I genuinely agree with Emperor that Parasite is totally the sort of film most people here would love. If Tarantino had made it it would already have been on numerous UT countdowns. If you are able to see it in a theatre you really should, as watching it with a packed crowd was one of my favourite cinema experiences in a long time - especially if you can avoid finding out much about it before going in. I thought UT hated QT? Suggesting UT is rigging the results?

Parasite is boring af..and I normally love South Korean films.
The Lighthouse: Really enjoyed it, cinematography is great but dialogue very hard to understand at times.
The Invisible Man: Pretty enjoyable film, although a lot of how the suit works doesn’t make sense it isn’t explained (invisible = super strength?). Haven’t seen the original but I’m curious to check it out.

Observe and Report - I was curious to check this out since it's a proto Eastbound and Down/Vice Principles/Righteous Gemstones. Rogen plays the Danny McBride archtype - the small-time guy with an over inflated ego who takes everything incredibly seriously. He's a mall cop who works with the police to track down this streaker who keeps coming to the mall and over the course of the investigation decides he wants to become a police officer. The only problem is that he's bi-polar and he decides to go off his medication and all sorts of insanity ensues.
It's one of those movies audiences originally slept on in 2009. It came out the same year as Paul Blart and the advertising was incredibly similar. It just looked like Paul Blart with Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Michael Pena and the obvious love interest for Rogen, Collette Wolfe. It's a different type of movie though and if anything has more in common with loner movies like Taxidriver.
It's a movie that suffers from executive meddling. The movie goes in some really dark places, but instead of going all the way they'll find something to softenthe blow. The movie has an opportunity to really dissect Rogen's character, but cheats at the last minute to ensure the status quo remains. Still, it has a lot of Jody Hill trademarks and as a fan of his TV shows it would certainly be in the conversation for my top comedies of the 2000s.
System How did you find it boring?

Big Pete same reason I found Midsommar boring, the themes and social commentary presented aren’t enough to make up for the slow plot and uninteresting characters. I get what the film was going for but I just found it very tedious.

Big Pete same reason I found Midsommar boring, the themes and social commentary presented aren’t enough to make up for the slow plot and uninteresting characters. I get what the film was going for but I just found it very tedious. Fair enough, I was really curious to hear the other side of the conversation because the movie is receiving so much praise.
It's funny though because I couldn't have cared less about the themes. Sure the classicism was there but the movie wasn't exactly saying anything we don't already know. It was actually the plot and the characters that drew me in. I liked how unapologetic the Kim family was and how they stooped to every low to get what they wanted. I also liked that the Park family weren't a pack of greedy foul-mouthed racists but just a little naive and blasse. I guess I could understand not being emotionally invested because the stakes are the Kim family being found out and just returning to the status quo but the characters weren't exactly bland.
It's a long movie, but I don't know about it being slow. I actually think it was smart that they changed it from a traditional three act movie into a six act and everything ticks along pretty quickly.
I'm not saying you're wrong or not entitled to your opinion, I'm just interested in hashing it out from another perspective.

Lady in Red: Just watch Public Enemies, much more entertaining Dillinger story, the end heist had some great moments, but it was mostly boring and nothing memorable. Kind of all over the place. 4/10
Trumbo: Nice to see a biopic that's seemingly more faithful in adapting the facts than many of the liberties others take for the sake of film, interested start to finish. 8/10
Old Man and the Gun: God damn Robert Redford is good, just so slick, another one that was rather slow, but still never really lulled for me. 8/10
The Mule: Man, I was really on a true(ish) story kick this week. Eastwood is as good as ever, even if now it's more selling a feeble old man instead of his once stoic badasses (almost 90, to be expected). Crazy to think some random old dude had become a prolific drug trafficker, another one I didn't find much fault in. 9/10

The CM Punk, call me Phil Brooks movie... Girl on the Third Floor
A few LAD Bible'y like pages were calling it, one of the scariest things they've ever seen. They say this every month with whatever the latest new Netflix horror movie is. It's awful. And much like Chris Jericho's music, the only people who will be interested in this, will be wrestling fans. They'll tell you it's good and like Jericho's music.. It aint. For such a good promo, Punk is a below average actor, who was likely signed on because of his name value or friendship with the equally tattooed director. Nothing you haven't seen done better a million times before.
Punker decides to renovate an old house in the 'burbs to save his marriage and raise his unborn child. The first 10 minutes shows Punk drinking beer and bourbon and cheating on his wife.. edgy. And he does this for most of the movie, including smoking, despite his ridiculous straight edge tattoo on show. The house is haunted. The end.

