It Ends With Us: Never read the book but it felt like it had to rush through a lot of stuff, otherwise I enjoyed it for what it was. Glad it poked fun at how ridiculous this films get at times. Borderlands: We were going to go see “Sleeping Dogs” (not based on the game) starring Russel Crowe who must be having money issues the amount of films he’s been in lately. Even with a loyalty card the tix would have been $22 each. So we decided to see Borderlands at the local cinema instead, knowing the reviews are overwhelmingly negative. It’s just ok, some laughs here and there. sandylea loves Tiny Tina’s Wonderland so knew more about the games than I do. Said the casting was off but thought it was just average also. Claptrap was the best part of the film.

I don't know if Hugh Jackman was a big name in 2001 Swordfish was his big follow-up to X-Men. Jackman was a virtual unknown at the time, only know for his work in the theatre when the role virtually fell into his lap. X-Men had all the makings of a genre killer, yet outperformed expectations and it helped make Jackman an overnight sensation. Swordfish is a time capsule of what a prototypical 2001 popcorn movie looked like. It's very clearly trying to hop on the Matrix bandwagon and be this sexy thrill-ride of a movie, but like you said it has absolutely no substance. Jackman would follow-up the movie with a couple of rom-coms like Kate and Leopold where he'd play the hunk before returning with X-2. It's funny watching old Rugby League games and there he is performing the National Anthemn for the 1999 Grand Final as a complete unknown, only to become a household name down here a year later.

Knox Goes Away 2023 with Michael Keaton
Keaton plays a very smart, you could say brilliant contract killer that is diagnosed with a very aggressive form of dementia. It's pretty much a redemption story for Keaton's character (Knox). The last chance for a father to make things right in a variety of ways. Showing glimpses of how good he used to be at his job and also, starting the fall of a legend that tried hard to be unknown in the big picture. Worth your time, in my opinion. The story is good, but tries to be too clever at times, which hurts it overall. A better than average movie, it had potential to be better.

I have officially seen sixty-three films from this year, with Harold and the Purple Crayon. The boys loved the movie, and I liked it as well, more so since I was watching it with them. I also recently watched both of the Extraction movies with Chris Hemsworth as well, I thought they were pretty good (although not great), with the second installment being my favourite of the two films. There is supposedly a third one in the works, which is nice as it’ll make for some (good) lazy Sunday viewing, once it comes out.

"Jackpot" was pretty dumb, but it had some decent moments sprinkled in. It's basically just a comedy Purge w/more plot holes. Cena carried the show; personally found Awkwafina to be unfunny.
With a tighter script and some tweaked casting, it could have been a lot funnier. It's never good when the bloopers are more comedic than the film itself.

I watched the second and third Fullmetal Alchemist movies (via Netflix), completing the live-action trilogy. As far as live-action anime/manga adaptations go, I liked these movies well enough, maybe not as much as Speed Racer, but def better than Dragon Ball Evolution.
I also watched the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, easily the best Freddy Kruger movie I've seen*. Plus, it was cool seeing a pre-Arrow Katie Cassidy in this as well.
*Granted, that's not saying much, as the only ither one I've seen, is Freddy vs. Jason.

I finally got around to watching Despicable Me 4, if you are a fan of the Despicable Me and/or the Minions movies, then you should like this one as well.. Speaking of live-action anime/manga adaptations (my last post in this thread), I also watched the 2018 Bleach film, I rather enjoyed this one in all honesty, and would have loved for this to of gotten a trilogy, like the Fullmetal Alchemist series got.
My next major project, is to make my way through the Saw series, as I’ve only ever seen the first two movies and X. As someone who hates getting blood work, etc. done, the needle pit is as disturbing now, as it was twenty years ago. I absolutely hate it.

Crow remake is a masterpiece. It is like a goth movie by aliens who were never exposed to actual goth culture and instead just took random bits and pieces from Hot Topic pics and put them together. Like main dude had soundcloud fuckboy tats, one 80's dangling earring and bad eye shadow. They play random Joy Division then break out Enya because surely goths like Enya.
Some absolutely amazing effects in this though. Like his wounds stitch themselves back together and it is amazing looking. But god feels like when the writer strike happened they just hired someone with no experience to write a movie about the Crow. The underlying story is not bad, it just absolutely poorly executed and feels like the Crow stuff was a last minute tack on to a John Wick ripoff.

