Well Best Of The Best III pay per view is done and posted: pwcom.proboards.com/post/335204/threadHonestly it is a pretty big mess, I wrote it mostly all in 2 sittings and didn't get a chance to proof read it before posting. This show had the potential to be a fed killer, I've honestly changed plans so much in my fed it's ridiculous. The whole Kings of Kings storyline came about in my head after the project was already up and running, so tried to make changes to ease into it, only to get cold feet the closer I got to the show(realizing none of this would work in the USA), almost pulled the plug on the whole storyline by changing the finish to the main event, then backpedaled and went with the planned finish anyway. Suzuki turns on Team Inoki to join the KOK. Serious issue with this fed is all of my ideas changing from week to week, coming up with ideas, starting to build them, then changing my mind and dropping them/radically changing them lol. I would chalk this up as a bad show no way around it. And I'm going to take the It's Pat stance and say thats..... ok, I have to allow myself to write a bad show every once in a while. The show was really just a bad idea to begin with, Tokyo Dome in Japan and the 6 week build. This was a position with this fed where it would have been easy to throw in the towel but I got through this PPV and there are a few storylines that I'm stoked about that have kept me inspired to keep this bad boy going. I think realistically the goal for it is to make it to the 4th PPV by the end of this year 2023

Breaking News April 3rd 1996 Kathy Long Signs Best Of The Best ContractRumors were confirmed late Wednesday night that the greatest female kickboxer of all time Kathy Long has inked a contract with Best Of The Best. Several sources point to major plans within the company for Long to be heavily featured on the upcoming Best Of The Best V: A Matter Of Respect '96 pay per view event scheduled for May 21st in the Miami Arena in Florida. The news comes just 3 weeks after the start of BOTB's new partnership with All Japan Womens Pro Wrestling that included the acclaimed Toshiyo Yamada vs Etsuko Mita battle that was featured at the Bushido at the Budokan event(the match was aired on BOTB Bushido on March 14th). Speculation has grown that Long will be prominently featured on the hybrid wrestling style martial arts/Japanese themed Bushido program that airs on TBS on Thursday nights, with a possible build up to a hybrid rules wrestler vs kickboxer showdown against somebody from All Japan Womens Wrestling at the pay per view. Kathy Long is a multiple black belt martial artist that dominated women's kickboxing, retiring with an 18-1 record in 1992 after having dispatched every major international champion in her sport. Chuck Norris himself was once quoted saying that he believed Kathy was the greatest female fighter he's ever seen. Long went on to star in several films after her retirement, even playing Michelle Phifer's stunt double as Catwoman in Batman Returns. Now Kathy Long will come out of retirement to enter the world of Best Of The Best in this new groundbreaking signing.

^A lovely rabbit hole that my fan fiction sent me down. If not for this fed I never would have dug into the awesomeness of Kathy Long, what a fucking force of nature she was a waaaaaay ahead of her time. I only knew of her because she did guest commentary at UFC 1 thirty years ago.
We are quickly approaching the infamous April 15th 1996 date in my fed, the night Brian Pillman wrecked his hummer and more or less crippled himself. In this alternate timeline I really have no idea how to handle this. That was a Monday night in 1996 and Pillman was still just working ECW shows at the time, which is crazy that he was out running the roads on a Monday night in 1996 instead of being on TNT or USA network. Now that he's on a live show on that night(in a completely different city from where the wreck really happened) does that wreck still happen? The Time Machine book by HG Wells I always loved that element where he keeps going back to try to save his girl but no matter what he does she keeps dying in other ways, it was just fate no matter how he changed events he couldn't change her fate.
At this point I'm willing to admit that I'm booking my fed by the seat of my pants. Every other fan fiction I've done was meticulously planned out for years at a time, with this one we've reached the point where I'm booking on the fly on a show to show basis. Shit is a mess but the fact that it just keeps going and dealing with the corners it's booked itself into gives it a certain vibe I am starting to like. I'm just figuring how the characters would react to the shit that happens to them in real time, with only a basic idea of where I want these characters to go. Very interesting.

