I’m just watching it again. I work overnights and for whatever reason... it helps me fall asleep during the day. Just put on a pay per view and Fade out. I may have done that when I typed that comment because I don’t remember posting that.

He seemed to be on edge. He'd DM me every so often about some perceived transgression, and how he was considering walking away entirely because he was too old for this shit like PW's own Murtagh.

He also confided he had some really heavy shit happen outta the blue in his personal life recently, so he probably hasn't been in a great headspace.

Haven't seen it yet, but did listen to Talk Is Jericho with Martha Hart. Pretty good interview and discussion. Y2J raised the same point.

Had Owen lived, sounds like he and Martha had every legit intention of him being done and out by 40. So in theory, WM21 would be his last hoorah.

Can you imagine that renaissance of a run?

Feel like Y2J's debut year in the WWF is boosted by him most likely working Owen in an awesome program for the back half of 1999. I can see Owen campaigning for it based on their shared roots.

Kurt comes in and Owen takes him under his wing alongside Bob Backlund. Owen stands up for Kurt after Kurt gets choked out in Tazz's debut, and Owen has an awesome Tazz-elevating showing at No Way Out 2000. Edge & Christian, in the formation of their Team ECK friendship with Kurt, convince Kurt to ditch dorky Owen. Owen gets to work Edge, Christian, and maybe even faces Kurt in the 2000 KOTR finals.

Sub Owen in for Val in the mid 2000 IC Title stuff. Owen becomes a great opponent for Rikishi and Eddie. Somewhere in there you get killer filler matches with Owen against Malenko and Saturn, if not full-fledged mini programs.

Late 2000, turns out Owen was behind the wheel at Survivor Series 1999. He broke Austin's neck in 1997 and was trying to finish the job! The Hart family has ALWAYS hated Austin. We get the final Austin/Owen blow-off at Survivor Series 2000 before Austin moves into the WWF title hunt and feud with HHH.

Owen becomes a Benoit opponent to help turn Benoit face, and they produce possibly the best matches in the WWF since Austin/Bret.

Owen drops down the card a bit without much real direction, but happily mixes it up in comedy stuff with the likes of Al Snow, William Regal, and the APA. Owen helps Regal win the Commissioner job over Snow in exchange for being guaranteed a Lieutenant Commissioner gig. Owen abuses his power to beat Test for the European Title to avenge his buddy Regal.

Power hungry, Owen then somehow becomes the begrudging Hardcore Champion after defeating Raven or perhaps Big Show. With a new wrinkle to match environments, Owen is now having fun matches against the likes of Steve Blackman, Crash Holly, Hardcore Holly, Spike Dudley, Rhyno, and the Hardy Boyz.

Owen Two Belts is a thing until he tries to go after the IC belt Regal has been unsuccessfully chasing despite Regal's own abuses of power. Regal demotes/fires Owen, brings in Tajiri as his new right hand, and we get some Regal/Owen and Tajiri/Owen matches.

Then the invasion happens. Owen is a diehard WWF loyalist. We get Owen vs. Lance Storm, Mike Awesome, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam in notable matches.

As the invasion wears on though, Owen doesn't feel respected for his contributions. The Alliance tries to remind him how Vince screwed Bret and clearly hates the Hart family. Instead of defecting, Owen spearheads a third faction... STAMPEDE! In honor of all the promotions Vince has killed, but most specifically Owen's home promotion. It's an all Canadian factio, as Canadians get no respect. Owen leads with Test, Christian, and Lance Storm joining him. They try to recruit Edge and Y2J, but they remain face and separate from the group. Perhaps this leads to a second go-round of Owen feuding with Y2J and Edge.

At Survivor Series Owen wins the Immunity Battle Royal, and we'll try to remember that and actually make an angle out of it. Since he can't be fired, Vince tries to get him to quit. As a result of turning his back on the WWF, Owen (not Regal) is the first member of the Kiss My Ass Club.

Early 2002 is Owen mostly just floating. He has some low key midcard epics on TV with the likes of the returning Goldust, Mr. Perfect, and Val Venis. Maybe he has a stint as a Tough Enough trainer, and is Maven's first feud? Definitely does something fun with Hurricane.
