Finally decided to watch Twelve Monkeys as I’ve heard people hype it for years. So I’ve avoided any plot details and started watching. Definitely not a movie to keep your mind off Covid 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Funny Game-Yeah, no. Just skip it. Nothing interesting, cheap turns, boo, boo. I love both versions, one of my favourite films.

Uncut Gems: God dammit Sandler, you're this damn good and phone it in 90% of the time. Such a great film, tension ramps up more and more, edge of your seat climax. Honestly, may top my Sandler/Stiller list, have to think on it. A+ film.

When you levy this against his other recent films, it's like night and day, just doesn't feel like he's really trying. Basically churning out cheap flicks for the check. This was a maximum effort performance.

The Meyowitz Stories was good, but that was with Noah Baumbach. I get the Ridiculous 6 or Sandy Wexler, that's shameful, but he's got the deal at Netflix and he makes all these movies with his friends. Sounds like he's got it all dialed in. Plus, this is him in a drama. He's great in dramas, comedy is hard.

Just because they want cheap comedies, still on him for the effort, he used POP even in his comedies.

Why do you care what I think? Made a general observation, you questioned, I elaborated. Your responses haven't really even sounded disagreeable, just "that's what Nexflix wants." I didn't even say I didn't like any of the movies, just that he's clearly put his all into this one and feels lazy in others. Not exactly scathing criticism.

Rewatched Chronicle, still hands down the best of the handcam/found footage style films for me, the premise lends it to still having dynamic scenes despite them all coming from the perspective of personal video. Dane Dehaan is one of those oddities, there was a few times, like this, where he was starting to get hyped as the next big thing, but then that never quite happened. Still young though, and getting steady work, can always find that role that shoots him to the tippy top. Though he does seem to have the perpetual youngster look, a lot like Leo, but even Leo looked more aged around this time...Dane can damn near still pass as a teen. Haven't slept, on a bit of a tangent there. Either way, still love the movie start to finish, nice brisk run time, doesn't overstay it's welcome, great climax. Aces.

Detective Pikachu - Bought a month of HBO to watch the Curb season and saw a few movies on it, this one part of the batch I'm working on. The story was secondary to just seeing the awesome computer generated Pokemon. And the fur man. THE FUR! I'm sure you could dedicate hours just pausing the movie throughout to see all the references. Just a good love letter in general.

The story was fine (though I didn't buy into the lead kid) but I was there to see the Pokemon, much like thereallt and dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

After my big bust with Uncut Gems last night, it was Wife's turn tonight. Netflix's Extraction. Not bad for a Netflix movie, and decent for a mindless action movie. Felt like a directorial debut, perhaps? Also felt like one part wannabe John Wick, one part wannabe Atomic Blonde, and one part wannabe 13 Hours. The body count is hilariously high too.

Makes sense, the director was the stunt coordinator on Atomic Blonde, and it was his feature film directorial debut... stuntman and coordinator for the most part.

I said the exact same thing to Wife ! The main character is " Tyler Rake " How video-game is that?! I mean, here's the discount I'll give it: The director guy, based on this and Atomic Blonde (and apparently he had a hand in Deadpool and Avengers?), the director of Extraction is incredibly talented at blocking out action scenes and choreographing fun fights. And the ones he does in long shots are all the more impressive. Wouldn't be surprised if someone like him was a behind the scenes influence for games like COD, etc. coordinating the motion capture stuff if not more.

Lionheart - I lasted 30 minutes in Dark Phoenix. I can't dude. It's not so much bad, but just not interesting at all. Maybe if Sansa had less clothes, but hats off to you friend for finishing it. What a [super]trooper.

What a [super]trooper. Less clothes is the ultimate Game Shark cheat code. It can overcome sooo many weaknesses! Can't act, bad script, no plot? No problem! Nothing gratuitous full frontal nudity can't compensate for.

