The Beauty Behind the Madness The Weeknd (2015) Genre: alternative R&B, pop Runtime: 65:06 Track list 1. Real Life 2. Losers 3. Tell Your Friends 4. Often 5. The Hills 6. Acquainted 7. Can’t Feel My Face 8. Shameless 9. Earned it 10. In the Night 11. As You Are 12. Dark Times 13. Prisoner 14. Angel While TV Shows may not be his forte, music definitely has been for Abel Tesfaye best known as the The Weeknd going from releasing music on YouTube in 2009 with his identity concealed to a household name. Having his music played at several sporting events and big productions, going on 5 Wrestlemanias this year. Compared to Michael Jackson a lot vocally, I’d compare this also to Craig David’s Born to Do It just a lot more explicit for modern audiences. The Weeknd is unapologetic yet self-aware about his lifestyle and vices throughout this album detailing drug fueled nights and romances in a much more graphic way. I’d heard rumblings about The Weeknd prior to this and while this is his second album after releasing 2013’s Kissland and a series of mixtape before this. However this is the album that definitely put The Weeknd on the map and deservedly so. Favourite Tracks are Real Life, Angel, Shameless and I Can’t Feel My Face which infamously got a kid’s choice award nomination.

Reign in Blood Slayer (1986) Genre: Thrash Metal Runtime: 28:55 Track List 1. Angel of Death 2. Piece by Piece 3. Necrophobic 4. Altar of Sacrifice 5. Jesus Saves 6. Criminally Insane 7. Reborn 8. Epidemic 9. Postmortem 10. Raining Blood Thematic all the way through, incredibly compact with not a second wasted only clocking in at 28:55 and having the opening and closing track being two of the greatest metal songs of all time there’s not anything more I could have asked for from this album.

You Won’t Get What You Want Daughters (2018) Genre: Experimental Rock Runtime: 48:40 Track List 1. "City Song" 5:55 2. "Long Road, No Turns" 5:04 3. "Satan in the Wait" 7:06 4. "The Flammable Man" 2:09 5. "The Lords Song" 2:45 6. "Less Sex" 4:47 7. "Daughter" 4:55 8. "The Reason They Hate Me" 3:55 9. "Ocean Song" 7:28 10. "Guest House" 4:29 I think between this thread and all the WWE stuff this week I’ve come to terms with all the art I enjoy is made by terrible people. It’s a Conspiracy 😒. I first heard of this album via theneedledrop’s YouTube channel, as mentioned in Ness’ thread I rarely agree with Fantano but have given all his 10/10s a listen. This is the only Of One I agree is a 10. As interesting instrumentally as In The Aeroplane Over the Sea and another album much higher on this list. The Lyrics are just as good with some lyrics I really enjoyed the deep dive into. An unrelentingly bleak album that manages to do so without going into cheesy territories like some death and black metal albums tend to do. One of the most unique albums that I’ve enjoyed.

***** KMFDM (1997) Genre: Industrial Rock Runtime: 56:34 Track List 1. Megalomaniac 2. Stray Bullet 3. Leid Und Elend 4. Mercy 5. Torture 6. Spit Sperm 7. Anarchy 8. Down and Out 9. Unfit 10. Waste If you’re not familiar with this genre of music I’m guessing you either know of KMFDM via the Mortal Kombat soundtrack or Columbine. Frustratingly referred to as “Symbols” by fans and the band despite being five letters (Most KMFDM albums have a five letter name) this is KMFDM’s best work of the albums I’ve heard, narrowly beating out WWIII for my taste. That being said KMFDM have released 23 albums including one in the last few days so could be a new one by the time I finish this list. Nonetheless this is KMFDM at their best with brilliant tracks like “Megalomaniac” “Stray Bullet” and “Anarchy”. KMFDM are definitely a band not known for variety but this was them at their absolute peak.

Can't say I am a huge fan but I listen to KMFDM every once in a blue, couple of good songs from them. Sucks for them they're known as the "School shooter music band" since a lot of lone wolf school shooters end up either listening to their music or take inspiration from their music to do their acts. Pretty messed up.

I never got into those guys I only know of them because of the Columbine Kids. To go back a few, 1989 is one of the few actual albums I've listened to all the way through (probably about 20-30 TOPS that can say that) and while it isn't perfect for my taste, I'd say a good 70% is.
I know some Weeknd songs thanks to that fabulous device called the RADIO. No idea if any of the ones I know (by sound not title) were from the CD you talked about.
I *TRIED* to listen to that Leviathan album. I really did.
That's all I got.

