Pro-Wrestling WAVE announced at their show on may 14th that Ayako Hamada was arrested for substance abuse and is now in custody.

WAVE also released Ayako Hamada from her contract with the company due to her being taken into custody.

Recently Ayako Hamada had to cancel her title defense against DASH Chisako at Sendai Girl’s show at Azalea Taisho Hall in Osaka, Japan due to what she said was ‘health-related issues’. Sendai Girls announced after the show that Hamada had returned the belt.

According to others, Hamada has been running ragged for awhile and didn't look so good in her last few appearances. 

Hamada says his is her first time using whatever she was carrying with her.

I really hope she gets this straightened out. I was always hoping she would pop up in Impact again.

She announced her retirement after receiving an 18 month jail sentence.

A sad way for an amazing career to end. I feel lucky to have got to meet her and get to see her wrestle live. She was a sensational performer. Hopefully she can get herself sorted out and lead a positive post-wrestling life.

I think I read somewhere that it's actually a 3-year probation that turns into a 1 and a half year sentence if she gets caught again. Apparently, there was a confusion with the translation. 
Still, a sad way to go out, although with the Joshi scene the way it is now, any exit would have been somewhat anti-climactic.

I wonder if Impact can try and get Hamada to come back for a stint, she seems to be working a lot with Taya in Mexico and is also working with Tessa's boyfriend Daga. Hamada could have some really good matches with a lot of the roster.

Wouldn't that be great? The current situation at Impact would suit her far better than 10 years ago. She didn't seem very rusty in the match with Taya that I watched (apart from botching her finisher). 

At the very least she could make some appearances at the Mexico tapings which seem to be a regular thing now. I'm assuming her legal issues wouldn't affect her ability to work in the US but you never know...?
