It's Halloween season and that means Tales From The Crypt on the TV in my household. This is one of my favorite shows. What are some of your favorite episodes?

Love Tales, own all the seasons on DVD.
So many classic episodes, one of my favorites was unfortunately marred by the lead actor. It's called "Yellow," and while Kirk Douglas is of course amazing, the main character is sadly portrayed by the untalented Douglas brother, and is just a bad performance in an otherwise fantastic episode, with one of my favorite endings.
Also a big fan of the final episode,"the Third Pig," even if it somewhat feels like it doesn't belong.
Plus, the first movie was damn entertaining, remember when Billy Zane was a thing?

It's called "Yellow," and while Kirk Douglas is of course amazing, the main character is sadly portrayed by the untalented Douglas brother, and is just a bad performance in an otherwise fantastic episode, with one of my favorite endings. Also a big fan of the final episode,"the Third Pig," even if it somewhat feels like it doesn't belong. Plus, the first movie was damn entertaining, remember when Billy Zane was a thing? Yellow is one of the best episodes. Definitely plan on watching that one sometime over the next couple of weeks. Just thinking about Demon Night makes me think about stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut, when the movie came out on VHS was around the same time they first came out with stuff crust pizza, I remember renting that movie brand new and getting a stuffed crust for the first time, my life was changed forever. I liked Demon Night back in the day but I haven't seen it in ages. The actor from Demon Night William Sadler was in the very first episode, "The Man Who Was Death". I watched the first 2 episodes Sunday night. The Man Who Was Death wasn't that great, a former Electric Chair executioner gets fired after the state outlaws the chair. He goes vigilante killing criminals that got off the hook. He eventually gets caught and in a cruel twist of fate they reinstate the death penalty and he gets the chair. Sadler's monologues were good but this story was overall pretty mediocre. Not a great episodes but not a bad one by any means, I'd give it 2.5 StarsThe first season is only like 6 episodes long, with all six episodes airing in June 1989 on HBO. The second episode "And All Through The House" has always been one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. A maniacal axe wielding lunatic escapes a mental institution dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. A woman murders her husband to get his money and as she's trying to cover it all up she ends up being confronted by the axe murdering Santa. There's this cat and mouse game with the woman and the Santa trying to get inside the house, with the woman hesitant to call the police because of what she did to her husband. Then in the end the woman's daughter lets the maniacal Santa inside the house, the end is classic Tales From the Crypt as the daughter reveals to her mom that she let Santa in the house, easily one of the GOAT episodes, directed by Robert Zemeckis(Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away), 5 Stars. While looking up Zemeckis' movies I seen that he directed Death Becomes Her, a great dark comedy that was like one giant episode of Tales From The Crypt. He also directed Demon Night.

I haven't seen most of these in a really long time, but I remember liking these episodes:
Gambling with Lance Henrikson, the Morton Downey Jr, William Sadler as the Executionar, the Ventriloquist’s Dummy with Rickles and Bobcat, and the Joe Pantoliano nine lives circus episode.