The Fame Lady Gaga (2008) Genre: Electropop Runtime: 50:20 Track list 1. Just Dance 2. LoveGame 3. Paparazzi 4. Beautiful, Dirty, Rich 5. Eh, Eh, (Nothing Else I Can Say) 6. Poker face 7. The Fame 8. Money Honey 9. Again Again 10. Boys Boys Boys 11. Brown Eyes 12. Summerboy I couldn’t decide where to place this alongside Drake & Future’s “What a time to be Alive” but then I discovered it’s classed as a “commercial mixtape” and doesn’t count for this list on a technicality. Great “mixtape” though. Nonetheless this is an incredible pop album, a non PG version of 1989 with going to much more explicit places than said album. There is multiple hits throughout this album with tracks 1,2,3 and 6 all being huge hits but the deep cuts on this are great too with “Summerboy” being my favourite among them. While Lady Gaga branched out to find herself as a more unique artists as far as heavily manufactured and produced pop albums go this is one of the best.

Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine (1992) Genre: Rap Metal Runtime: 52:55 Track list 1. "Bombtrack" 4:02 2. "Killing in the Name" 5:14 3. "Take the Power Back" 5:36 4. "Settle for Nothing" 4:49 5. "Bullet in the Head" 5:08 6. "Know Your Enemy" 4:57 7. "Wake Up" 6:06 8. "Fistful of Steel" 5:32 9. "Township Rebellion" 5:22 10. "Freedom" 6:06 RATM before they went political 😒. Seriously I have no idea how some people are just know learning RATM are a political band, but that’s a rant for OT. The book “Atlas Shrugged” I absolutely loved and I don’t agree with a lot of its ideas. Too young to be be into RATM when this came out considering I was only 1 year old and more concerned with napping than rebelling against the System I was introduced to RATM through Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 with “Guerrilla Radio” from “The Battle of Los Angeles” album which is also good but this album takes the cake IMO + I own this on CD. Much like another album higher up on this list this intense political charged music that puts forth a powerful message with fantastic music and vocals to back it up. De La Rocha raps with great conviction and it’s cool to see MJK have a feature as well. Brilliant debut and years ahead of their time.

Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You 9. Lay Down 10. Balloon? 11. The Golden Ball 12. Built in a Bottle Goon Moon consisting of Chris Goss and Jeordie White (aka Twiggy Ramirez) released “I got a brand new egg Layin’ Machine” which is awful and isn’t worth your time and this which definitely is. Just do yourself a favour and skip the first 10 seconds which sounds like a creaky door being opened in a really grating manner  This is such a fun and bizarre album that takes clear inspiration from 70s music (& earlier) and bands the duo group of listening to. Surprised this got seemingly no comments upon its release due to Jeordie’s association with countless bands but I guess this gave them creative freedom rather than be seen as the offspring of a Marilyn Manson project as the only Manson project that sounds even remotely close to this is Portrait of an American Family and that’s even a stretch. Features Josh Homme and (future) Death Grip’s drummer Zach Hill also

Everybody Hates You Combichrist (2005) Genre: Aggrotech/EBM Runtime: 68:00 Tracklist 1. "This Shit Will Fcuk You Up" 4:45 2. "Enjoy the Abuse" 5:14 3. "Today I Woke to the Rain of Blood" 5:45 4. "I'm Happy Anyway" 5:11 5. "Blut Royale" 5:33 6. "Who's Your Daddy, Snakegirl?" 6:23 7. "Feed Your Anger" 4:50 8. "God Bless" 4:28 9. "Happy Fucking Birthday" 4:47 10. "This Is My Rifle" 4:58 11. "Like to Thank My Buddies" 6:18 12. "Lying Sack of Shit" 5:01 13. "Without Emotions" 4:40 Like Tame Impala this is a one man project (with a touring band) with Icon of Coil founder Andy LePlegua behind all studio sessions. Perhaps best known to PW as the band that did the DMC: Devil May Cry soundtrack (No Redemption). One of the few bands I enjoy that are clearly designed for a live setting and to be enjoyed in a goth club rather than chilling at home or on your commute. My wrestling trainer saw them live and was looking for people to go with but sadly I didn’t have the funds at the time. I originally discovered them via a fan edited video of “Blut Royale” with the film “Battle Royale” spliced in back in the Death Watch days but unsurprisingly it’s been taken down now YouTube isn’t the Wild West anymore. Much like another band coming up on the list electro-industrial music mixed with samples from films and other works makes for an impactful listen. I’d recommend 2007’s “What the fuck is wrong with you people?” Also.