Based on that post, I'm don't know whether hated it or you loved it.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
What a mouth full. I love me a monkey movie, and this didn't disappoint. This series is one that likely flies under the radar for most, but despite a departure from the original characters it's worth a watch - it is apparently part 1 of a new trilogy focusing on new top monkey, Noa.

I ended up doing a rare double feature at the theatre last night… Alien: Romulus: I rather enjoyed this one, a lot actually, it had my interest from opening credits to end credits. Easily a top-five 2024 movie release for me, just so much fun watching it on the big screen. Also, the xenomorph-human hybrid-looking thing, was pretty cool, and terrifying, I loved it. Blink Twice If I’m being perfectly honest, I found this movie boring, for the first half. Admittedly, things did pick up and the film started getting interesting near the end, but man, was it a chore to watch until then. I’ll say this, the trailer makes Blink Twice far more interesting than it was. Overall, I’d recommend watching Alien: Romulus and avoid seeing Blink Twice. 2024 Films SeenAbigail A Family Affair Air Force One Down Alien: Romulus Argylle Atlas A Quiet Place: Day One Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Blink Twice Bloodline Killer Bob Marley: One Love Cash Out Challengers Code 8: Part II Cult Killer Damsel Deadpool & Wolverine Descendants: The Rise of Red Despicable Me 4 Dune: Part 2 Founders Day French Girl Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Harold and the Purple Crayon Heart of the Hunter IF Imaginary Immaculate Inside Out 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2 Kung Fu Panda 4 Land of Bad Late Night with the Devil Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Mean Girls Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate Miller’s Girl Mother of the Bride Musica Night Swim Orion and the Dark Players Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver Ricky Stanicky Road House Role Play Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie Sting Tarot The Beekeeper The Exorcism The First Omen The Garfield Movie The Painter The Underdoggs The Wages of Fear This Is Me… Now: A Love Story Trigger Warning Under Paris Unfrosted Upgraded Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp

"Humane" is another dumb movie getting in its own way and ruining a cool concept. Directorial debut from Cronenberg's daughter btw. It's just...not a good film. Pacing sucks, lighting was Lifetime channel quality, script was half-baked, acting was mediocre (minus Enrico Colantoni, he's a wonderful shithead). I'm surprised this rated above 70%.
Caught "Longlegs" last night. I'm a huge Nicolas Cage fan but I thought it was disappointing. He's wonderful, and the vibes are extremely creepy, but the story was a real nothingburger and could have been fleshed out better. Not at all the worst film I've seen this year though, just didn't live up to the hype.

The Crow (2024)
Complete garbage. Even if it was a standalone film it would suck but it messes up just about every aspect of the story. Performances awful (and Bill Skarsgård has been great in other stuff) with no chemistry at all.

A Quiet Place: I liked Day One well enough that I have decided to watch the other movies in the series (now that I am done with my Saw-a-thon). I’m not really sure how I feel about this one, like you know making any sound is a bad idea, you lost a kid because of him turning on the toy, yet you bring a baby aka a major noise maker into this world? It just seems pretty fucking stupid, just cause John Krasinski’s character needed to get his dick wet, but I’m sure it’s worth risking the whole family getting killed. Chupa: A cute little family film, probably not something I’ll watch again, but I did like it. Spaceman: Honestly, I was bored by this one. I probably would have turned it off, if not for the fact, I was watching it with somebody else. The Union: Easily my favorite of the bunch. A pretty good movie (via Netflix), with a great cast. 2024 Films SeenAbigail A Family Affair Air Force One Down Alien: Romulus Argylle Atlas A Quiet Place: Day One Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Blink Twice Bloodline Killer Bob Marley: One Love Cash Out Challengers Code 8: Part II Cult Killer Damsel Deadpool & Wolverine Descendants: The Rise of Red Despicable Me 4 Dune: Part 2 Founders Day French Girl Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Harold and the Purple Crayon Heart of the Hunter IF Imaginary Immaculate Inside Out 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 Kung Fu Panda 4 Land of Bad Late Night with the Devil Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Mean Girls Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate Miller’s Girl Mother of the Bride Musica Night Swim Orion and the Dark Players Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver Ricky Stanicky Road House Role Play Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie Spaceman Sting Tarot The Beekeeper The Exorcism The First Omen The Garfield Movie The Painter The Underdoggs The Union The Wages of Fear This Is Me… Now: A Love Story Trigger Warning Under Paris Unfrosted Upgraded Watchmen: Chapter 1 Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp

The good: Josh Hartnett's performance was stellar. I like him in this role. M. Night's daughter plays the musician; her acting is nothing to write home about but the music was actually pretty decent. Kid Cudi made a wild cameo. It's also not Shamyalan's worst film by any stretch.
The bad: Typical M. Night shenanigans that make me struggle to suspend disbelief worse than 2019 WWE. Could have cut off 30 min. of runtime honestly. Harry Houdini here had to really get over though.

This was the first one they insisted on redoing the Draven story. Even the author of the original comic came out against this one. Retained the names but like nothing else from it.
The sad thing is, remove all the Crow stuff, there could have been a decent movie in this. Had great visuals and some cool stuff. But wrapping it all around the Crow like ruined it entirely. I did find it ironic that it seemed more inspired by Preacher than the Crow, despite being a fucking Crow remake.
The plus side is it did so goddamn awful at the box it will be a long time before they dig up Draven again.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice:
For a sequel 36 years after the original, it’s pretty good. Jenna Ortega’s character is a it annoying especially with the shoehorned climate change stuff in it but the cast that reprise their roles are all fun. I had no idea Jeffery Jones was a pedo and that’s why he isn’t in this 🫠.
Michael Keaton was fun, too many subplots through the film though.
Two very nit picky things:
They use poisonous when they mean venomous 90’s vinyl is very expensive as it wasn’t the popular format, not easy to come by especially in bargain bins.

Finally saw LONGLEGS. It was good overall. Very creepy and suspenseful. Loved the first 75% of the movie. But the ending fell flat. I knew going in that the ending was a problem for a lot of people and I couldn't help but agree. I don't feel like it was executed well. A lot was left unexplained, which I don't normally have a problem with, but in this case it was too much. It felt like there was no resolution and more questions than answers, and because it was left with so many loose ends the end of the film felt very abrupt and unsatisfying. There's a lot to talk about the final act of the movie but the main one is: the fact that the FBI agent just stood in the living room while her boss murdered his wife in the other room. I'm assuming you are supposed to think the doll or demonic force is preventing her from doing anything, but that is never explained and in the movie it literally looks like she just stands there and listens to a woman get brutally killed, then decides to do something about it after the fact.
There's other scenes in the ending that are just as bad but that one stuck out like crazy. Made zero sense. Also when my wife and I talked about the movie the next day she didn't connect the dots at all that: Long Legs was living in her mom's basement the entire time. She's usually pretty keen on that kind of stuff but it went right over her head, so if she missed it then I know a lot of other people did too.
7/10. Spooky and weird, loved the vibe for most of the film, but no reason to watch it again and the ending sucked.

65: It has dinosaurs in it, dinosaurs are, were and will always be awesome. Joking aside though, I enjoyed this one and thought Adam Driver was pretty good in this movie. Bionic: A cool concept that was poorly executed. Inside Man: Most Wanted: A sequel to 2006's Inside Man, a direct-to-video that lacks the star power of the original (IE Denzel Washington, and Jodie Foster). Admittedly, I didn’t completely hate it, and there are far worse movies to watch on Netflix, so there is that as well. 2024 Films SeenAbigail A Family Affair Air Force One Down Alien: Romulus Argylle Atlas A Quiet Place: Day One Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Bionic Blink Twice Bloodline Killer Bob Marley: One Love Cash Out Challengers Code 8: Part II Cult Killer Damsel Deadpool & Wolverine Descendants: The Rise of Red Despicable Me 4 Dune: Part 2 Founders Day French Girl Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Harold and the Purple Crayon Heart of the Hunter Hit Man IF Imaginary Immaculate Inside Out 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 Kung Fu Panda 4 Land of Bad Late Night with the Devil Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Mean Girls Megamind vs.

