Can we all agree that Miracle on 34th Street is the best Christmas movie?

No.
Also the “Die Hard is a Christmas movie” truthers on the internet are nonstop. I saw at least one Die Hard is a Christmas movie meme per day the last week or so. I can’t come up with a reason to care if it is or isn’t.

34th st came out in May and no because the producers were clearly trying to experiment with the release date. Die Hard was following the trends Spielberg set in the 70s, it being set around Christmas time was merely a superficial choice. Like Lethal Weapon, like Rocky 4, like Eyes Wide Shut - not a real Christmas movie. The fact that Die Hard takes place on Christmas Eve is not a superficial choice, it's the basis for the novel it's based on. The fact that a Christmas party is going on gives the bad guys a cover for getting in the building. It's key to the story. The writer of the movie says he intended it to be a Christmas movie. Bruce Willis just loves himself some Bruce Willis. It's a Christmas movie to me. Dismissing the Christmas theme doesn't not make it a Christmas movie.

Who fucking cares? Jesus. Something being a "Christmas movie" is a totally arbitrary classification that could either mean Die Hard is one or isn't based on what you happen to personally deem merits the term. If there's a real definition for Christmas movie, it would be very easy to determine if it was one or not. Fuck. Pointless to argue about.
But it totally is a Christmas movie.
Also, the best Christmas movie of all time is James Stewart.

Just watched Good Boys. Nothing revolutionary, except how attractive Will Forte has become to Wife, but fun and cute and funny overall. Definitely an entertaining 90 minutes.

The violence? The terrorist scheme? The only festive spirit the movie has is the soundtrack and even that's more out of a sense of irony than anything else.
If people choose to watch Die Hard on Christmas, then that's fine. It's a minority and everyone is entitled to their own traditions. However, I draw the line on it being considered one of the best Christmas movies ever. Even if we're going on a technicality, it's not festive enough to push the real heavyweights out of the way.

The run across the interstate was great, the rest felt like American Pie for 12 year olds which isn’t bad, but also isn’t great.

However, I draw the line on it being considered one of the best Christmas movies ever. Even if we're going on a technicality, it's not festive enough to push the real heavyweights out of the way. This is getting ridiculous. It fits some people’s idea of a Christmas movie because it’s Christmas in the movie and it has a happy cheesy ending with snow falling. It doesn’t fit other people’s idea because the focus of the movie is not about something Christmasy. It’s two different definitions of the arbitrary term. Is that so hard to understand? Is it really that important to anyone that they prove their definition is “more correct”? Watching any movie on Christmas is a minority because there is no one movie that a majority of people watch on a Christmas day. Just let people enjoy what they want and watch what they feel is a Christmas movie without trying to belittle their Christmas classification. Both definitions of the term are equally valid. One is just a more encompassing general term and the other is a specific one. Why can’t we just all be friends? These forums could be Christmas for everyone every day.

Again, just because it doesn't fit your definition of a Christmas movie...etc..etc. John McClane does as many miraculous things as Santa has ever done in a movie. He comes bearing gifts...he was a weary traveler. Santa's in the movie, granted it's a dead bad guy. When it comes right down to it, I don't care what you think...I said one thing about the movie and that was only because you were saying it wasn't set at Christmas specifically for a reason. I'm not here to change your mind, because I know that's not going to happen, nor am I trying to. But, don't shit all over the concept, because whatever you say is gospel and no one else can have an opinion or differ from your view.

Actually I said it was a superficial choice and I stand by that. They couldn't have come up with any reason to have an office party and explain bad security in a film? Seriously? We all know the cops in movies are incredibly incompetent, is that wrinkle even necessary?
And yeah I'm clapping back against all you cretins who ruin every Christmas list with your um technically Die Hard is nonsense crap. Go ahead, like it, but just know there's a dissenting voice that's more than happy to take a giant dump over your cold hipster hearts.
Die Hard is not a Christmas Movie and that's my Ted Talk.

Just saw Jumanji: The Next Level and it got a long round of applause from the people in the cinema when it ended.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
(It wasn’t bad but of ALL the films out there?)
Conversely I saw Inception on release day and a fair portion of the audience walked out before the 20 min mark.