Money Shot Puscifer (2015) Genre: Alternative Rock Runtime: 51:36 Tracklist 1. "Galileo" 5:17 2. "Agostina" 4:24 3. "Grand Canyon" 5:57 4. "Simultaneous" 6:42 5. "Money Shot" 2:32 6. "The Arsonist" 4:45 7. "The Remedy" 6:07 8. "Smoke and Mirrors" 5:05 9. "Life of Brian (Apparently You Haven't Seen)" 4:41 10. "Autumn" 6:06 *there’s an iTunes exclusive track called Flippant which I only heard for the first time today re-listening to this (via Apple Music), I’m glad it isn’t on the original version While I get that Puscifer isn’t intended to be taken too seriously it’s a shame that a lot of people just see it as a joke band, first featured as a fictional band on “Mr.Show.” Between the band name, the ridiculous album covers and joke tracks that tend to be the singles you can’t be blamed for not thinking Puscifer has some serious and fantastic tracks. I remember telling a co-worker I saw them live and she’s like “what’s the band name again?” Better than saying I saw Dying Fetus live I guess  I’ve seen Puscifer live twice both in theatre style setting where you had to stay seated and I honestly loved it. The second show was much more of a production with live pro lucha libre all through it, which at the time I wasn’t thrilled about as I was watching enough wrestling but the cardio they had was next level as they probably wrestled for an hour or so. Don’t have any footage of this as if you dare film any of Tool or Puscifer’s shows back then you’d get a hurricanrana. It was a hard time picking between this and “Conditions of my Parole” with Money Shot just slightly coming in first. Agostina, Smoke and Mirrors are great and The Arsonist is the highlight of the album. The Arsonist in question? Beavis of Beavis and Butthead fame on the surface level (and Trump when you dig deeper.) If you’ve had enough of Maynard’s voice considering this is the third band he is the vocalist of, Carina Round also contributes vocally and does an incredible job.

Hybrid Theory Linkin Park (2000)
Genre: Nu-Metal Runtime: 37:08 Tracklist 1. Papercut 2. One Step Closer 3. With You 4. Points of Authority 5. Crawling 6. Runaway 7. By Myself 8. In the End 9. A Place for my Head 10. Forgotten 11. Cure for the Itch 12. Pushing me Away System Senior was off on his daily log and finds a CD on the road so he just decides to keep it. He brings it home not expecting it to work but we give it a try anyway. Said CD? Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park and it worked perfectly. Myself and my mate were thrilled after seeing One Step Closer on Rage & video hits all the time. Excellent debut with Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda playing off each other perfectly. While I’m unapologetically a nu metal fan I think even most music snobs can admit Linkin Park were something special. I even liked One More Light before even switched up on it, bigger fan than Jerry Jackson😒. Meteora is also a brilliant album. As for this album A Place for my head, In the End, Points of Authority and the aforementioned One Step Closer.

Gallery of Suicide Cannibal Corpse (1998) Genre: Death Metal Runtime: 44:13 1. I Will Kill You 2. Disposal of the Body 3. Sentenced to Burn 4. Blood Drenched Execution 5. Gallery of Suicide 6. Dismembered and Molested 7. From Skin to Liquid 8. Unite the Dead 9. Stabbed in the Throat 10. Chambers of Blood 11. Headless 12. Every Bone Broken 13. Centuries of Torment 14. Crushing the Despised Chill easy listening for the whole family! Surprisingly only the first album cover on this list I’ve had to censor so far I remember people in high school trying to stupidly one up each other on how “metal” and edgy the music they listened to could get. Cannibal Corpse would frequently come up in conversation and while I enjoy their music the shock factor is definitely what drew me in. Just the right amount of cheesy Cannibal Corpse act as the musical equivalent of something like Fulci’s Zombie 2. Absolute gorefest.