I have Survivor Series build and show written. Just need to make a poster for it. Hopefully, I can get that done and get it all posted by the end of the weekend. I got a super busy week and next weekend at work but everything is kind of downhill from there for the rest of the year. I'm trying to decide if I want/need a Saturday Night's Main Event between Survivor Series and Royal Rumble. I do, right?

Monday's Judgement Night was balls to the wall, with the debuts of Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, Bryan Clark/Adam Bomb, motherfuckers calling out Hulk Hogan and debut of Uber-Shamrock '96 as the newest member of the Dangerous Alliance '96. I only gave myself 3 weeks in between PPVs so wanted to have fun with fast pace booking. A War Games match with 1 week of build and free on cable lets go. This Saturday night 6:05 pm on TBS: The Superstation! Bryan Clark's name isn't going to be Wrath, at least not yet. I couldn't decide out of the 2-3 names I had for him which one to use so decided to have some fun with it. You get a free pass to fuck off basically when you re/book 1996 Stevie Richards, possibilities are endless, let your imagination go.

There are some rumors and rumblings coming out of Titan Towers that the next Saturday Night's Main Event will be in December. There's some talk about running a tournament to help spotlight a new wrestler who has signed with the company. The tournament will be themed to put over his gimmick. I'll post more when I get something concrete.

As the year wraps up, I thought I'd do a story so far. It's a five-ten minute read to kind of let you know what happened from Summer Slam (August) to King of the Ring (December). It really just runs through all of my storylines and where everything is. I'm considering moving to a weekly format now that Monday Night Raw is about to start and recap anything that needs to be said about Superstars. I feel like this breezy way of storytelling is leaving some details on the table that I'd rather not miss. I originally wrote this all as a podcast but just don't have the time to tell it that way. Maybe in the summer? Until then, anyone have any thoughts? Keep the current format or start giving more detailed weekly results?

Dudes. I haven't written this much wrestling since.. IDK... 2005? I'm having a blast. I posted my second episode of Raw and it's easily my favorite thing I've ever written. The stories are starting to come together. I'm still not happy with 2-3 of my characters and it's basically that they're on autopilot until their real story starts. Having to make someone compelling when I know their best story is still to come is hard. I thought I'd try to catch some of you who only read this thread and not mine and tell some ways that my story differed from WWF 1993 to get some interest. - Jarrett and Lawler both debut in December. Lawler is Lawler. Jarrett is a face being managed by his dad who is very much a heel. Jarrett won the King of the Ring, much to the bitterness of Lawler.
- Ric Flair turned face at Survivor Series when Dibiase/IRS turned on Hennig for costing their team and Flair made the save.
- Genechiro Tenryu who did some WWF stuff around this time is my #1 contender as Flair's former hired gun now working for Heenan who is bitter at Flair for his "change of heart."
- Michaels took the IC title off Davey Boy and got attacked/had his foot broken. Davey got suspended for 5 months. Shawn sued WWF and had a settlement that made it so he only wrestles once a month, and wrestles with a metal boot to protect his foot.
- Texas Tornado turned some heads on the first episode of Raw when he defeated Michaels for the IC title. Now Shawn wants a rematch but has to fight Kerry with Davey Boy as special referee.
- Hogan and Yokozuna are a tag team called Global Powers.
- Bob Backlund is an environmental nut who recruited Earthquake and Typhoon to be his Global Warming enforcers.
- Matt Borne is "Mr. Wrestling" (not Doink.. seriously, how do I top Doink) a dry, "boy scout" good guy who actually isn't very good at wrestling. However, he has this thing where he learns from his mistakes and gets better. He never loses to the same guy twice.
- Papa Shango has a thing for relics. He's stolen things like Tatanka's feather, Warlord's "W" staff, Hercules' chain, etc.. he says he's learned some new power in France that he's ready to wield on the WWF.
- Lex Luger is "the Total Package" (not the Narcissist) a pretty straightforward babyface so far. He came in as a threat to Ric Flair because of their history but Flair turned face on the same night.
- A new stable has debut "The Syndicate." They are a crime family. We know about Louie Spicolli (Silent Lou), Pretty Boy Chris Candido, and Rocco Rock (Rocco) but they reference a guy named THE BOSS. His debut is at the Royal Rumble.
- Some guy named The Ripper keeps abducting wrestlers after they lose matches. They turn up days later, injured. No one knows who he is or what he's doing.

