. Although they have been facing off for decades, the rivalry really picked up steam in the mid 90s as the teams faced each other in the playoffs for 4 straight years. A 4 year stretch which saw the Packers, led by Bret Favre, win 3 straight against them to lead the Packers to 2 Super Bowls and 1 Super Bowl win. However, it was the 4th playoff match up where the Steve Young and the 49ers were finally able to defeat Bret Favre in what would be the only loss Favre ever suffered to the 49ers. The game was memorable and magical, because of the teary eyed, legend in the making game winning TD by Terrell Owens that would be called "THE CATCH II". Bret Favre would get the final laugh in the 2001 playoffs and would wrap up his career in this rivalry with a dominant 11-1 record. The rivalry would unintentionally continue on a 2005 NFL Draft night. The 49ers, with the top pick in the NFL draft, would pass on taking the hometown boy and draft Alex Smith. That man would go on to be drafted by the Green Bay Packers, back up Bret Favre for a few years and go on to become a Green Bay legend. THE Aaron Rodgers. A man who made it his mission to make the Packers pay for passing up on him in the NFL draft. The rivalry would continue through his rage and although Rodgers would only go 6-7 against the 49ers throughout his Packers career, it was his 0-4 record in the postseason against them that would haunt him forever. Since the 49ers passed on Rodgers and he fell to the Packers, Green Bay would go on to reach 1 Super Bowl and win it. On the other side, the 49ers would reach 3 Super Bowls since and lose all 3. With Aaron Rodgers leaving the Packers and becoming Blindy worst nightmare, it seemed the rivalry might be taking a break. Until last year when the Green Bay Packers would go on to become the first #7 seed to beat a #2 seed in the newly formed playoff format. That would set up another show down between the Packers and the 49ers in the postseason and like recent history, this too, would end in a 49ers victory. The 49ers would go on to make it to the Super Bowl and lose, but the "rebuild" for the Packers was immediately jump started with the emergency of Jordan Love. Now the rivalry continues and it continues with a show down in Lambeau Field this week. The 49ers are coming off of a tough loss and dealing with injuries all over their roster and they head into this match up with a 5-5 record in a surprisingly highly contested NFC West division. The Green Bay Packers are coming in after another "ha ha" addition their Chicago Bears rivalry with a blocked FG sealing the win. They come into this looking like a serious playoff contender with a 7-3 record. From Steve Young vs Bret Favre, to Aaron Rodgers vs Smith/Kaepernick, we are graced with another chapter of Purdy vs Love. Another chapter of UT vs pduh. The Packers lead the all time series 38-34-1, with the 49ers leading 6-4 in the playoffs. A rivalry as old as time continues in this weeks GAME OF THE WEEK!