Wreath of Barbs :wumpscut: (2001) Genre: Electro-Industrial Runtime: 55:00 Tracklist "Opening the Gates of Hell" – 4:08 "Deliverance (Album Mix)" – 4:43 "Wreath of Barbs (Album Mix)" – 5:23 "Dr. Thodt" – 4:42 "Mankind's Disease" – 5:10 "Christfuck" – 5:24* "Troops Under Fire" – 4:58 "Line of Corpses" – 4:42 "Hate Is Mine" – 4:27 "Bleed in Silence" – 6:00 "Eclipse (Kaelte Container Remix)" – 5:12 I’m glad “Women and Satan first” isn’t my favourite :wumpscut; album I discovered the track Wreath of Barbs via Limewire (same with Venus Blue by Acid Bath) and was instantly hooked and wanting to hear more of :wumpscut:. While I’ve barely scratched the surface of :wumpscut: ‘s 18 album discography I’ve liked what I’ve heard this far this being my favourite. It’s similar to Combichrist in that it’s a one man project (no live shows though) and explores darker themes with an electronic sound but much less danceable than the former. Favourite tracks are Troops Under Fire, Deliverance and Wreath of Barbs

Tha Carter IV Lil Wayne (2011) Genre: Hip-Hop Runtime: 60:25 Tracklist 1. Intro 2. Blunt Blowin 3. MegaMan 4. 6 Foot 7 Foot 5. Nightmares of the Bottom 6. She Will 7. How to Hate 8. Interlude 9. John 10. Abortion 11. So Special 12. How to Love 13. President Carter 14. It’s good 15. Outro “Real G’s move in silence like lasagna” The greatest line in the history of rap and possibly music is uttered on this album. While Tha Carter III is considered Wayne’s crowning achievement I’d easily put this (and Tha Carter V) over it. 6 foot 7 foot is amazing and a track I’d use to test out my beats headphones back in the day which I considered a prized possession  as the Inception inspired video is cool also. I know a lot of people get tired of Wayne’s Jeopardy style of bars but I think they are incredibly amusing. I used to not like albums with heavy features as I never really understood that’s just how hip-hop is but no one is wasted here and as everyone from Andre 3000 to Jadakiss. Several tracks on this album are still in heavy rotation for me aside from the aforementioned 6”7”, John, Nightmares of the Bottom, She Will and President Carter are also played frequently. I considered doing a full Wayne discography thread before the 100 album thread but it would also be time consuming counting mixtapes as he has 29 mixtapes, one collaborative album and 13 studio albums. Maybe one fine day I’ll listen to them all but today Tha Carter IV will have to do. Fun fact: as of 2012, lil Wayne has more songs on the billboard hot 100 than Elvis. (Drake has the most ever at 328 as of writing, who is also on this album)

Currents Tame Impala (2015)
Genre: psychedelic pop Runtime: 51:12 Tracklist 1. "Let It Happen" 7:46 2. "Nangs" 1:47 3. "The Moment" 4:15 4. "Yes I'm Changing" 4:30 5. "Eventually" 5:19 6. "Gossip" 0:55 7. "The Less I Know the Better" 3:38 8. "Past Life" 3:47 9. "Disciples" 1:48 10. "'Cause I'm a Man" 4:02 11. "Reality in Motion" 4:12 12. "Love/Paranoia" 3:10 13. "New Person, Same Old Mistakes" 6:03 “DiD YoU KnOW TaMe ImPaLa Is JuSt OnE PerSon?” Just slightly less insufferable fan base than another band coming up on this list. I got see Tame Impala live (with a touring band) a year or so ago and I really enjoyed it despite only really enjoy this and The Slow Rush. The entire time album was created solely by Kevin Parker and is a departure from earlier sounds of Tame Impala. Despite seeing this album on prominent display in any music store I’d walk into I’d avoid it as it just seemed like it was solely for people that live in Newtown. I think this was featured in a best album covers thread or something? Well if you haven’t already, give it a listen while admiring said cover. I finally gave it a listen and fell in love with it, the tracks let it happen, the less I know the better and the incredible new person, same old mistakes which was worth the price of admission to hear live. I’m normally drawn to bold personalities in music (I guess in contrast as I’m perceived as a quiet person?) but’s it’s the opposite with Tame Impala. Kevin Parker’s interviews you can tell he isn’t really interested in them and normally gives dull explanations of songs so I just imagine the meanings behind certain tracks being much more nuanced . Still an incredibly talent musician.