I’m hooked, you had me at Under Siege that was a great hook to get me interested. Jealous that I didn’t think of that for a PPV name first, but I do have Out For Justice copywritten for use in fan fic wrestling so if you use that expect the c&d 😂
Brief recaps are something I been wanting to switch to but man so many ideas get fleshed out when you go deep into each show, some of my best ideas wouldn’t have come to me if I were breezing through with quick recaps meant for fast reading/writing
.
I’m loving it though, may be my favorite fed this year🤙 A lot of brilliant ideas and plots that got me intrigued to see where they go, The Syndicate and The Ripper, a full blown Lawler vs Jarrett feud for the Baker dimes, beautiful wrestling fan fic all the way around. Super impressive.

Thanks Neo Zeed, glad I got a reader! As for Under Siege, I really wanted to do a Gauntlet Match but I couldn't find evidence that the match existed yet. SO I felt like it would be cheating to use it as is. I felt like the least I could do is change the name. I had already decided on the sub-name for SNME to be Under Siege because the Steven Seagal film had just released and thought that would be a good cross promotion. It sounded like a great name for a match. It's really the same issue I ran into with the Championship Scramble match.. which is my all-time favorite match. I settled on Breakout Brawl and made it exclusive for new Superstars / guys who never held the strap to earn a title shot. The title isn't on the line, but a shot at the title is. I think you guys are going to love the Ripper storyline. Hope I can pull it off. Syndicate too. I've been working these stories for many years. The Syndicate was originally the Family. Then NXT took it. I'm a little bitter about that.

If what I'm hearing is true, the next Saturday Night's Main Event is taking place in February. In conjunction with the new Sega and NES game, the event is tentatively being called "Steel Cage Challenge." I can't confirm this yet, but I'm thinking every match is in a steel cage. Acclaim is sponsoring the event to help sell the new video game around WrestleMania season.

^The Sega CD game is cool 😎 I believe it had the real wrestler entrance music like actual CD music not chip tunes, would have been bad ass back when it came out because you can listen to the soundtracks of the Sega CD games in any CD player.
Best Of The Best is hotting up as the weather begins to warm up in April 1996. The main goal that the Championship council set out to accomplish at the start of the year was to have 1 true international Undisputed World Champion. Through a series of events the belt that ended up symbolizing this title ended up being the WCW World title currently being held by HBK.
But we’ve fallen farther from the concept of 1 true world champ. Bret Hart has put all of his family property up as collateral and 1$ million bond of his own money to have a new WWF style World title belt made. Bret now with this belt recognizes himself as the true Champ since he technically never lost the title(the original was destroyed by Pillman in January).
But it gets worse. Over in Japan Nobuhiko Takada’s Kings Of Kings organization has captured all the major Japanese titles, along with recapturing Lou Thesz’s original old belt(which was recently revealed to have been made out of bronze and gold and other metals from the crowns of Kings from ancient Babylon as well as the melted material from the Spear of Destiny). The KoK recently melted all of the titles down to forge a new title in their foundries; The Neo Hybrid Universal World Championship.
In the end…..

