So if you’ve been following the other thread , I got the blessing from Baker to try and run a similar countdown idea that we have going in ET for the HOW - it’s going to be done the same way with sending me 10 and you guys will vote on the topic each time around.

*Disclaimer - you guys are going to have to help me once in awhile to make sure my WWE homer self don’t forget ECW and WCW stuff.

Anyways without further ado , our first set of topics to vote on:


Top Ten Masked Wrestlers
Top Ten Facepainted Wrestlers
Top Ten In Your House PPVs
Top Ten Gimmick Match Types

You know my fandom, facepaint.

Gimmick matches doesn't do much for me.

Facepainted and masked wrestlers would be cool.

But as an In Your House mark I have to go with that as my first option.

I'll second IYH as a way to kick this off.

Change of plans. Put me down for....facepainted wrestlers sounds good.

The In Your House’s become a mass morass of mediocrity after about the Top 4 or 5. From then on even the “best” of them are just one match shows. Too much thinking. Facepainted wrestlers should be easy.

Face paint but is it wrestler with the best face paint or best wrestler wearing face paint? I'd much rather go with best face paint.

Fine, I'll crumble under peer pressure. Face paint! Not sure about whether best face paint or best wrestler to wear face paint though...

It clearly says top ten face painted wrestlers.

Would we have to dedicate separate spots for each Road Warrior, or can face painted tag teams just be a single spot? I'd prefer the latter just to hopefully get more wrestlers on the overall top ten to discuss. But I'll give Animal his own spot if I'm forced too...

This is awesome! I’m glad UT is extending his countdowns to this sub. I enjoy reading the movie countdowns even though I rarely participate.

I’ll be working on a list for this.

There's some pretty obvious picks for facepainted wrestlers - guys like Sting, Warrior, Hawk, Animal, Crush, Ax, Smash, Muta, Goldust etc. but here's a few that some people may not even be aware of.

Tama Tonga - Haku's son and the best heel in all of NJPW (sorry Emp), Tonga's Ghostface inspired look was one of the coolest visuals in all of Pro Wrestling circa the 2010s.

Pentagon Jr - He's like the Max Fischer of the inaugural countdown, best masked wrestler? Best facepainted wrestler? Why not both? Pentagon Jr stole the hearts of every Pro Wrestling fan in 2014 when he became one of the break-out stars of Lucha Underground. You don't have to take my word for it, the Masked Texan Assassin himself ShinobiMusashi agrees with me and if there's one thing about Shin, the man tells no lies. Pentagon Jr ladies and gentleman, the best Halloween costume Chris Jericho ever wore.

Damien 666 - It's 1am in a quiet Mexican street and you're drunkenly stumbling around trying to catch up with your group of compadres. You receive a tap on your shoulder, turn around and see this speciman of a man looking at you. What do you do? Damien 666, the stuff of nightmares, but also one of the best dressed members of the LWO, which is saying something when you've got La Parka aka the original Marc Jacobs standing right there beside him. Want to know why Sting changed to red and black? There's your answer, you don't even try to stand up next to Damien.

Samoa Joe - When you turn a high school prank into a gimmick. Draw a penis on my face? Fuck you, I'll still get over. I can't blame any of you going the 'cute' route albeit this is the worst face-paint design in the history of the biz. If it was up to me, Joe would be the guy walking out of the Elimination Chamber as WWE Champion.

Who said anything about Jay White? Nobody pisses people off more than Tonga and he's the one NJPW guy that the fans don't beat themselves silly over. In NJPW it goes Tonga first, Gedo second and Dave Meltzer's star ratings third.

- Top Ten David vs Goliath type matches (Seth vs Brock)


I hope some of those aren't confusing , I have in mind what they mean. 

I'm voting for wrestling families , I think the top ten would be kind of a given but the order of them could create some fun discussions and rankings. It's a countdown I've thought about for awhile in my own mind.

David vs Goliath or Monster vs Small guy matches is one of my favorite stories to tell in a ring. So it'd be #2.

The other two I'm fine with as well.

The Sledges said it best when they sang "We Are Family".

It also gives us a golden opportunity to discuss the greatest Mexican family of all-time. They produced some of the all-time great matches and truly showed what it meant to be a warrior. Obviously I'm talking about:

While everybody was doing the Marcerena or the Locomotion, I was doing the La Parka strutt. (H)

Jay White pisses people off more than Tonga. Tonga is too irrelevant to be the best heel in anything. He tried hard to ruin every single one of his G1 matches (and Fale's matches) to get the heat, and he did get the boos of the crowd, but it wasn't entertaining and he remained an afterthought after the G1. Then Jay White, a much better heel, becomes the leader of his stable. Go figure. The fans don't beat themselves silly over Tonga because he's not very good. Not because he's the best heel in the company.

Jay White is booked to be the best heel, Tonga actually is.

Again, this really has nothing to do with Jay who has plenty of talent and is going to look great when he tucks his chin in for the Rainmaker, brother. However in the opportunities he gets, Tonga actually pisses people off. It's just that he's been pidgeon holed which NJPW is notorious for.

Anywho I'll save the best promotion/thread hijacks for another day. Right now I just want you to bask in a future Two Time PW CountDown Hall of Famer.

I find Injury Angles the most intriguing of those latest options. No idea where I'd go after #1 but it will be fun to find out!

That might of been a little ambitious from me , researching it - Bret’s 1994 Royal Rumble one. Shawn Michaels concussion problems were serious as can be for me in the 90s. Also the Hulk/Earthquake one is epic.

Shawn's concussion problem was the first thing I thought of. That would be my #1 with a bullet. I was so into that storyline. 

I thought it would be tough after that. Nah. I got to 10, or nearly there, during the course of one deep-thinking shower  :lol: Now it's taking all my willpower not to share them all. 

Sting's leg would be my number 1. But it was a legit injury so would that count?

Thanks Shootist & Baker-man for the PMs with recommendations. While that does help fill my head somewhat, I'm still not sure I'm on board. Still gonna vote families, I guess.