QUICK PREDICTIONS: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALLPittsburgh Steelers def. Cleveland Browns 21-7- Russell Wilson continues to remain undefeated as a starter for the Steelers as they have their way with the floundering Browns in what could be a bad weather game which could star Watt and Garrett. My only worry is that the Browns move on from Winston and ruin the shockingly fun offense this has become under him, compared to Watson. Tampa Bay Buccaneers def. New York Giants 27-17- It's Mayfield vs Cutlets. Give me Mayfield all day every day. Remember this stupid article on him? Good riddance to Deadspin. deadspin.com/baker-mayfield-nfl-buccaneers-heisman-white-qbs-trask-1850766537/Dallas Cowboys def. Washington Commanders 23-20- Oh yeah! I'm calling it! The Cowboys pull off a major division upset on a Brandon Aubrey GW FG as time expires. Washington loses their 3rd straight game and Mike McCarthy gets the Cowboys further from the Ashton Jeanty draft pick. Jerry Jones takes it, because rivalry~! Chicago Bears def. Minnesota Vikings 24-21
- I don't know why I keep doing it, but I keep betting against the Vikings. I'm just waiting for Darnolds slipper to fall off, but maybe it never does ala Mayfield last season. That's right, though. I'm taking back to back upsets. Bears bounce back after a heartbreaker as Caleb goes off for 3 passing TDs. 1 to each DJ, Allen and Odunze. Miami Dolphins def. New England Patriots 35-14- I'm going to keep calling the Dolphins offensive resurgence until I get it right! That's why it happens this week! Houston Texans def. Tennessee Titans 23-13
- The Texans continue to look mid, but mid enough to beat another crappy team. I thought Tennessee could pull it off last week, but eff them. Houston inches closer to winning the division after this week. Detroit Lions def. Indianapolis Colts 42-21- The Detroit Lions are the "Greatest Show" in the NFL and they continue their offensive dominance with another Jared Goff masterpiece. Kansas City Chiefs def. Carolina Panthers 35-7- An absolute thrashing! Mahomes lets out all his Josh Allen frustrations and throws for 4 TDs. Go scorched earth on'em! Denver Broncos def. Las Vegas Raiders 31-14
- Brock Bowers continues to dominate the position, but in the end, the lowkey ROTY Bo Nix is too much and the defense handles their business. Seattle Seahawks def. Arizona Cardinals 38-34- Give us a shoot out! Seattle capitalizes on their 49ers win momentum by pulling off another big division win. Geno runs wild, Murray runs wild, everyone runs wild! San Francisco 49ers def. Green Bay Packers 24-23- This one feels like a toss up, but I just can't see the 49ers falling to 5-6. Purdy goes 2-0 against Love in the game of the week. SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Los Angeles Rams def. Philadelphia Eagles 33-27 in OT- We deserve another action packed Primetime game and with these two offenses squaring up, I can feel it coming! I'm going with the team with the home field advantage and better Head Coach here. The NFC West remains crowded after this week and the Eagles leave without touching the ball in overtime. MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL BROTHER vs BROTHERBaltimore Ravens def. Los Angeles Chargers 20-16- I can see this being a defensive battle where Lamar continues his recent spurt of struggle, but in the end, I feel they are the better team. We see Daddy Harbaugh break Taylor Swifts non player screen time record in this game, too, because Thanksgiving is coming.

Blindy I know you spoke about it in the last thread, but I feel this is a huge topic going into this week. With the Jets on BYE, I wonder if Aaron Rodgers comes out of the BYE week as the starter or not. Do they, shockingly, make a QB change that results in Rodgers just completely no-showing the team facilities? What happens to Davante then? Jets drama is never good drama. What a shame. The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini report Jets owner Woody Johnson took increased control over the team this season.Rosenblatt and Russini report now-fired general manager Joe Douglas “had already lost some power midway through last season when Johnson took a more active role”. After a Week 4 loss to the Broncos, Johnson “suggested to coaches that they bench Aaron Rodgers”. A week later, he made the decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh “without consulting his general manager”. Johnson also made decisions on player signings and front office firings over the offseason, decreasing Douglas’ power as general manager and pressuring certain decisions, like nixing a trade for Jerry Jeudy and a contract extension for Bryce Hall. Douglas has now been fired as the Jets will hit reset in the offseason. Johnson returned to run the Jets in 2021, after serving as the United States’ Ambassador to the United Kingdom - his brother ran the team when the Jets hired Douglas in 2019.

The best thing about Trump becoming POTUS 47 is Woody is going to be his UK Ambassador for 4 more years and we can get a new GM/HC duo working without massive interference. Woody's brother, Chris has his work cut out for him. So many candidates are going to raise this concern up and if this isn't answered properly, it's going to make NYJ not get the best candidates. pwcom.proboards.com/post/382572/quote/7049?page=5

Blindy should speak in schools about the dangers of becoming a Jets fan, I’ve had more warnings for that than smoking crack in my life. Curious to see if the Giants suck slightly less with a different QB.

Curious to see if the Giants suck slightly less with a different QB. I laughed. I do it because I care! You're a new fan to the game, last thing you want is to have to sit through misery game after game! Believe me, the me of 15 years ago was on a high with some good seasons of 04, 06, 09 and 10. Playoffs, big wins etc. It was otherworldly. Now? This is even worse than the 00 and 10(Minus 1 year) Knicks.