Breaking News

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is facing major political opposition that is looking to ban the sport in the city of Detroit in hopes of shutting down their upcoming UFC IX: Motor City Madness pay per view event set for May 17th. The UFC is in critical danger of being outlawed on pay per view by all of their major carriers. Rumors have began to surface that the Neo Zeed has funded senator John McCain’s recent push to outlaw the sport since SEG(the parent company of UFC) has turned down numerous offer to buy the company. The Zeed were served this week in a lawsuit filed by SEG suing them for their use of UFC Champion Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn on their programming in their Best Of The Best pro wrestling television. Shamrock is set to defend his title in a rematch against Severn at the UFC Detroit PPV next month.

In the never ending battle for ratings we've seen some stiff competition in fan fic this month. In order to keep our spot as the #1 top rated fan fiction on PW we're being pushed to bring out the big guns.... Hulk FU**#*# HOGAN is coming to Judgement Night LIVE tonight 8pm on the USA Network. The Target Center in Minneapolis immediately sold out when the news broke. Ahmed Johnson hot off of the heels of his win over The Ultimate Warrior at the Tokyo Dome called out Hulk in a recent sit down interview with Jim Ross. This past Saturday night on Shockwave Ahmed called him out again, citing him as his all time hero and his greatest inspiration to his career, Ahmed feels that Hulk is the ultimate match for him and the ultimate challenge to test himself. CEO Eric Bischoff rushed out to the ring to inform Ahmed that he has found Hulk Hogan and that he will be at Judgement Night in Minneapolis. It was Eric Bischoff that made the deal to bring Hulk to WCW in 1994. With Eric's job as CEO on the hot seat, this move to bring Hogan back could be a desperate attempt to save his job. We haven't heard from The Hulkster since the controversial way he lost the WCW Championship last October. If you have been paying attention to the AOL groups the rumors are going nuts, some believe Hulk will announce his retirement on Monday night, others believe he will make his comeback to accept Ahmed's challenge for a match at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis on the April 22nd Judgement Night next week. It's all heating up as we are just 6 days away from Best Of The Best IV: Chi-Town Wrestlewar '96 on pay per view.