22 Revolutionary, Vol 2 Immortal Technique (2003) Genre: Political Hip-Hop Runtime: 67:46 Track List 1. Revolutionary Intro 2. The Point of No Return 3. Peruvian Cocaine 4. Harlem Streets 5. Obnoxious 6. The Message and the Money 7. Industrial Revolution 8. Crossing the Boundary 9. Sierra Maestra 10. The 4th Branch 11. Internally Bleeding 12. Homeland and Hip-Hop 13. The Cause of Death 14. Freedom of Speech 15. Leaving the Past 16. Truth’s Razors 17. You Never Know 18. One (Remix) The follow up to the also great “Revolutionary, Vol 1” which Tech originally sold at shows with no distribution. However if I see one more reaction channel of someone overreacting to Dance in the Devil I will lose it. Does anyone else got those videos in their feed? “Guy hears (extremely popular song) for the first time” when even a newborn baby will hear after a week on earth? I know I’m going on a rant but if you like rants, especially politically charged then you’d absolutely love this album. Release during the George W years Tech takes aim at everyone in sight citing his frustration and disgust with world politics, music labels and everything in between. While the lyrics are hyperbolic they are undeniably brutal and Tech raps with such conviction that the graphic lyrics don’t come across as simply shock value. Production is up to par also and makes for a powerful listen. If you like Rage Against the Machine or Brother Ali I’d give this a listen.

Damn Kendrick Lamar (2017) Genre: conscious hip-hop Runtime: 54:54 Track list 1. BLOOD 2. DNA 3. YAH 4. ELEMENT 5. FEEL 6. LOYALTY 7. PRIDE 8. HUMBLE 9. LUST 10. LOVE 11. XXX 12. FEAR 13. GOD 14. DUCKWORTH There’s two people on earth that believe this is Kendrick’s best album, me and Kendrick Lamar. While still slightly conceptual it’s a much more bare bones approach than the other projects in a good way. I think the rumour of their being a second album from the line “my left stroke just viral” hurt it somewhat as people were expecting more. The album is told in a reverse order though and you can get a version of it played chronologically. With a Soundcloud rapper style cover, simple album title this goes for a much rawer approach than his other albums. The tracks he performed off this live sounded incredible also.In a somewhat similar way to Siamese Dream it explores a lot of different emotions and while not as conceptual as GKMC, TPAB it still explores sociopolitical themes in the US. I enjoyed Mr.Morale & The Big Steppers also but it’s not an easy listen. DNA, Humble & XXX are my favourites on the album.

"All Apologies" 3:51 While Nevermind is a masterpiece I love the abrasive approach to this trying to sound as non-commercial as possible and ironically knocking it out of the park again. I was way too young to be conscious of the response to this but it seemed like it steered 90’s music in a more alternative direction rather than trying to escape it. From about Very Ape onwards the album must becomes unhinged not that the album was ever particular hinged in the first place with a track like Rape Me. Serve the servants is my go to track after dealing with difficult people and track 5 is my favourite on the whole album. Successful sabotage.

The Blueprint 3 Jay-Z (2009)
Genre: Hip-Hop Runtime: 60:44 Track List 1. What We Talking About 2. Thank You 3. D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) 4. Run this Town 5. Empire State of Mind 6. Real as it Gets 7. On to the Next One 8. Off That 9. A Star is Born 10. Venus VS Mars 11. Already Home 12. Hate 13. Reminder 14. So Ambitious 15. Young Forever “ oh they call me a Camel But I mastered the drought, what the fuck I'm an animal Half-man half-mammal” - Already Home This is a Public service announcement sponsored by System and the good folk’s at PW: HUMANS ARE MAMMALS. That’s about my only gripe with this album. The night before I moved a million miles away to Tennant Creek, Northern Territory I just decided I was going to listen to more hip-hop. Outside of Eminem I’d never been much of a fan so instead of focusing on packing I just decided to load up my iPod classic with hip-hop albums this being the first after coming across some of the tracks on YouTube. While I can understand that a lot of fans are going to rate his earlier works or 4:44 over this, this was not only my introduction to Jay Z but to really hip-hop as a genre so it holds a special place for me. As for the album itself, Hov puts everyone on notice with DOA and most of the album is full of braggadocio but Jay has the track record at this point to pull it off with great production also. On to the Next One, Off That, Reminder, Already Home (dumb line aside) and DOA are all in heavy rotation for me. Empire State of Mind is overplayed to hell especially when we went to NYC so as great as it is it’s ruined for me.