Uncut Gems: Great character study and Adam Sandler definitely deserves an oscar for his performance but it's not a film I absolutely loved. I would have Phoenix before Sandler, but Sandler was good here and I don't think he's played that type of character before in any of his other serious movies.
I kept waiting for the film to go in an interesting direction, but it was pretty grounded in retrospect. For instance I thought they'd run into more complications than what they did and it would lead to bigger stakes, but you basically know everything you have to inside the opening 10 minutes. The only real complication feels like something out of a National Lampoon's Vacation story. I wouldn't mind watching it again, but I couldn't help but want to watch Good Times again.

We’re re-watching the Marvel films in chronological order on Disney+ and we’re up to the first Avengers now. Quick recap of things I’ve noticed, especially because I haven’t seen most of these movies lately (minus Captain Marvel). Captain America: is it me or the CGI in this movie really bad? I know it came out like 8 years ago but still. It seemed really terrible compared to the other films. Even the CGI in Thor was better and they basically had to build a planet with computers. Maybe they blew their whole budget on making Chris Evans look 5 feet tall? I dunno. Captain Marvel: still a really great movie. My only complaint was Brie Larson’s acting feeling really clunky in a couple scenes and that’s still my only complaint. It’s weird because I’ve seen her in other stuff and she’s a good actress. Was she told to deliver her lines like she’s selling life insurance? I don’t get it. Still awesome though. Lots of action, killer soundtrack, Jude Law. Iron Man: man, this movie still holds up as one of the best in the MCU. I can’t think of many other character introductions in movies that are better than this. Iron Man 2: I know this movie gets quite a bit of flak from fans but I don’t know why. This might be the best portrayal of Tony Stark in the MCU, going from his cocky egotistical self to humble hero. And Mickey Rourke is awesome as Whiplash, I don’t care what anyone says. And you add in Sam Rockwell, some Easter eggs for future movies, SHIELD becoming more prevelant...it’s so good! (We skipped The Incredible Hulk because it’s barely an MCU movie and it fucking sucks. No need to watch it again). Thor: I haven’t seen this movie since it came out and I was blown away by how different Chris Hemsworth is at the start of Thor’s arc. I had totally forgotten. Thor’s arc is my favourite of the whole franchise and rewatching this movie just backed that up. To watch him go from the cocky warrior golden boy to what he was by the end of Endgame is going to be a treat all over again. Still a long ways to go and we decided that we’re not watching Far From Home until we finish the other movies, since it’s the last in the order we’re watching it in (and will hopefully be on Disney+ by the time we get to it). So I’ll be back with more. Way fucking behind on this summary. We’ve been crushing Marvel films over the holidays. The Avengers: what’s not to love? That first shot of the Assemble still gets me. Such a great flick from start to finish. Iron Man 3: Like most people I’m upset with how they handled The Mandarin but honestly it isn’t that bad. It’s stupid but it didn’t totally ruin the movie for me. It’s still one of the weakest MCU movies but not terrible. Thor: Dark World: I think this might be my least favourite MCU movie that isn’t The Incredible Hulk. Natalie Portman is awful, the story is blah, I didn’t like the villain...think about how Guardians of the Galaxy and Ragnarok made the crazy stuff awesome, then compare them to this movie. There ya go. Winter Solider: fucking awesome movie and maybe the most underrated of the whole series. I can’t believe how violent and terrible they make Bucky’s story. It’s excellent. Guardians of the Galaxy: the best character establishment that isn’t Iron Man. I absolutely fucking love this movie and it isn’t just one of the best MCU movies but one of my favourite movies ever. The cast, the soundtrack, the story, the action. Fuck yeah. GOTG2: almost as good as the first and the ending with Yondu gets me every time. Age of Ultron: this movie is waaayyyy too long. It’s ok, about middle of the road for MCU, but I feel like if this movie was 90 minutes long it would have been far better. Ant-Man: good character establishment, good cast, the train fight makes me laugh my ass off every time. Civil War: this movie was too busy and too long. I liked it the first time I saw it but on this second watch I was bored for most of it. It progressed the story well and the airport fight is still pretty good but it doesn’t make the movie. It’s just way too fucking long and they tried to do too much with it.