BRAVE NEW WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION The Story So Far | February 1993 If you haven't been keeping up, or if you don't have cable and have been trying to watch your pay-per-views through a static TV , here is your quarterly update on what's happening in the WWF. Ric Flair is the WWF Champion and turned face at Survivor Series when Dibiase/Irwin attacked his friend, Curt Hennig. He has sort of been a man without a home with fights coming from both sides of the locker room with heels who have turned on him and faces who don’t quite trust him. Ted Dibiase won the #1 contendership at SNME and will go to WrestleMania to face the WWF Champion. He leads a stable called the Campaign (short for the Campaign to Elect Ted Dibiase). Ted’s running for President of the United States in 4 years. The Campaign is comprised of Bobby Heenan (Campaign Manager), Mr. Hughes (Head of Security), and Can-Am Corrections (Big Boss Man & the Mountie). Kerry Von Erich passed away this week under tragic circumstances. He is the reigning WWF Intercontinental Champion and the WWF hasn’t decided how to proceed with the title following his passing. The Steiner Bros. won the WWF Tag Team Titles at SNME in a tag team steel cage match and are looking at the landscape of the tag division ahead. Speaking of the tag division, Global Powers look to be on the outs following Yokozuna’s perceived betrayal of Hogan when he didn’t save his partner from Global Warming and Bob Backlund’s assault on Monday Night. CCTV footage revealed that Yokozuna was in-fact in the building and had entered Mr. Backlund’s dressing room earlier in the night.
Jeff Jarrett is the King of the Ring! This was solidified this past Monday night when Jerry Lawler crowned him personally. The coronation ceremony was Lawler’s good faith attempt to get Jarrett to put his crown on the line in a match to determine the one and only king of the World Wrestling Federation. Despite his word to not lay a finger on Jarrett, Lawler had his two new henchmen (Tom Prichard and Jimmy Del Ray) the Kingsmen attack Jarrett post ceremony. In other realms of the WWF, Shawn Michaels is seeing ghosts from his past. Or at least a ghost. In a Barbershop interview with Brutus Beefcake, the Heartbreak Kid swears he saw Marty Jannetty in the window. He later denounced it claiming exhaustion. Meanwhile, Davey Boy Smith has been absent from the WWF following his Intercontinental title loss a few weeks back. The British Bulldog is expected back this week. The Bulldog’s brother in-law, Bret Hart, was on the losing end of the #1 contender’s cage match against Dibiase at SNME. The Campaign gave Dibiase a lifeline when they handcuffed Hart to the cage, allowing the Million Dollar Man to escape. Following the match, Can-Am Corrections attempted to attack Bret, only to suffer an embarrassing retreat at the hands of Owen Hart who saved his brother. The Rocket and the Hitman stood tall at the end of the show, but what’s next for them and the Campaign?
Razor Ramon has picked a fight that he may regret. The Bad Guy claims he is on a hot streak and when you’re hot, you go for the biggest man in the yard. That man? The Undertaker. The Deadman says Razor isn’t on a hot streak, he’s been lucky and his luck is about to run out. In the third cage match at SNME, Bam Bam Bigelow defeated four superstars one after the other in the cage with the promise to pay $50,000 to anyone that can survive three minutes with him. Matt Borne got closest of the four but suffered his second loss in the same week to the Boss. Bigelow looked almost unstoppable until OJ Simpson answered the call for one more opponent. The Juice didn’t just survive the three minutes and take the $50,000 from Bigelow, but he narrowly escaped the Syndicate’s attack afterwards. In other mysterious action, Papa Shango has used the relics of WWF Superstars to create a new voodoo hex that he has placed on Tatanka and Kamala forcing them under his spell into his army, the Creatures of the Night. Shango has lately turned his attention to the mysterious Ripper to enlist him into his army. Shango attempted to put the Ripper under his spell only for it to fail. Now, Shango says that he knows the identity of the Ripper and will reveal it if he doesn’t join the Creatures of the Night. The final bit of news is that Curt Hennig has return to the WWF and brought with him Bryan Clark and Brian Adams. Their motives? Unsure. Their goals? Who knows. Their targets? Well, there is some more certainty in that department. Randy Savage and Lex Luger have both suffered at their hands. Luger was injured before the Royal Rumble and Randy Savage before his WWF Championship match. Now, Curt has somehow snuck his way into a WWF Championship match with Ric Flair, despite not having wrestled in the WWF since Survivor Series, except for his one off appearance at the Royal Rumble. How did he pull that off?
The last item to discuss is World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney. Many wrestlers have started to voice their lack of confidence in Tunney’s ability to run the WWF. Following Shawn Michaels’ injury after Summer Slam, the WWF came under fire for a potential lawsuit. The Board of Directors has put Tunney under pressure to save money which has caused a flurry of rumors and speculations. Over the past few months, Ted Dibiase has managed to work himself into a higher position within the company after a meeting with Tunney. And this past week, Curt Hennig talked his way into a WWF Championship without having wrestled anyone to earn it. There is a belief that the office of the President of the WWF is for sale and anyone with enough money or leverage can get what they want from Jack Tunney. Three wrestlers have commented about something fishy from the President’s office, but how far will Bret Hart, Randy Savage, and Lex Luger take their suspicions?

Best Of The Best IV drops on New Years Eve the fan fic event of the year that’s been building since January 1st.
Just now realizing the 2024 calendar lines up with 1996. I may pause this after the PPV and get a bunch of content stored, then pick this back up with the April 22nd Hogan vs Ahmed Hoosier Dome Judgement Night, then post in real time for 2024(would have to slim down shows to quicker style).