"Gently” 4:54 8. "Left Behind" 4:01 9. "The Shape" 3:37 10. "I Am Hated" 2:37 11. "Skin Ticket" 6:41 12. "New Abortion" 3:36 13. "Metabolic" 3:59 14. "Iowa" 15:03 - Wiki Copy/paste from Slipknot thread* Pressure on the band to produce a worthy follow-up to the massive success that was “Slipknot”, in-fighting and high tensions between everyone as by all accounts this was a trouble production. Normally when stuff like this happens with albums you get stuff like like The Process - Skinny Puppy, Chinese Democracy by GnR or (even though I loved it) St Anger by Metallica which leads to a mixed or very negative reaction. Fortunately tension pressure and anger were a perfect blend for Iowa and you can hear it the vocals and instrumentation on almost every track from start to finish. The album starting off with guttural screaming that leads into people = shit tells you right away what you’re in for. I knew going in this was already my favourite Slipknot album but re-listening it stood out on how many staple Slipknot tracks appear on this one album, People = Shit, Diasterpiece,my plague, everything ends, the heretic anthem, left behind (listed in track order) are all amazing tracks with two of them nominated for a Grammy. The “if you’re 555 I’m 666” line that sounds like some the quote of some kid reading the satanic bible for the first time can be forgiven for how catchy the song is. Lyrics like “Shallow skin, I can paint with pain I mark the trails on my arms with your disdain Everyday it's the same I love, you hate But I guess I don't care any more Fix my problems with the blade While my eyes turn from blue to gray God, the worst thing happened to me today But I guess I don't care anymore” “I'm in conniptions for the final act you came here for The one derivative you manage is the one I abhor I need a minute to elaborate for everyone the Everyday bullshit things that you have done Your impossible ego fuck is like a Megalomaniacal tab on my tongue You fuckin' touch me I will rip you apart I'll reach in and take a bite out of that Shit you call a heart“ could come across like a teenage kid whining if it wasn’t delivered vocally with such conviction that you really believe that Taylor will rip whoever this hypothetical person is apart. Especially with “Left Behind” that is about Corey’s time being homeless and everyone leaving etc when things improved. Perfect album to listen to after an awful day and just vent and let all of your anger out.

Daytona Pusha T (2018) Genre: Hip-Hop Runtime: 21:08 Tracklist 1. If You Know You Know 2. The Games We Play 3. Hard Piano 4. Come Back Baby 5. Santeria 6. What Would Meek Do? 7. Infrared Pusha T of Clipse mentioned earlier in the thread went solo and sticks to the same subject that made Clipse famous. No small talk here, succinct 21 min transaction. I’ve never met Pusha despite him and his crew walking straight passed sandylea and I and no one noticed him (at his own concert lol:) but just want to make it clear we have no heat. Pusha T dissed Drake on this album, Drake responded with Duppy freestyle then Pusha responded with this brutal diss track revealing to the world that Drake had a son he was concealing from the public. So all stay on good terms before all the “that doesn’t work for me brother’s” I pulled to stay 600 champion become public 😒. Back to this album, it’s the same bars about dealing with Pusha with occasional disses towards Drake and the music industry but it is Pusha T’s most refined work and Kanye’s production on this album is phenomenal also.

ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ Ministry (1992) Genre: Industrial Metal Runtime: 44:41 1. N.W.O. 2. Just One Fix 3. TV II 4. Hero 5. Jesus Built my Hotrod 6. Scarecrow 7. Psalm 69 8. Corrosion 9. Grace While Ministry’s latest output is awful and is the only act I’ve had tickets for that just cancelled permanently (rather than re-schedule) Ministry have definitely had better days such as this 1992 classic commonly known as “Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the way to Suck Eggs”. Harsh & fast metal with angry and at times political which comes into a play a lot later on in the Bush trilogy of albums. While Al tries to pretend like it doesn’t exist, Ministry’s first album is a synth pop album and a good one at that, but it obviously doesn’t fit the aesthetic he is going for. Just One Fix, NWO and Jesus Built my Hotrod are all industrial metal classics and the deep cuts are fantastic too.