For why she let the mother get killed, she was protecting the daughter.
Also if you missed it, she was supposed to be autistic, so she was great at puzzles, but shit at seeing the real world in front of her face. Kind of also baked into the front of the movie.

Afraid: I recently went and saw this in threatres, it’s about what one would expect from a Blumhouse production, which is to say, a few decent jump scares. It’s neither bad nor all that great, however, they’ve put out some better movies over the last couple of years. Maybe give it a watch, once it pops up on a streaming service, that you're already paying for. Blood Sky Red: I gave this a watch, as someone on Letterboxd claimed it was “From Dusk Til Dawn” meets “Snakes on a Plane”. I’m not sure if that’s entirely true or not, but I don’t feel like I wasted two hours of my life watching it, so there is that. Rebel Ridge: Any movie that opens up with Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast is an instant win IMO. I thought this was rather enjoyable for a Netflix original flick, and easily my favourite of these three films (gave it a watch, thanks to RagnarokMike's comments, like him, I would recommend this as well). 2024 Films SeenAbigail Afraid A Family Affair Air Force One Down Alien: Romulus Argylle Atlas A Quiet Place: Day One Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Bionic Blink Twice Bloodline Killer Bob Marley: One Love Cash Out Challengers Code 8: Part II Cult Killer Damsel Deadpool & Wolverine Descendants: The Rise of Red Despicable Me 4 Dune: Part 2 Founders Day French Girl Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Harold and the Purple Crayon Heart of the Hunter Hit Man IF Imaginary Immaculate Inside Out 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2 Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 Kung Fu Panda 4 Land of Bad Late Night with the Devil Lift Lisa Frankenstein Madame Web Mean Girls Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate Miller’s Girl Mother of the Bride Musica Night Swim Orion and the Dark Players Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver Rebel Ridge Ricky Stanicky Road House Role Play Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie Spaceman Sting Tarot The Beekeeper The Exorcism The First Omen The Garfield Movie The Painter The Underdoggs The Union The Wages of Fear This Is Me… Now: A Love Story Trigger Warning Under Paris Unfrosted Upgraded Watchmen: Chapter 1 Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp

Following (Christopher Nolan, 1998)
Christopher Nolan's debut, the one film of his that few people know. He became more famous after his subsequent film Memento. Both films have in common a monochrome setting (Memento partially, Following entirely), and a noir story told in non-linear fashion.
I wouldn't argue that Following is necessarily better than Memento, but it's certainly less obtuse. The long con story of Following is told delicately, with every scene in exactly the right place. An obvious twist is set up, with a satisfactory payoff, immediately followed by a second, surprising, twist. I came out of the film understanding and appreciating everything that happened. I didn't feel dumbstruck, confused, or bored. Memento is more ambitious and has a fascinating presentation, but it required at least two sittings and a plot dissection from Wikipedia for me to fully understand. As revered as Memento is, it's a little too clever for its own good, while Following is exactly the right amount of clever.
Where Following falls short is that it leans too much into its noir influences. The drab settings and especially the monotone speech patterns of every single character does reduce the viewing experience. I'm not sure why as I have no problem with that style in the classics from decades ago. Maybe it's the British accents?
Despite that, Following is fantastic, a tight and well-shot script which has plenty to say about human nature. I'm surprised it's flown under the radar where Memento and practically every other Nolan film receives hero worship.

Speak No Evil (2022) Immensely frustrating and bleak film with no redemption. A poor man’s “Funny Games”, I know it’s the point but the husband character was pathetic. The guy that plays Patrick did a great job and some gorgeous shots but it made me want to be one of those people that screams at the screen. Speak No Evil (2024) Fixed almost everything I disliked about the original. It completely betrays what the original was going for so fans of the OG will be frustrated but this is the few times a Hollywood remake has fixed a film for me. James McAvoy was great as Paddy (Patrick) too.
I really like the reversal with the bashing Paddy to death with a rock ending as opposed to the couple getting stoned to death in the original