Wrestling Observer Newsletter April 1996
The 4th Best Of The Best pay per view turned out to be mostly flat, with the company and it's performers still reeling from the terrible tragic auto accident that took the life of one of their biggest stars Brian Pillman this past Monday night. The show ended up feeling a lot like just another episode of Judgement Night(without commercials) since it was produced by the same production crew, had the same opening with Sunny as the "host", and the same commentary team with JR and Joey Styles. It ended up being the company's 3rd disappointing pay per view event in a row since the Tokyo Dome show in March suffered from several issues, bad booking, matches that didn't deliver. The second pay per view in Caesars Palace back in February had a couple of the promotion's best PPV matches this year(Bret vs Benoit, Dragon vs Aerts) but the big hyped up main event between Evander Holyfield vs Aleksandre Karelin that the general public all paid for ended up ending just seconds into the match with an accidental cut on Karelin. So far the promotion has yet to deliver on pay per view after what was a solid debut in the Astrodome back in January.
With the addition of Shamrock/Severn to the card, the Greg Lloyd mainstream media coverage, and the return of Hulk Hogan this week(which drew the company's biggest TV rating so far with a 4.9) the event was able to sell out the UIC Pavilion in Chicago with 10,018 in attendance. This was the first pro wrestling event in the UIC Pavilion since WCW stopped using it back three years ago(1993). The crowd was hot for the big moments of the show but overall the whole show felt flat, without any of the better workers on the undercard the in-ring action just didn't deliver. When Brian Pillman passed away earlier in the week it really killed whatever momentum was built off of that episode of Judgement Night just hours before the accident. So the company went from an all time high with the record TV ratings followed immediately by an all time low with the death of Brian Pillman just days before the pay per view in Chicago.
As far as the build up to the PPV the TV episodes of Bushido and Worldwide were taped prior to the Pillman accident but the key episode of Shockwave that the promotion needed to finish the build up to the PPV really suffered from Pillman's death since it was filmed less than 24 hours after the accident. The entire roster was shaken and mourning Pillman's death were given the option to work the Tuesday night taping, those who did step in to work were visibly still effected and just trying to make it through the show. Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan were the big names that opted not to appear at the taping. Michaels was booked in some type of angle with the Dangerous Alliance while Hogan's planned segment with Ahmed Johnson was axed from the show at the last minute(both were still paid their contracted appearance fee's).
Steve Austin was among those that opted to work the show and appeared during the 10 bell salute but didn't work the show since the company opted not to book the Dangerous Alliance in the wake of the accident. Another angle with Shane Douglas and Marc Mero was also axed last minute apparently since the promotion just felt like trying to get heat on Pillman's stablemates hours after his death was just in bad taste.
The pay per view kicked off with Cactus Jack coming out after the intro. Jack was scheduled to face Pillman in a Last Man Standing Match that was reportedly supposed to see Pillman going over and starting a big push towards a main event program with Michaels for the title this Summer. Instead we got a cluster of a segment with him getting confronted by Raven, Stevie Richards, and "Venom"(Bryan Clark, aka Adam Bomb). Cactus refused to rejoin Raven's flock and was attacked, only to be saved by Kevin Sullivan with Meng and Abdullah The Butcher in what was a pretty awkwardly executed segment overall. Abdullah did a nasty blade job and bled all over the ring steps, which apparently got him into hot water with the promotion since it was not booked. This appears to be the start of some type of angle where Raven and Kevin Sullivan fight to pull Cactus to their side with him caught in the middle.
They did a backstage interview with Sunny interviewing kickboxing legend Kathy Long, who has signed on to make her debut at the May PPV against one of the Joshis from All Japan Womens Pro Wrestling, possibly Etsuko Mita(who defeated Toshiyo Yamada in the promotion's first ever women's match back at the Bushido event held at the Budokan arena last month.
Olympic Gold Medalist Kevin Jackson defeated NJPW star Koji Kanemoto in the opening match with a pinfall after a release German suplex off the turnbuckles after 10:49. Jackson has improved in the ring but Kanemoto carried him to what was probably the best match of the night. ***
We got a sappy black and white highlight montage to hype up Hulk Hogan's debut vs Ahmed Johnson in the Hoosier Dome the following night on Judgement Night. They used Sadeness by Enigma from the Pure Moods soundtrack. All reports are that they have sold over 50,000 tickets for the 65,000 seat Hoosier Dome and are planning to paper the hell out of the show the day of the event to fill up the massive dome for TV. This match just lacked the big angle and was put together way too short notice for this to be a true sellout.