If you don't want to feel passionate to run through brick walls after hearing this, you don't belong on a football field.
I would be down for Rex pt 2. One of the most passionate, most defensive sounded coaches I have ever seen go to work. "You take one of our guys, we'll take two of yours" and "I didn't come here to kiss Bill Belichick's rings" was pure badass. Also inviting a hot Brazilian reporter to come to view and conduct business at a Jets training camp. Guy is a pure gangsta.

I absolutely hate pulling Russ for what could have been the game sealing 3rd down, especially for a pass play. That was definitely intentional grounding too, but on to next week.

Really crazy to go from beating the Ravens one week to losing to the Browns 4 days later. What a way to fumble the North away. There's no way they hold it with another game against the Ravens coming IN Baltimore.

Sweet writeup KING KID. Got me thinking about 49ers vs Packers history, I never really thought about that series outside of the 90's playoff games. Thinking about it now without pulling out a Record & Fact Book the 49ers entered the NFL from the AAFC in 1950 and were pretty good through the decade, while Green Bay was going through a down period that decade after the decline and departure of Curly Lambeau. I believe off the top of my head that 49ers vs Lions was the big rivalry of the 1950's. I think by the time Lombardi came along and took the Packers to the top in the 60's the 49ers glory halcyon days of the 50's were over. San Fran got good again in the early 70's with John Brodie(MVP QB) but by that time Green Bay was on the decline again after Lombardi left. I can't think of 49ers vs Packers being a thing in the 80's either. I would say the biggest and most stand out game of 49ers vs Packers first 40 years of history would be the 1989 game. The 1989 49ers are arguably the best team in NFL history, 14-2 destroyed everyone in the playoffs and won the Super Bowl 55-10 over the Broncos, peak Montana/Rice dominance like a Jordan Bulls or Mike Tyson type aura in the NFL at that point. Green Bay that year was actually really good, pass rusher Tim Harris was a fucking monster and they had Don Majkowski having one of the best one hit wonder seasons ever as a QB, he had something like 6 or 7 game winning drives/4th quarter comebacks. Majkowski's Packers was one of the 2 teams that beat San Fran that year in a heated game that felt like a playoff game. Majkowski had MVP type of season Green Bay went 10-6 their best season since 1972 but only 5 playoff teams per conference in 1989 so they missed the playoffs entirely(there was only 1 Wild Card game per conference they added another the next year). Of course Majkowski starts dealing with injuries and declines and never has another season like 1989, goes down with another injury in 1992 and backup Brett Favre comes in the rest is history. Then you get to the peak of the 49ers vs Packers rivalry. Green Bay couldn't get past Dallas in 93 or 94 playoffs. San Fran won the Super Bowl in 94 so for the young Packers to knock them off in 1995 playoffs was fucking huge when you really think about it. What a big step up for that Green Bay team ready to take the next level. And what a loss for San Fran at the time too, with pressure on Seifert to repeat in 95 with a stacked roster, only for them to be one and done.

Aaron Rodgers is a sex text away from mirroring Brett Favre's 1 year tenure as a Jet. Between maybe only lasting 1 year to refusing to take himself out due to injury(He doesn't want any scans for fear of maybe losing his job) to putting on downward trending performances(Favre had a day vs Arizona though). Favre at least had the Jets in the playoff hunt till December, Rodgers hasn't been able to do that.
I don't blame it all on Rodgers though but it seems shitty to maybe want to bolt after a season given Adams wanted to come here, Hackett was kept over being fired etc. I do think if the Jets wanted to win games, Tyrod Taylor gives them a better chance due to sheer mobility and health alone.

Giants look atrocious off the BYE. They did Daniel Jones a solid getting him off this squad.
One of those cases of "Misery loves company" with us Jets fans and the Giant fans. Giants need a way to win like 2-3 more games, big time game vs Dallas this Thursday. Jets if they want a QB have to get ahead of NYG.