Just watched the documentary "Abducted In Plain Sight" yesterday for the first time. It's an extremely well-made film, held my interest and didn't miss a single beat, but... dear god. The subject matter and the stupidity of the parents involved in this story is well beyond description. This next level buffoonery needs to be seen to be believed. I was also wayyyy late to the party but finally watched Tiger King. My thoughts: 1.) I could see Joe putting out the hit, but I could also see Jeff setting him up. Not too sure what to believe on that front. I dunno if Carole actually killed her husband but she did have a lot to gain from this death. Final thought: Fuck Jeff Lowe most of all. Dude just gives me the creeps. 2.) The only humans in the story I have sympathy for were mainly Joe's staff. You could tell they really cared about the animals. I feel terrible for the dude who had to see Travis shoot himself btw. His reaction to the incident was some of the hardest footage to watch by far. 3.) We done missed out on the greatest reality television show that never was... fuckin' a. 4.) That final bit by the campaign manager mentioned above where he talks about no animals benefited throughout this story was a poignant and very true point. At first I was enamored by Joe's antics and charisma and fell into that cult of personality quicksand myself, but by the end, I wanted to jump into my screen, kick his, Jeff and Carole's asses and set all of those animals free somewhere safe where they can just be.... well, animals.
Not gonna be a hipster about it - I think this slice of Americana actually lived up to the hype.

Godzilla KOTM: Liked this more than the first one because they at least showed a lot more actual monsters and not just in the overrun. No idea how Kong is gonna be able to compete with this shit considering what I just saw. Looooooved Skull Island way more than either Godzilla movie so that's a little disheartening. Nobody gives a shit about humans just give me a 2 hour Mike Tyson slugfest.

The Gentlemen
Another Guy Ritchie British gangster flick. This requires some rewatch, the dialogue is fast and cockney. It’s a damn good laugh all the way through especially if you’ve enjoyed Snatch - does it match up to Snatch? I doubt anything will, but it’s incredibly enjoyable.
King Arthur
More Ritchie and more Charlie Hunnam. This man needs to return to London full time and forget his awful American accent... he excels under Ritchie, more banter, more quick dialogue through keeps this so-so King Arthur story alive.
Chef
Easy viewing, a chef having a breakdown loses his job, is given a food truck, and drives across the south making sandwiches with his best friend and estranged son.
Nice movie. Starring at least 4 people from the MCU.

No documentary has made me cry as much or feel as many different emotions as Crip Camp, one of the most beautiful films I think I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Having a handicapped father probably makes it hit even closer to home. Without these people, people like my dad could possibly not have proper wheelchair accessibility to the world that we take for granted most days; I'd have to worry about him having to avoid sidewalks and settle for a goddamn road with moving vehicles constantly passing by. I both can and can't believe the lack of humanity some people showed the subjects of this film, and I know damn well it's still a problem in society today. I thought I understood my father's struggle and the struggle of so many mentally and physically handicapped individuals before this film, and I never, ever will unless I end up in that position one day myself -- but it's not every day you get to say a movie helped you understand something in the most humanly way possible.
I literally wish I could shake these people's hands and thank them for everything they did and never giving up. I have never been a letter writing person but this might finally change that. To put everything on the line like that, those who had more to lose than anyone and still take on and fight the government the way they did... fuck man, what the hell am I doing? What's my damn excuse? If you don't shed at least one tear during this movie, then I don't know what the hell is wrong with your soul. The Capitol Crawl scene at the end is enough on its own accord. Sorry if this seems a bit emotional, but like I said before -- it hits home.
10/10, easily.
EDIT: I shouldn't have to say this, but for those of you who are conservative -- disregard this being produced by Barack & Michelle Obama. Unless you're against liberty and freedom (which no American should be), you have nothing to worry about in terms of "propaganda" or anything. I just don't want anyone turning away from an inspiring and uplifting story like this simply based on political affiliation - I think shit like that is a true travesty, because stories like these deserve to be heard, no matter which wing of the bird you choose to perch on.