The strap killed the Shane Douglas vs Marc Mero match, everything about it just fell flat and killed the crowd. Douglas got the win after 11 minutes. Douglas is set to be one of the top heels for the promotion with Sable as his valet but the status of the entire Dangerous Alliance is up in the air after the death of Pillman. **
The next segment seen Hawk and Animal brought out by Kimona wearing their original all black gear and shoulder pads with the matching black facepaint, also coming out to Iron Man by Black Sabbath(their original entrance music in the 80's when they were the Road Warriors). They destroyed the Public Enemy in a quick squash to bring their World Tag League record to 4-5-1, which still keeps them in the running to make the final four tournament at the May pay per view in Florida. The crowd popped the loudest of the night for this angle but it was a mess in the ring while it lasted. Public Enemy at one point where thought to be gone after the end of the World Tag League but sources have reported the company has turned around on them and could keep them around in some capacity through the rest of the Spring/Summer. N/A Squash
After revving the crowd up and bringing them back to life they killed them again with another bad segment with Bret Hart confronting the Championship Council in the angle to set up the Takada main event for the next PPV. Bret is losing the crowd in the aftermath of the loss at the Iron Man match with him actually getting some boo's here during this segment. It looks like the match against Takada will be built as a Champion vs Champion type build with Bret attempting to validate his WWF title belt as the real world title, while Takada will seek to add another title belt to their Neo Hybrid Championship. We could see a de-emphasis of the Dangerous Alliance going forward in the wake of Pillman's death with a shift towards the shoot style invasion of the Kings Of Kings(something the company backed off of following the flop of the last PPV).
Taz defeated Greg Lloyd via technical submission in the 3rd round of their hybrid rules bout after going over 18 minutes. This match was an interesting spectacle that had the crowd going early on since Greg Lloyd came out in full Tae Kwon Do gi. The high spot of the match came early on in the moment Lloyd removed his gi top in the middle of the bout to keep Taz from throwing him with Judo throws, it was a great moment that felt like a scene out of a kung fu film. The rest of the bout just fell apart the deeper it went into the 10 minute first round. The promotion really wanted this to be a longer bout to make up for the Karelin/Holyfield debacle but it suffered as a result, since Taz is better off working short squash matches. They really just let Lloyd cut loose with a Tae Kwon Do showcase since he dominated most of the match, only to get caught in the end and refusing to tap out to the choke. The problem was that a lot of Lloyd's offense, the advance spinning kicks, mostly fell short or barely hit Taz, making it awkward for him to sell, giving the whole thing an odd feel as it went on. There were also several botches and mis-timed missteps throughout the match. The crowd eventually seemed to have lost interest after the big moments early on and this just dragged on for way too long. They did put a major spotlight on Taz, who entering the promotion in January this year as a totally unknown. *1/2
Steve Austin & Ken Shamrock defeated Ric Flair & Dan Severn after Austin pinned Flair following a ridiculously stiff chair shot from Shane Douglas while the ref was distracted with Shamrock & Severn fighting outside the ring. This whole match seemed like a vehicle to establish Austin as a major threat going forward, pairing him with Ken Shamrock who may legitimately be one of the most dangerous men on the planet, scoring the big pin over Flair to win the bout. The match had it's moments but just wasn't given enough time and had too much going on with the finish. The aftermath seen Shamrock snap and turn on Paul E. with him and Austin almost going at it but the crowd was dead for all of it. **1/2
Shawn Michaels defeated Randy Savage via pinfall at 16:18 to retain the Undisputed World title(the WCW big gold belt) in a match that really never got going until the big convoluted finish that capped with the debuts of Razor and Diesel to end the show. This match really failed to live up to expectations for whatever reasons, possibly age catching up to Savage or maybe these two just were never meant to have a good match(their matches in 92-93 in WWF were also disappointing). Austin and Shane Douglas came out to try to help Savage win the title, they did multiple ref bumps, 123 Kid and Hunter Hearst Helmsley came out to help Michaels but were beat up by Savage. Diesel and Razor came out to help Michaels fight off the Dangerous Alliance and win the match. The crowd pop was unreal since both Diesel and Razor walked in through the upper deck of the UIC Pavilion and walked all the way through the crowd in street clothes to make their debuts. The show closed with the full Kliq all reunited together. **1/2

