I've said it before and I'll say it again , fuck Star Wars. I wanted to bad to not allow it because I've always heard it called a space opera (amongst other things) but figured that wouldn't be fair and I couldn't even begin to make an educated argument for it.
The fact its going to make it over the far more superior Road House is sad. Which is going to be a running theme for this countdown since my feelings are hurt.
Pretty sure Yoda never told anyone he used to fuck guys like them in prison.

Oh fucking boo this shit. What a church fart way to start this countdown.
I get that there's laser sword fights and spaceships fighting robots in the snow and blaster shootouts, but this still feels like the least action-y Star Wars movie. And it doesn't really feel 80s.
Where's a Iron Sheik loogie-hawk-spit sound effect when you need it?

It is what it is though and Star Wars gets mentioned very little in these countdowns so getting number ten here is a win I'm willing to take. I should have just pigeon holed Road House here out of principal.

I'll also say again , this ended up being tied with Marvel Movies as our most participated in list. It will also feature the highest 1st place point getting by a mile and a new Top Ten record. Even more impressive when you consider that the 2nd place movie is the highest 2nd place movie of all time.

Wait Road House didn't make the top ten?
(Storms out of thread)
I do like Star Wars though... or well, eight out of ten movies.

Road House was a final cut for me. Never even thought about Star Wars as an 80's action movie but im a Star Wars mark through and through, Empire is my least favorite out of the original trilogy, Ewoks ftw!!

Empire was #2 on my list. Suck it, jerks.
80s sci-fi went hand-in-hand with 80s action. At least 3 more movies on my list could be considered sci-fi as well, and I bet most if not all appear on your lists too.

Didn’t put it on my list because I see it more as sci-fi/fantasy then I do action.

T2: Judgment Day?
Yeah, I had to double check the release date on that one... awesome fucking movie. If we ever do a 90's action movie list, it'll be my number one for sure.
Well either that or Rocky V.

Didn’t put it on my list because I see it more as sci-fi/fantasy then I do action. Same here. If it were an overall 80's list it would have easily made my top 3. But when I think of "action movies" Star Wars doesn't register with me. Same with the Indiana Jones trilogy even though I love those movies to death. Road House was a late cut for me. I do enjoy it very much, but not as much as the other movies on my list.

Yeah no, Star Wars doesn't belong. Road House didn't really cross my mind but it would still rank behind the ten on my list. Indy did make my list out of appreciation for the 30's serial style action it paid tribute to. Not everything about 80's action was bazookas and machine guns.

Damn. I really wanted to get a list in for this one. And not just because doing so would have meant I'd be 2 for 2 in putting Rocky IV at #1 on these countdowns. Oh well. That's what I get for going out last night instead of staying home and working on a list. UT what do you mean by "three movie warning?" I was assuming/hoping that meant three days. I need to know for next time. 🤯 You're right on point with me being Big Trouble In Little China guy. How did you guess? Have I become that predictable? I was actually a BTILC disliker growing up. My brother spammed the hell out of that movie and I don't think I really 'got' it. Yeah, Big Trouble In Little China apparently went over my head  But now I love it. Jack Burton is a legend. Would have had it somewhere between #5-#7 had I been able to get a list in. Roadhouse also would have been a lock for my list, albeit a spot or two below Big Trouble. 80s Patrick Swayze was the man. Plus Terry Funk! I'm an original trilogy Star Wars enthusiast who even  loves the prequels (well, Episodes 2 & 3 anyway. 1 did kinda suck). So I was debating whether or not to include Empire (and Jedi) on my list. Love 'em. They're definitely action-y enough. But I'm not sure they really scream '80s' the way I'd want for this project. Empire could have been as high as #3, or it may not have made my list at all. Most likely would have included it though...somewhere. Honestly, my biggest problem with getting a list in for this project, apart from going out last night, was trying to determine what was an action movie and what wasn't. I spent entirely too much time on this question and not enough time getting down to business.

Anyway, that was exactly my BTILC trajectory too. And then this happens. And I'm feeling extra guilty about bumping Escape from LA to my #11 now. Damnit!

I just love your namesake's character so much, that's where most of my vote would've been coming from. LA probably doesn't crack my Top 50 of the 90s though.

If you would have shot me a message just saying your working on a list I would have held off.

I've never seen Commando , as this list will probably bear out: I'm not really an Arnie guy and I don't get the urge to ever go back and watch some of his classic stuff. I'm probably missing out on some great 80's cheese but I'm okay with that.
It would probably rank behind Suburban Commando in a list of movies with Commando in the name.

Commando is one of the most fun movie experiences I've ever had. The legendary one-liners that so many others tried to emulate and just couldn't, the iconic final scene that is one of the best in all 80s action flicks...and John Matrix is one of the all-time great action names.
Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired.

I had Commando in my 10 slot before dropping it for a movie that added a little more variety to my list for style and action star. It is meat and potatoes 80's action with all the over the top action and cheesy dialogue. Just Arnie in his element which is always fun to watch.

Commando is awesome and made #8 on my list. Critics often gush about how Scream satirized the horror genre and poked fun at itself, well Commando was doing that shit for action movies well over a decade before Scream came out. At no point does the movie EVER takes itself too seriously, with deliciously hammy dialogue and gloriously over the top action sequences. One couldn't be blamed for thinking the movie was action comedy with how hilarious it is in so many parts
The fact that this wonderful movie made it only made #8 on my list is further proof that the 1980's were the Golden Age of action flicks.

Commando is the epitome of Arnold cheese. It's so great. Couldn't have said it better myself. In general I find the cheesy action films to be eye-rollingly lame, but there's something about Arnie films that sets them apart and makes them super enjoyable. And Commando is the best of the bunch. Easy #1 placement.