Awesome thread System, I'm having fun following along. Your taste in music is the most varied I've seen. Lots of people say they listen to everything, you are perhaps the only person I know who actually does listen to everything. ------------------ Let's start with black metal. The one subgenre of metal I truly dislike. Raw production ain't for me, regardless of the genre. I can't stomach even 30 seconds of Leviathan. There are some thrash albums that would be great but ruined by too-raw production. I understand that is the black metal aesthetic, the intended sound, but it ain't for me. All that said, I have listened to some black metal in my past, specifically Emperor's later albums (In The Nightside Eclipse is too raw for me). Listening to that song takes me back. I'm sure you'd call that overproduced black metal, to me it's the best black metal is going to get. Have you listened to Satyricon? They're pretty interesting. ------------------ Sepultura - Chaos A.D. I love Sepultura's early work (Schizophrenia, Beneath The Remains, Arise). Some of the best thrash metal ever produced. Chaos A.D. is where they groovified their sound, as was the trend, but also incorporating more traditional Brazilian elements. In a sense it's their Black Album in that Sepultura became much bigger from then on. ------------------ Slayer - Reign In Blood. An obvious classic, pure carnage stuffed into a neat sub-30 minute package. Angel of Death is for me the perfect thrash track, hits every staple of the genre and does it to perfection. I actually find Raining Blood to be a little overrated, there are many better Slayer songs, and that garbled mess of sound at the end of the track is a lame way to close the record. ------------------ Rage Against The Machine - I recently started going through RATM's discography because I never gave them a fair shake. Their music is groundbreaking, the fusion of rap and metal was ahead of its time and inspired the entire genre of Nu Metal. Something I noticed from their first album especially is the effective use of repetion. Zack De La Rocha is repeating the same short lyrics dozens of times in a single track, there's often little variety in an individual track, yet it somehow all fits together. I guess those themes are drawn from rap/hip-hop. Zack is a fantastic vocalist. Hatred, vemon, disdain, anger fills his every syllable. Fantastic riffs and brilliant production, I love how much the bass stands out. ------------------ Combichrist - A staple of my university days when I was part of the Alternative Music Society, unfortunately I was exposed to them far more than I would have liked. Industrial metal was never my thing. I like a bit of Ministry, that's about it. ------------------ Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory and Meteora were two of the first CDs I bought, but they didn't age well compared to other bands I listened to at the time. Once the CD era transitioned into the digital era I pretty much gave up on Linkin Park. I still enjoy a couple of tracks, like Paper Cut, Points of Authority, and Breaking The Habit, otherwise no thanks. ------------------ Cannibal Corpse - Having been in the metal scene for so long I really should know if Cannibal Corpse are a serious band or a tongue-in-cheek poke at the controversial genre. But I've never paid much attention to them. Those are some wonderful song titles, especially the opening track "I Will Kill You" I like death metal a lot more than black metal but I still don't listen to it all that much.

Mer De Noms A Perfect Circle (2000) Genre: Alternative Metal Runtime: 44:25 1. "The Hollow" 2:58 2. "Magdalena" 4:06 3. "Rose" 3:26 4. "Judith" 4:07 5. "Orestes" 4:48 6. "3 Libras" 3:39 7. "Sleeping Beauty" 4:10 8. "Thomas" 3:29 9. "Renholdër" 2:24 10. "Thinking of You" 4:34 11. "Breña" 4:24 12. "Over" 2:21 I described this album as being “mostly chill” to sandylea but I don’t think that’s entirely accurate but a much more sombre and soft album than Tool’s output at this point (released before Lateralus). Most already know but Like Tool and Puscifer, A Perfect Circle is also fronted by Maynard James Keenan and still manages to have a unique approach vocally (and visually with the wigs ). Not to say Judith is a bad track, it’s a raw look into MJK’s feeling towards his mother’s unwavering faith despite being paralysed which is explored more on Tool’s 10,000 days 6 years later. With Judith being the heaviest song on the album, the highlights for me are the softer tracks with Brena, Orestes and 3 Libras being some of the highlights. MJK and Billy Howerdel reportedly would constantly clash over how this should sound with MJK wanting softer and Billy heavier and I’m glad it leans more towards MJK’s side. Thirteenth Step is a great concept album about addiction, their latest release Eat the Elephant is a good release and even eMOTIVe is worth a listen for a unique cover album.

