Also perhaps worth noting that Ruffalo's character is portrayed as the villain of the movie. A miserable leach of sorts who wants to control Bella, that likely likes her originally because she is so easy to manipulate into doing whatever he wants. As she ages mentally he loses control of her creating conflict. The film is not glorifying the sex early in the film.

Man, Dream Scenario is a total fucking bummer of a film, Cage is great in it, and starts out strong with the premise, then every single person in the guy’s life even tangentially ends up being a terrible person. Like, it was good, but definitely never watch again because it’s just a total drag, nothing positive to be taken, just beating you over the head with the worst parts of mob mentality.

Some catching up on movies I’ve watched lately -
King Fu Panda 4 - as with probably any movie doing its fourth iteration, it’s a pale imitator of the original. It’s not like any of these were great, but this one was overwhelmingly meh. Akwafina’s new character is the best part of it.
Steel Magnolias - My wife has a few chick flick type movies that she wants me to see and this was the first. It’s a good one, lots of laughs. She warns me that Terms of Endearment isn’t going to be as fun.
Kelce - rewatched the doc on Amazon now that Jason has retired. Really enjoyable watch.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Completely forgettable, after life was quite enjoyable so shouldn’t have been hard to follow up.
Immaculate
Pretty bleak & brutal film which is what you want from horror but I wouldn’t watch it again. Sydney Sweeny was great, Catholic feel good film of the year.

Roadhouse 3.
I refuse to call it a remake, so I'll call it Roadhouse 3. Yes, there was a Roadhouse 2. No, you aren't missing anything. This was a fun watch. Lots of bar brawls and quippy lines with some nods to the original. I didn't enjoy it AS much as the OG, but it was good for what it was. There were lots of ideas they introduced that really didn't fully flesh out, but maybe we'll see a sequel?

Wonka was a perfectly fine film, songs all worked well despite being instantly forgettable. Don’t think TC was much of a Willy Wonka, but was a solid general performance. Few decent laughs, solid ensemble, worse ways to spend just under 2 hours. Doubt I’d return to it though, stick with the OG.

Code 8: Part II I thought this was more enjoyable than the first film. I felt overall, that it told a better, more intriguing story. The Underdoggs: Snoop Dogg attempts to do his best Coach Bombay impersonation, except you know with a whole lot more cussing and weed smoking. It’s not a bad movie for what it is, definitely something that’s been done before, but still not a bad way to kill an hour and a half or so. This Is Me… Now: A Love Story: I'll be honest, I only watched this cause Jennifer Lopez is in it. 2024 Films SeenArgylle Code 8: Part II Damsel Imaginary Kung Fu Panda 4 Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Night Swim Orion and the Dark The Beekeeper The Underdoggs This Is Me… Now: A Love Story

Ricky Stanicky was amusing enough. Surprising that a movie like that didn’t get to theaters, but also the two guys that were the friends of the main guy were awful. Characters sucked and actors were worse.

Love Lies Bleeding
Really on board with this then it just jumped the shark at the end. Otherwise great film, like Beau is Afraid I feel like some studio interference would have been good.
I liked the hypocrisy of Kristen Stewart’s character regarding her sister and the guns/strength parallels. No one in this film was 100% a good person which was a nice touch too.
As out there as it was, any other studio could have made this a much more sanitised story and appeal to a wider audience so I’d be curious to see that take also.
Dream Scenario
Funny at times but not really sure what it was going for. That being an average man can be a good thing and becoming a meme/internet personality is ultimately futile?
I’m not sure. Still thinking about it so props there.

Godzilla v Kong 10/10 no notes. Pretty much if you liked the last one should like this one. Does a lot of world building with the hollow earth. Top level animation on Kong. Opens the door for all sorts of crazy shit moving forward.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey 2
Better than the first one, especially visually but that’s not saying much because the first one was ass. Solid slasher flick, save it for Halloween.
Monkey Man
This was so disappointing considering the review scores. It’s ok but I was expecting a 10/10 film, and it just felt like Bollywood lite for people that can’t handle all subtitles and the singing/dancing.
Jawan is a much better film like this.