I polished off season 1 last night. If you were only going to buy 1 season of Tales From The Crypt I think it should be the first season. There are only 6 episodes but for my money this was the show at it's best. Dig That Cat... He's Real Gone is the Joe Pantaliano episode where he gets the genes of a cat transplanted into his body so he can have 9 lives. I got to admit I really just don't like Joe Pantaliano for some reason, I don't really know why, maybe it's just that he plays characters that I really don't like in all of the movies/shows he's done. He ends up becoming a circus sideshow attraction but he ends up forgetting that they had to kill the cat to transplant the genes so he actually had 8 lives instead of 9, but he realizes it too late after he's been buried alive. I honestly wasn't real crazy about this one, it was cute but not one of my favorites, 2.5 Stars
The last half of season 1 brings the nostalgia for me. Back when I was a kid we rented WWF Royal Rumble 94 and a Tales From The Crypt tape that had Only Sin Deep, Lover Come Hack To Me, and Collection Completed on it. We ended up moving to another town without returning the tapes and we went about a month or so that Summer without cable so we watched Royal Rumble 94 and this Tales From The Crypt tape over and over again on a daily basis. Only Sin Deep is probably the weakest episode of the first season. 1.75 Stars
Lover Come Hack To Me is one I don't know what to think about. It's a weird story but it's the way it's told that is interesting. They really had no limitations with this show, there is one scene on this episode that is like some Red Shoe Diaries softcore porn sex scene. This was a weird episode but it was interesting enough to keep my attention all the way through, 3 Stars.
Collection Completed is one of my favorite episodes. Some great acting and a nice twisted little story, the whole episode just has a certain charm to it. The story is about an old couple where the wife is obsessed with her pets while the husband is a miserable old fuck who is just retiring and being driven over the edge by his wife's furry friends. This was an episode that brought some nice humor and charm with a great twist in the end. 4.5 Stars
Running list of my favorite episodes:
1. And All Through The House 2. Collection Completed 3. Lover Come Hack To Me

I watched a few episodes from season 2, For Cryin' Out Loud has Peggy from Married With Children. This was a wacky episode that has the voice of Sam Kinison and a cameo from Iggy Pop with a story about a promoter trying to rip off money from a "Save the Rain Forrest" benefit concert but he hears a voice in his head that drives him crazy. I can't say I liked this episode that much but it was kinda funny at times. 2.5 Stars
Four Sided Triangle is the episode about the demented couple living on a farm keeping a young woman hostage to do all of their labor for them. The husband is a creep that tries to rape the girl but she gets away into the cornfield where she sees the scarecrow come alive. This was one of the episodes I remember creeping me out as a kid. It's just a really well shot episode with some good performances from the actors and a good story. For this one I'd go 4 Stars, one of my favorites.
The Ventriloquist's Dummy was fucking crazy. This has Don Rickles and Bobcat Goldthwait and a really fucked up story with some excellent special effects. This episode was actually directed by Frank Darabont, the same guy who directed The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. This episode was over the top in all of the right ways, 5 Stars
Judy You're Not Yourself Today was not all that good. The story is about an old woman with a magic necklace that allows her to switch bodies with a younger woman. 2 Stars
Fitting Punishment was an interesting one about a crooked funeral parlor owner who has his nephew come to work and live with him. I liked this episode but it really wasn't that great, story was a bit generic but I still did like it. 3 Stars
Other great episodes from season 2 that I loved would be Cutting Cards and Threes A Crowd. Cutting Cards is about the gamblers who chop each other's fingers and limbs off, starring Lance Henrickson. Threes a Crowd is a really good episode with a great twist at the end. Both are two of my favorite episodes but I watched these last year so I didn't feel like watching them again.
Running list of my favorite episodes:
1. And All Through The House 2. The Ventriloquists Dummy 3. Collection Completed 4. Four Sided Triangle 5. Cutting Cards 6. Threes A Crowd 7. Fitting Punishment

Four Sided Triangle was great. I haven't thought about that episode in a couple of decades. Enjoying this thread.

Watched a couple of episodes from season 3 last night. Spoiled was kind of a funny episode about a boring house wife married to a doctor who is so obsessed with his work that he never pays her any attention. She ends up fucking around with the cable guy and they wake up one night and the doctor has switched their heads using a new anesthetic that he was working on while the cable guy was laying the pipe to his old lady. This was so fucking goofy. 2 Stars
And I rewatched Yellow. This episode gets a lot of love but honestly I didn't like it that much on this go around. It has a great chast with Lance Henrickson and Dan Akroyd along with Kirk Douglas. It also runs longer than a usual episode of Tales From The Crypt. The story wasn't all that great to me though, I'd give it 3.5 stars
Running list of my favorite episodes:
1. And All Through The House 2. The Ventriloquists Dummy 3. Collection Completed 4. Four Sided Triangle 5. Cutting Cards 6. Yellow 7. Threes A Crowd 8. Fitting Punishment