Polar. It's on Netflix. It's an adaptation. It's just an entertaining film. Like a caper movie. Or Taken, with a more realistic old man in Mads Mikkelsen.
I just looked up the director. Quite the resume'
Hans Uno Jonas Ã…kerlund Ã…kerlund was a member of the Swedish black metal band BathoryHe first found fame as the main video director for Roxette.he directed the acclaimed video for The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" His video for Madonna's song "Ray of Light" won a Grammy Award Directed Lords Of Chaos.

Oh yeah, I watched it in a packed cinema too. Me and one other person  The Invisible Man: Pretty enjoyable film, although a lot of how the suit works doesn’t make sense it isn’t explained (invisible = super strength?). Haven’t seen the original but I’m curious to check it out. The original, by which I mean the 1930s version, is fantastic. Well worth a watch, and pretty loyal to the source material. I understand that this modern remake modernised the story a lot, which sometimes works but usuall doesn't. Big Pete same reason I found Midsommar boring, the themes and social commentary presented aren’t enough to make up for the slow plot and uninteresting characters. I get what the film was going for but I just found it very tedious. I'm baffled by how anybody can come to the conclusion that the plot is slow. It moves very quickly and there's very little wasted time. But if you're not into the story or characters, I guess you'd find it slow.

The trailer for The Invisible Man felt like misandry defined. In the words of Steve Austin: WHAT? dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against men. I guess, Man wears invisible suit = killer, rapist. Women wears invisible suit = revenge against the sort of men mentioned above.

I know what misandry is, it just boggles the mind that’s what someone took from the trailer.

Just watched Toy Story 4 with Wife She contends it was better than 3 I don't recall 3 well enough to argue What say you all? If Wife wasn't pregnant, I'd accuse you of slipping her a gummi.
I'll say this, 4 is better than it has any right to be, but it's easily the less realised movie of the franchise. The majority of the cast gets locked in a car for the majority, and the resolution of the movie doesn't come together at all. Woody puts over the heel, the heel doesn't do anything with the rub and just turns babyface, wtf is this? TNA?
There's still enough charm there with the sheep, the Key and Peele plush dolls and the Keanu Reeves stunt driver guy but it's like an 8/10 compared to like the 9/10 to 10/10s of the previous movies.
I definitely feel like 4 pandered more towards women which I could see her getting into more. It's also more light hearted than 3 and I don't know if 3 is the type of movie you can show a young child.
Considering you'll be watching these movies at least 50 times when you become parents, I can see 4 being the easier watch, even if it's the lesser movie.

I had a 2 billion dollar idea while watching it, a Storm movie.
An African Woman of colour in the lead role. Easy Black Panther money.

The Invisible Man: I went and saw this over the weekend, it started off slow but thankfully picked up around the halfway point (basically everything from the mental hospital onwards). The ending was pretty predictable (which in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing), but the film managed to give me a few jump-scares throughout, which is about as good as you could expect. 2020 Movie Rankings 4. Underwater 3. Birds of Prey 2. The Invisible Man 1. Bad Boys for Life

Spenser Confidential
Disgraced former Boston police officer Spenser is released from a five-year prison sentence for intervening in a domestic dispute and assaulting his captain John Boylan. On the day of Spenser's release, Boylan and another officer are murdered. Spenser teams up with his no-nonsense new roommate, Hawk, to investigate and take down the guilty parties.
The Marky Mark lead action/thriller isn't too bad. If anything, it struggles in figuring out what type of movie it is, thriller? action/comedy? But it's decent.

The Call of the Wild: I saw The Call of the Wild last night, honestly thought Harrison Ford, would have had more screen time then he did. Anyways, I thought it was a decent enough film for what it was, def not something I'd go out of my way to watch a second-time mind you, but I don't regret seeing the movie either. 2020 Movie Rankings 5. Underwater 4. The Call of the Wild 3. Birds of Prey 2. The Invisible Man 1. Bad Boys for Life

Hamlet (Mel Gibson's): Really enjoyed it, all the performances seemed about as good as could be, Gibson's charisma definitely helps (I just realized, I didn't put him on my actors list, definitely up there). So far that's just Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet that I've managed, tried some other Shakespeare fare, and hasn't quite clicked. Still meaning to watch Fassbender's Macbeth.
Also, while I'm just starting, I'd like to point out, because I'm a dweeb, that I'm watching Yesterday today...and won't finish until tomorrow.