There's a few, but recently Blackberry.
It's the story of the smart phone from the late 1990s to mid 2000s. It's predictable, knowing the iPhone killed everything in 2007. And at times it tries to be a Social Network copycat, but doesn't quite get there and kinda feels more like Valley of the Boom at times. But it's worth a watch if anything for Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton as the leads.
The one thing I've learnt from every movie, series or documentary about tech, is that tech companies should not be ran by tech guys. They're awful human beings.

I could not get into Blackberry at all. It wanted to be Social Network or Pirates of Silicon Valley without the story to get there. It felt like it would make a great History Channel docu-series with cuts to the real talking heads. It's billed as a comedy, I don't know why. It's interesting in the sense it's some what a forgotten part of our social media revolution. I also wanted to fire Doug within 5 minutes of seeing the character on screen and I thought Jay was doing his best Julian Assange impressionation by the end.

I see PW loves the term "for what it was", and on paper that feels like a meh but it makes me think are we going into these things expecting something different than what's advertised?

A lot do. Like dumb action films are great if you expect dumb action with no deeper meaning. Or slasher films where you really do not care about a story so long as people die in creative ways.

Civil War
Like The Purge it presents a really interesting premise then focuses on something else. Good film but prequel would be much more interesting. The characters had depth but they were so incredibly dumb sans the old dude from “Beau is Afraid”.
Going on a road trip across a war torn USA and you don’t have guns, first aid, Jerry cans or seemingly anything except cameras? I know that isn’t the focus of the film but one guy says it best “are you guys hard r-d?”
Also only me, Sandylea and one random guy in the cinema and he just had to say something at the most crucial point of the film.
fml.
Godzilla x Kong The New Empire:
Couldn’t care less about the human stuff but Godzilla/Kong doing a suplex spot was worth the price of admission. Through it cracks me up every film including this shows the pyramids as deserted when there’s scammers all around it and a Pizza Hut nearby.

I was really looking forward to Civil War, I'll wait for it to his streaming now. Thanks System. Excellent premise though. Watch The Second Civil War, the comedy from 30 years ago. I thought it was funny.

Civil War is a fine film, but it’s not the movie I thought I’d be getting.
And I’m sorry, but choosing to make the media the protagonists is a miss.

Abigail: I went and saw this with the Wife, anyway, I thought it was bloody good (heavy on the bloody). While I haven't seen much horror wise this year, from what little I've seen, this is easily the best of the bunch. This is a top three 2024 film for me (so far), just a lot of fun. 2024 Films SeenAbigail Argylle Code 8: Part II Damsel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Imaginary Kung Fu Panda 4 Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Night Swim Orion and the Dark Ricky Stanicky The Beekeeper The Underdoggs This Is Me… Now: A Love Story

Watched Monkey Man. Basically a John Woo or Chan-wook film set in India. Dev Patel really nailed his debut. Tons of fun and very pretty film. Not all the themes he wanted to payoff did, but still, enough worked to make it good. Hope he makes more films, and keeps the Indian influence as it worked so do damn well.
Some of the fight scenes are the best I seen. Yup there with The Crow or Oldboy.
Film REALLY took me by surprise with just how good it was.

I was bored out of my mind, and every single fight scene they cut the camera away and you couldn’t see any of it 😳 everyone was praising this movie so my expectations were extremely high I was expecting 10/10 and I don’t remember anything I actually liked about it. Dev Patel was great, he is a good actor but as a director/writer it’s lacking. Honestly the fight scenes were so disappointing, but especially with people comparing to John Wick as well.

Some thoughts on recent movies I’ve seen… Immaculate: I thought the first two-thirds of the movie was boring. Admittedly things did turn around for the better near the end, just not enough to save the movie IMO. I only really gave this a watch cause of Sydney Sweeney being in it, I wish I didn’t. Road House: Two hours of my life, I’ll never get back. If you are going to watch Road House, just stick to the OG film, at least that one is entertaining. I wouldn't recommend either movie to be honest. 2024 Films SeenAbigail Argylle Code 8: Part II Damsel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Heart of the Hunter Imaginary Immaculate Kung Fu Panda 4 Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Night Swim Orion and the Dark Ricky Stanicky Road House The Beekeeper The Underdoggs This Is Me… Now: A Love Story Upgraded Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp
