Super Smash Bros Ultimate is the latest game in my collection. Not only did I buy it, I made a point to wake up first thing, race in and grab a copy before my busy day. As skeptical as I was about Smash from E3, Sakurai has shown that Smash is more than just a cheap cash grab. It's a love-letter to every video game fan who cares deeply about these series and a real celebration. I've only had a limited amount of time with the game, but so far it's a blast to play. I've been making my way through Adventure Mode, levelling up Spirits, unlocking fighters and waving at the screen every few seconds as Kirby.
Not only does Smash respect Nintendo IPs, get a load of this:
Even as a teaser trailer, the attention to detail with all the original VAs and authentic dialogue is remarkable. Joker should be a fun player to play as and I'm sure he won't have any trouble fitting in.
If this does allude to Persona 5 coming out on Switch, that would also be amazing.

I started playing last night, unlocked Ness, Zelda and Bowser so only before going to sleep, and did Classic Mode as Kirby (the boss for Kirby's run is special, you should see it yourself).
I love the game so far, the mechanics make everything feel more fluid, and most characters feel the best they have been in a long while.
My only complaint was that my first Spirit was fucking Infinite from Sonic Forces, eww. Turned him into a core inmediately and went to the spirit board to get a real first spirit.
Ended up getting Felix from Golden Sun, good.

Love the game so far. Only have 40 some characters playable right now. So many more to unlock. Just been playing a bunch of classic mode.

So, Squeenix are teasing a "Suprise" Dragon Quest XI S announcement in January. There was a post on a Japanese message a week ago saying the next announced DLC character would be a Dragon Quest XI one, so this is interesting.

New update today, adds Stage Builder mode, the ability to edit videos made out of replays, online sharing of videos/stages/miis via the Smash World phone app, and the Joker DLC for those that bought it of course.

I like the story behind Joker's inclusion into Smash. Sakurai was so busy he only had time for one game during the back-end of development and he made Persona 5 his treat. Not only did he play through the game, he meticulously tried to complete every social link in one run which requires all sorts of dedications. You can see why Sakurai is such a fan of the games as well. The menu and the UI in Persona is so lush, it feels like something you'd find in a Kirby, Kid Icarus or Smash game.
They've done a wonderful job of honoring the series. I thought the Persona 5 references were good enough on their own, but to include Persona 3-4 music is a real bonus.
I'm tempted to pick it up, but truth be told, I haven't played much Smash since Christmas. I'll pick up the Season Pass on a lazy Sunday when I'm in the mood.

Byleth is the fifth and final character announced for the DLC pass.
It's something of an underwhelming note to go out on given the theme of the DLC pack so far, but the presentation was A+ and the character looks enjoyable to play as.
Smash is set to announce another six fighters for their next DLC pass, so it's a game that never stops growing.
Sakurai counting in binary was brilliant.

I'm not really big on Byleth being added to the game, but we'll see how the character plays once it's released. Blindy, Big Pete, @nighty, System, Who was your guys favourite character from the first DLC pack? Also, who would you like to see as DLC in the next pack? For me, I think favourite one to play as, was either Banjo & Kazooie, or Joker (Piranha Plant is fun to use as well, though not sure if he counts). As for me, I'm one of those people who want to see Waluigi in the game (even if he's just a shadow fighter of Wario), also wouldn't mind another Sonic character (Knuckles or Dr. Robotnik/Dr. Eggman) being added to the game as well. I love Smash Bros Ultimate, it was one of my top played Switch games of last year, the fact we'll still be getting new fighters added to the game, this year as well as next year, is pretty awesome.

I still haven't bought the DLC. I was waiting for Christmas sales which didn't materialise and now I'm neck deep in other games. I'll probably pick it up in the coming weeks.
The Joker reveal was the biggest since it was so out of left field yet felt like a perfect fit. It was great to see a long running franchise like SMT receive some recognition, especially since IV and V have been Nintendo exclusives. It's just a shame Atlus couldn't port Persona 5 Royal to the Switch.
Otherwise the Banjo Kazooie reveal was joyous and I loved all the remixes Kirkhope came up with.
As far as dream characters, I'd like to see Goemon. I don't really want to see too many 'mature' characters like Dante or characters of that nature, I'd rather see mascots like Goemon, Bomberman and Arthur (Ghouls n Ghosts) in the frame.
I also don't have an issue with Fire Emblem, since like Earthbound, I heavily associate Smash with that serious. I had never heard of the series prior and most likely wouldn't have if it wasn't for Melee.

If I were to rank the currently released DLC characters, it would go: Terry Bogard Banjo & Kazooie Hero Piranha Plant Joker I am team Edelgard but that'd ignore Claude and Dimitri who are just as important to the story. But Bernie needs to be an assist trophy have her shoot a giant arrow, fall on her ass and run for her dear life away. There is no other assist trophy but Bernadette. Great comic relief and arguably the best sniper in Three houses

Bro, Sakurai counted in binary just to tell you how significant the Fire Emblem IP is. ARMS was not a known property at the time of it's release, for all he knew, it could have been the Wii Music of the Switch.

Have to man up, swallow my pride and take the gigantic L here because Sakurai read this thread and said "Wait and see motherfucker!" because an ARMS character(I think Ribbon Girl but maybe the Clown chick, Twintelle is an trophy in this) is coming as DLC this June for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Not that I play this game anymore but have to take the loss here because they didn't give up on the franchise.

She does have a Switch Lite though, but only Pokemon Sword, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and of course the SNES app on the Switch (back in March, we very slowly made it through Super Mario World (her first time playing it))