Best Of The Best 96 will return on April 22nd on a Monday night with Judgement Night, going to try to get it going with a new streamlined trimmed down format to try to post in real time, Judgement Night on Mondays, Bushido on Thursdays, Shockwave on Saturdays, Worldwide on Saturdays sometimes Sundays. The 2024 calendar lines up with 1996 calendar so should be cool. I've been working on plans and have things ironed out for the next few pay per views, A Matter Of Respect '96 in May, Undisputed Attitude '96 in June, then the big one in Madison Square Garden July 14th it will be Best Of The Best VII: Out For Justice '96!
Until April 22nd I am working on a quick results recap in the original post of the thread. I am almost done with January 96 I will post a link soon as that is complete!
It's interesting to see how the fed got started again. I really wanted to put an emphasis on this universe really picking up where the sport of pro wrestling left off in the end of 1995, I feel like the fed succeeded in that blending those November-December 95 vibes into the first few weeks of shows.

Breaking news on AOL chat groups April 1996:
Best Of The Best announces huge mega-event set for Tokyo National Stadium. The event has been set for August 4th 1996(the final day of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA) and will see the company pull out all stops in an attempt to draw a crowd of over 100,000. The company is expected to spend upwards of $6 to $7 million to put together the ultimate 10 match dream card with talent from every major promotion in Japan. The event has been rumored to have a tentative title of Best Of The Best VIII: Enter The Dragon. Plans that have been leaked included rumored final retirement match of Antonio Inoki taking on his all time rival Akira Maeda or Nobuhiko Takada from the Kings Of Kings group, as well as a 3rd bout between Ultimo Dragon vs K-1 Kickboxing great Peter Aerts(their first two bouts have been among the best matches in BOTB so far in 96).

The April 22nd Judgement Night is going to be getting the finishing touches tonight and will be ready to go live in real time next Monday night, it's a fucking banger too, 60,000 plus in the Hoosier Dome for Hulk's return to the ring vs Ahmed, 2 hours live on USA Network in 1996.
There has been an exclusive interview with Jeff Jarrett about his upcoming no DQ match against the returning Dustin Rhodes posted on the AOL page for Best Of The Best. I don't think it was saved in the wayback machine but looking at a recap of the interview he has some pretty nasty stuff to say about Rhodes time as "Gold Dust" last year in WWF. Jarrett also revealed that he's working on new material for a new album dropping on CD and Cassette tape in 1996. In the AOL interview Jarrett reveals that country music is going through major changes in the year 1996 and his new material he's writing will be on the cutting edge of what is happening in Nashville, the old dinosaurs like Alan Jackson, Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chesnutt, are going to be left behind the times, the new name in country radio in 1996 will be Double J. Exciting times!

It took me a little bit to figure out what to do with Jeff Jarrett, I just know I wanted to push him somehow for the Baker dimes. I came up with some great stuff, unleash my inner pop country songwriter. Expect a new Double J cd in 1996 keeping up with the changes going on in country radio, there is a shift to be more pop radio friendly. Let’s fucking go.