Going back to season 3 to check out some episodes I missed. I watched Carrion Death last night. This was a great episode starring Kyle MacLachlan as an escaped murderer who is on the run from the police. This has a great setting in the desert and the story is good. The escaped murderer has a showdown with a cop on his trail, he ends up killing the cop just as the cop handcuffs their hands together, but as the cop dies he swallows the key to the cuffs. So the murderer treks through the desert carrying the cop's dead body the whole way all while a vulture keeps following him. The ending is so great. This was a fantastic episode 5 Stars
The Trap is an episode directed by Micheal J Fox, he also makes an appearance as a prosecutor in the court scenes in the end. The story is about a guy who fakes his death to collect insurance money but his wife and brother get over on him in the end, not that great of an episode. 2.5 Stars
Abra Cadaver is one of my all time favorite episodes. This one stars Beau Bridges and that one guy from Ghost(Swayze's friend who has him killed) as doctors who play jokes on each other. Crazy little fucked up story that I always liked, 4.5 Stars
I watched Dead Wait and Top Billing but I was playing around on my laptop and didn't really pay much attention to them. These episodes weren't that great. Top Billing is a weird story starring John Lovitz as a washed up actor looking for work landing a gig in a Hamlet play, I honestly didn't care for this one at all, 1.5 Stars. Dead Wait guest stars Woopi Goldberg as a voodoo priestess, this one was a little better than Top Billing but still not that great, 2.5 Stars
One of my favorite episodes from this season that I did not watch on this go around is Mourning Mess starring that one dude from Wings(not Shaloub) and also Vincent Shiavelli from Ghost and the Sega CD FMV game Corpse Killer. This was a cool little episode about a reporter investigating the disappearances of homeless people around the city with a goofy little twist in the end that is a trademark of the series. 3.5 Stars
And I'm missing the best disc from season 4. I looked yesterday and couldn't find it. This disc had the best episodes from season 4 including the western themed "Showdown", "King of the Road" starring Brad Pitt, "Split Personality" starring Joe Pesci, and "Strung Along". I did watched Whats Cookin, another one of my favorite episodes from the series. This one stars Christopher Reeve aka Superman as a restaurant owner. The restaurant is not making any business and the landlord is on Reeves ass about paying his back rent. They end up killing the landlord and stuffing him into the freezer and hacking meat off his body to serve to the customers. It becomes a big hit and the business is booming. Seeing this episode(and Faces of Death) as a young kid was most likely partially responsible for my inability to eat beef. Overall just a really high quality episode with some good acting and a nice level of campiness to it. 5 Stars
And that's going to wrap this up for me, I only have the first 4 seasons on DVD! Maybe next year I'll pick up the rest and complete my collection.
My favorite episodes from the first 4 seasons:
1. And All Through The House 2. Whats Cookin' 3. The Ventriloquists Dummy 4. Carrion Death 5. Abra Cadaver 6. Collection Completed 7. Four Sided Triangle 8. Cutting Cards 9. King of the Road 10. Split Personality 11. Yellow 12. Threes A Crowd 13. Showdown

Oh shit, I just watched an excellent episode on Amazon instant video, I bought People Who Live In Brass Hearses from season 5 for $1.99. This one has Bill Paxton and Brad Dourif(the voice of Chucky), I don't want to give away too much of the story for anyone who hasn't seen it but this is a damn good episode, well worth a watch. This was actually the first time I've ever seen this one. Some great gore and a nice little twist in the end, great stuff.

I'm going to admit that I have never watched Tales From the Crypt despite its influence on Pop Culture. It was a little before my time when it aired. Seeing as it is not on HBO Go kills my motivation to watch as I don't want to track it down.
