You would assume in valuing a business, it would be a total of all assets minus liabilities, debt, etc. I haven't signed up to my Luke Belmar International Business class, so don't hold my ignorance against me - but I'm sure the likely billion dollars in cash TK runs to offset his losses would be part of that evaluation. Look before I start, you got to know I just Googled this stuff and Im in no way an expert on this. But an owner’s personal wealth and investment typically aren’t considered in the valuation process. It can… but it’s contingent on some things. Mainly the owner’s commitment and potential for future growth and other means for capital. Unless I’m mistaken, they can’t give a positive valuation on his investments alone. There has to be some sort of belief that there is coming a day soon when it won’t be needed. I’m guessing the person signing off on this is seeing a positive climb in profit and seen something firsthand from television rights negotiations. I absolutely could be wrong about all that though. I’m not a business finance guy.

NBA will leave the exclusive rights window for WBD and Disney with no deal made. NBA is looking for 48 billion as a floor for a 10 year deal, double what Disney and WB pay now. A deal may be made still but more partners will need to be added, which dilutes the power any one group has as they either share the games, or compete for which games each group gets with each group getting only some of the big games.
Very likely this will mean moving forward AEW is WBD's top sports property and Tony should easily get his media rights deal that turns AEW profitable, and moves them away from relying on US ratings for metrics as part of the deal will be streaming. Tony made it clear he wants that as part of a future media deal.

They still have other sports properties it isn't like the will make AEW their favorite one. It actually hurts WBD which in turns hurts AEW. The station can charge its price to cable companies because of the NBA. The stations will seem less valuable for consumers so will probably call for a lower price.

I expected AEW to be valued in the range of just under or just over $1 billion, so hearing Forbes has it at twice that is a nice surprise.
I'm dying for the media deal to be announced though, partly because I want to know what it is and if streaming will be involved, and mostly because they've been mentioning it for like a year now and I want them (Tony) to shut up about it.

There was a report I think around last year that valued it around 800m-1b and I thought that sounded about right. Quite how that has doubled when key performance indicators have declined and no new rights deal has been agreed, I’m not sure. Forbes has a lot of experience with these things but it’s important to remember that valuations of private business that aren’t for sale are highly subjective and theoretical. That’s not to say the 2b isn’t right. It might be 2b, or less, or more, but it’s really just a guess, albeit from a trusted organisation.

Not my area, but I also felt 2 billion felt high. And agree, likely as a private company it is because the brand is being considered worth more than the free market would likely pay if traded publicly. True price is really whatever Tony would sell it for.

They do have other sports properties but not ones drawing the overall ratings that AEW is in multiple time slots. AEW is one of their best performers overall as well they state in all of their earning reports to shareholders. As for value of WBD, well their stock price says it all. Down 27 percent as a whole this year, 41% from a year ago, 65% from five years ago. They are no Fox or USA which is why they are giving Tony what he wants. They know they will not number 1 on cable but Tony helps them break into the top 5 some nights for the category and gives 150+ shows a year. Cost per show ends up extremely low for the network. Why wrestling is considered a money maker for original content.

I hate to say this because the dude doesn’t deserve any praise. But WWE’s value was higher with Vince at the helm. It’s not because of Vince per day. But company values typically wane when there is a change of leadership. Investors become more finicky when there is a change of leadership out of fear that new leadership won’t be able to keep the ship going in the same direction.it won’t always be that way. If WWE continues to grow its business, its value will only increase.
And you’re right. None of us really know what’s involved in a valuation. Sometimes, it just comes down to a person’s opinion of the potential of a growing company based off the evidence they’ve seen.

Was higher under Vince since the value was solely based on itself. Now it is weirdly linked to UFC and Endeavor until the close of the Silver Lake and Endeavor deal. Number have to be weird though when one publicly traded company owns half of another one. Feels like that would led to several different ways to calculate the value of WWE.

The only $2 billion chat is from Dave. Trying to say that $1 billion was generous. And then it ends up on Forbes.
Honestly, what assets other than contracts do AEW have? An inheritance doesn’t count.
But what do I know I’m just trying to enjoy wrestling?!
PS: ratings back on the menu! Go eat!

But what do I know I’m just trying to enjoy wrestling?! PS: ratings back on the menu! Go eat! Assets can be a ton of things. The wrestlers that are under contract. The current television deal. Merchandise. Ability to book arenas. Fans turnout. Brand value. Advertisers locked in. They consider all those things. I don’t think most people think AEW is worth 2 billion. I don’t think anyone would buy it for 2 billion. But that’s ok, Tony isn’t selling it so it doesn’t really matter.

Longer than that. Usually people will report on when people are released before they appear elsewhere though.

Who called it, Broken Matt in TNA. Guess he is done with AEW too. Knew that was Reby doing the video.
I am guessing we will not see Jeff again in AEW. If they did not push him with Matt, they will not push him without Matt. I imagine Tony cuts his loses and let TNA have Nero back as no point in keeping him if you do not plan to use him.
Meanwhile with the AEW guys and WWE guys, TNA getting a nice little roster again. Imagine they will be pushing for Jinder and crew too. Nice recovery it seems from the drama of D'Amore's firing. Also wonder, do Edge and Christian now end their careers there to do the final match with Hardyz? May be able to still get Devon out for another match next year or so too.

4 year anniversary of the first and only 10 star prowrestling match. I can't believe I decided to play that video. I can't believe I actually enjoyed it. That was fun. The pool spot was the highlight. Concluding the match with "I'm sorry, I love you" brought a tear to my eye. Can't believe that'd not been done before. If that was four years ago, that would make it the first pandemic cinematic match, right?

Reports are Jeff Hardy's contract is up soon. Tony can simply not extend things for the time off, and even if they decide to make him sit out, he will be gone sooner rather than later.

Kenny Omega will be at the May 1st Dynamite in Winnipeg.
Tony said in the media scrum on Sunday that he hoped to have Omega for the Canadian shows, and wanted him to return in Winnipeg. Omega recently talked about still needing surgery on a twitch stream, so this definitely isn’t a full time return, but also unlikely he is announcing his retirement.
Probably get an update and a “I don’t know how long, but I’ll be back!” speech.

I like it. In the day when all belts look the same, that one at least stands out by being ugly. There will be no confusing the AEW and IWGP titles if Mox has both.
I reserve the right to take this back if Mox gets that designed tattooed on his neck though <.<

Likely a miss post of Perry arriving that should have been in the party thread.
Absolutely crazy how many places covered the TK Driver Khan took. NFL site did a story, Fox had a story, etc.
I kind of hope Tony takes a step back into the shadows after this and lets the Bucks do the press for a while.
