This finally opened in Australia so very surprised this hasn’t been mentioned on PW already. I know 1RealSmartAlex has seen it but that’s about it. Nonetheless incredible film, can be enjoyed by non wrestling fans as a look at the pressure families especially fathers can put on their children. But it’s obviously a film catered towards wrestling fans and a tragic story. I only spotted Chavo, MJF & Silas Mason but I’m sure there’s more real life wrestlers in the film. The attention to detail in all scenes were incredible and you can tell the filmmakers knew their stuff. Like all based on a true story films it’s not 100% factual but they still did a tremendous job. All performances were fantastic and Zac Efron was perfect for his role. Not only did he commit to the role physically but he obviously felt with fame also. Rating 10/10 If you’ve seen it what your thoughts?

I haven’t seen it yet but want to. I read they wrote out one of the younger brothers who killed himself because there was just so much death that it would overwhelm the audience and can come off as not believable that so many bad things happened.

I cried like Nancy Kerrigan. Even the ‘happy’ brother moments I found myself getting sad because I knew roughly what happens.
Brilliant performances, especially by Zac Efron but so many punches right to the heart.

Yeah, Chris Von Erich isn’t depicted in the film. That's unfortunate because it's another layer to this story as Chris is the one that wanted to be a wrestler so bad, but due to some health constraints didn't have the size and the athleticism the others did. I think a lot of people could have related to that and it would have added to the pressures of living up to this Dynasty and feeling like you'd fallen short. I remember watching the Last of the Von Erichs on Dark Side of The Ring (Season 1 Episode 4...I think) and just listening in disbelief to Kevin and others recounting the stories this family went through. I didn't know much about them up here in Canadia so it was wild to me to see/hear how big they were in Texas. My mom actually sat and watched it with me and pretty much cried the whole way through. It was just unreal to think of all that Kevin had gone through, you could read it in his face; see it in his eyes, but I really thought they did an excellent job showing Kevin's lowest point and the hope that bloomed from that and his tragedies and the peace in which he now finds himself in nature and with his family. I'm really hoping the movie does the same. I know lots of non wrestling fans who've seen this and really enjoyed it, but I know Kevin doesn't agree with the portrayal of Fritz and he does not believe in a family 'curse' so they definitely took creative license with that part.

Spoilers ahead but again this is about the real life story of the Von Erich’s.
Someone else pointed this out but I think it would have been too much for the casual audience unfamiliar with the story and seem too over the top to have 3 suicides in the film despite that being the case in real life.

I believe they removed Chris’s story, and about David’s child passing away, and not including Kerry’s children because they felt for casual movie goer who didn’t know the true story - would be too sad and unbelievable.
Like the fact it’s a TRUE story about a family and they are like nah it’s too sad people won’t believe it, like damn.
Though I also feel like they show some deaths in the movie close together (they indicate a lot of time has gone on) when in real life they were further apart so maybe it would have been believable if they showed the transition of time rather than jump the time BUT also maybe they wanted to keep the duration short.
I don’t think there is any right or wrong when it comes to what should have or shouldn’t have been included. I personally think they did a phenomenal job, even with leaving Chris out, though it does hurt the heart that he didn’t get the same recognition as the others.
I hope fans of the movie do a bit more research on the family, and know what happened, and at least have peace with the fact that Kevin is happy and has his sons/grand kids and there is happiness to be found after such a devastating and heartbreaking life for him

He has 4 kids (His first 2 kids were actually his daughters) and 11 grandkids. That's a hell of a dynasty right there.

“I used to be a brother.”
And with that, KJ sobbed like a baby in the theater.