Relapse Eminem (2009) Genre: Horrorcore Runtime: 76:05 Tracklist 1. Dr West (Skit) 2. 3 a.m. 3. My Mom 4. Insane 5. Bagpipes from Baghdad 6. Hello 7. Tonya (skit) 8. Same Song & Dance 9. We Made You 10. Medicine Ball 11. Paul (Skit) 12. Stay Wide Awake 13. Old Time’s Sake 14. Must Be the Ganja 15. Mr.Mathers (Skit) 16. Deja Vu 17. Beautiful 18. Crack a Bottle 19. Steve Berman (Skit) 20. Underground If intrusive thoughts were an album it’s this one. Eminem had seemingly disappeared from discussion, I had just finished high school and this point and the baggy jeans looks had feel out of favour by this point. Normally when an artists goes sober you get albums like the follow up to this: Recovery. Introspective and going through their past mistakes. With this it’s hardly any of that, Instead some of the darkest and messed up stuff I’ve heard on a mainstream album taking influence from Horrorcore. Horrorcore normally being an underground thing normally doesn’t have great production but if you can look passed that I’d recommend School House Glock: Extra Credit - Mars and DMT Sessions by Esham that narrowly missed out on this list. Unlike said albums this is a big release and has great production also. I wish Eminem would take a page from George Lucas book and stand by his art. There was meant to be a Relapse 2 which instead became Relapse:Refill as Eminem wasn’t happy with this album’s reception. Didn’t like the prequels? Too bad. I thought the accents switched it up and gave some tracks a unique flow to keep it fresh. The tradition of the skits is back and I enjoy them with Steve Berman basicallly describing what Recovery will be . Speaking of Eminem skits, because I’m too stubborn to change my phone number I used to get non-stop spam calls/texts. One day I thought fuck it I’ll answer. In a really creepy voice I hear “Hello Mr.Ferguson” I hung up and blocked the number freaked out. I jump on PSN later and my mate asks me “why’d you hang up on me?” Turns out he just wanted help with something and was trying to do a Ken Kaniff impression. Crisis averted  There is some serious tracks on this and Eminem does acknowledge his past in an equally as hilarious and disturbing way but I much prefer this over albums like Recovery and the worst Eminem album (so far) Revival.

When The Kite String Pops Acid Bath (1994) Genre: Sludge Metal Runtime: 69:02 Track List 1. "The Blue" 6:13 2. "Tranquilized" 4:14 3. "Cheap Vodka" 2:14 4. "Finger Paintings of the Insane" 6:04 5. "Jezebel" 4:53 6. "Scream of the Butterfly" 6:14 7. "Dr. Seuss Is Dead" 6:04 8. "Dope Fiend" 5:19 9. "Toubabo Koomi" 5:01 10. "God Machine" 5:00 11. "The Morticians Flame" 4:05 12. "What Color Is Death?" 3:19 13. "The Bones of Baby Dolls" 6:00 14. "Cassie Eats Cockroaches" 4:22 This is usually hard to find on streaming, uploads are constantly taking down on YouTube and is surprisingly on Apple Music for the moment with Rotten Records living up to their name. Maybe for trademark reasons Dr.Suess is spelt Soose on Apple Music and it’s listed as Finger Painting of the insane not paintingS. So if you find this on CD or vinyl, purchase it as it’s an incredible album. Luckily I have both this and the follow up 1996’s Paegan Terrorism Tactics on vinyl (very hard to decide which to put on the list) so can listen to at my leisure. Absolutely brilliant metal debut, similar to Grace by Jeff Buckley a very varied album with incredible vocals (Dax Riggs sounds like a much older man on this and he as only 21) and the band ultimately suffered tragedy also with the death of bassist Audie Porte in 1997. Vocalist Dax Riggs was involved in a few other bands and solo works and I’d also recommend the self-titled “Agents of Oblivion” and his solo album “We Sing of Only Blood or Love”. This was release independently with no promotion and still sold 37k copies in the US and deservedly so. With haunting songs like Scream of the Butterfly and Finger Paintings of the Insane and heavier tracks like Tranquiilized and Toubabo Koomi below there’s something for most metal fans. With the band being based in Louisiana and its dark themes this reminds me a lot of early Bray Wyatt. Follow the buzzards and give this a listen.
