Yes System continues to milk the cow dry with these threads. Rather than trashing albums you love, here are my top 50 favourite albums! In case you haven’t guessed I tend to listen to artists entire discographies so it’s down to one artist per entry (collabs are excused). If you want to try and guess the album at the #2 spot I’ll review a discography of your choosing if you get it first (12 albums max). It’s ranked not in release date order. Only rule is I took out artists who were in the 100 thread, though some of these will have been in other threads. Which disqualified My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West Low - David Bowie The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from mars - David Bowie Closer - Joy Division

Hot Pink Doja Cat (2019) Genre: Pop/Hip-Hop/R&B Runtime: 39:48 Track listing 1. Cyber Sex 2. Won’t Bite 3. Rules 4. Bottom Bitch 5. Say So 6. Like That 7. Talk Dirty 8. Addiction 9. Streets 10. Shine 11. Better Than Me 12. Juicy If I had to pick an album to represent the pandemic era it’s a match up between this and Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, as some may recall the trend of people doing a 360 motion to the tune of “do a full 180!”. However as much as I love the singles of Future Nostalgia the deep cuts don’t hold up as well as this does. So much like the #2 album that I received on Christmas Day when I was 9 (i’m 33 now) this represents the strange time I got to sit at home for 2 months. “Say So” was of course a huge hit but the rest of the album holds up and is a great example of modern day pop albums. The sweet sounds and vocals of 90’s releases like Britney Spears but getting much more explicit when the time calls for it with hip-hop verses. Bottom Bitch, Like That & Cyber sex are my other favourite tracks with “Say So” taking the cake as the best track on this album & something I’ve listened to countless times.

I've read the OP multiple times and still can't work out what this thread is supposed to be. This is your favourite 50 albums of all time?
I basically wrote off Doja Cat from the start because she seems like a total cringe person but Paint The Town Red is a total bop.

The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide Leviathan (2003) Genre: Black Metal/Dark Ambient Runtime: 71:05 Track list 1. Introit 2. Fucking Your Ghost in Chains of Ice 3. Sardorniscorn 4. The Bitter Emblem of Dissolve 5. Scenic Solitude and Leprosy 6. He Whom Shadows Move Towards 7. Submersed 8. Mine Molten Armor 9. The Idiot Sun 10. At the Door to the Tenth Sub Level of Suicide I was complaining to one of my friends once about someone being a hypocrite and he responded everyone is a hypocrite and that’s stuck with me ever since. I’d drive past nurses smoking like a chimney in front of a hospital and laugh on my way to get fast food for example. So normally I love well produced lush sounding albums, but for me Black Metal is the exception. A raw gritty and dark genre like Punk and Hip-Hop can be it lends itself to DIY projects. No matter how harsh and Lo-fi it gets the best black metal albums build an atmosphere and tend to be very thematic and this is no different. A solo project recorded entirely in Wrest’s home this can take the place of Joy Division’s Closer as the most depressing album on this list. Incredibly bleak and poetic lyrics complete the harshness of this record though by black metal standards this does some very interesting musical things for this genre long before Deafheaven released Sunbather in 2013. If you don’t like this genre it’s certainly not going to win you over but if you are this is a brilliant soundtrack for the darker moments of life.

48 In the Aeroplane over the Sea Neutral Milk Hotel (1998) Genre: Indie rock Runtime: 39:55 Track list 1. The King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. One 2. The King Of Carrot Flowers Pts. Two & Thre 3. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea 4. Two-Headed Boy 5. The Fool 6. Holland, 1945 7. Communist Daughter 8. Oh Comely 9. Ghost 10. Untitled 11. Two-Headed Boy Pt. Two Hearing this in a casual setting you wouldn’t guess that Anne Frank’s diary was the inspiration for this deceptively upbeat sounding album. Unique vocal style and lyrics combined with some experimental instrumentation by indie rock standards this deserves its cult status. The first 4 tracks are the best part of the album for me but the second half doesn’t disappoint either with more subdued tracks that equate into a fantastic listen.

I think this might be the first time NMH have been mentioned on PW!
This whole album is incredible but for me Oh Comely is it's truly iconic moment. I love the story that Jeff Mangum recorded it in one take and they left someone in the studio yelling out "HOLY SHIT" at the end, it really encapsulates the visceral emotion of the song.
Pitchfork did a great collection of other musicians talking about what the album meant to them with all sorts of great lines that are better than anything I could describe it as. My favourite was from Kevin Barnes from Of Montreal:
"The greatest aspect of the songs on ITAOTS is that, though they are full of pain and confusion and passion and madness, they never seem self-pitying or self-indulgent. They never become pedestrian. I feel that Jeff Mangum’s voice on that record was a portal through which the animal agony and maniac joy of the universal human spirit found amplification."

"Te" (て) 2:16 “Home sick for a place I’m not sure even exists” A truly digital album, produced entirely on a computer this sample heavy album comprised of sounds of the 80s (and 90s) said to be designed to be fake nostalgia in musical form. This album sounds like trying to describe the nonsensical dream you had after a long night out. Fantastic album to just sit and chill out to. Now if you read through the comments people are now nostalgic for the 2010s when this released, being a pioneering album in the vaporwave genre.

Chaos A.D. Sepultura (1993) Genre: Groove metal/thrash metal Runtime: 47:04 Track list 1. "Refuse/Resist" 3:20 2. "Territory" 4:47 3. "Slave New World" 2:55 4. "Amen" 4:27 5. "Kaiowas” 3:43 6. "Propaganda" 3:33 7. "Biotech Is Godzilla" 1:52 8. "Nomad" 4:59 9. "We Who Are Not as Others" 3:42 10. "Manifest" 4:49 11. "The Hunt" 3:59 12. "Clenched Fist” 4:58 On the 6/6/06 VH1 had a whole day dedicated to metal music and Refuse/Resist was mentioned in a top song list. So I of course checked it and loved it. Like a lot of metal albums this is centred around injustice and corrupt governments, with a lot of the times in metal albums having a fictional setting. This however isn’t the case with Chaos AD highlighting incidents like Waco, the Tiananmen Square massacre and the Carandiru massacre in Brazil a year prior. So you can feel the anger and frustration throughout the album but musically and lyrically. Though this isn’t entirely just heavy metal with tracks like Kaoiwas having a nice break from the mayhem. Still the album highlights are biotech is Godzilla and the aforementioned Refuse/Resist on an already brilliant album

I haven’t willingly listened to Doja Cat, it’s usually whatever song pops up on TikTok or even Fortnite that I know of. I may have to give it a listen at some point. Also pretty sure I’ve never listened to Leviathan or Sepultura before, or if I have I don’t remember them.
I’ve listened to Macintosh Plus - basic elevator music, definitely not a fan. It’s been a very long time since I listened to it though, but it’s not something I’m keen to revisit.
Neutral Milk Hotel - System and I apparently listened to this on a road trip before but I honestly don’t remember that, I’m convinced I was asleep and he just listened to it. Listened to a bit of it earlier and I’m still convinced either I was asleep or I just a blocked the memory because I hated it 😳
Excited for potential albums to come!

None Shall Pass Aesop Rock (2007) Genre: hip-hop Runtime: 63:45 Track list 1. Keep Off The Lawn 2. None Shall Pass 3. Catacomb Kids 4. Bring Back Pluto 5. Fumes 6. Getaway Car 7. 39 Thieves 8. The Harbor Is Yours 9. Citronella 10. Gun For The Whole Family 11. Five Fingers 12. No City 13. Dark Heart News 14. Coffee How every verbal conversation about Aesop Rock goes. “What rappers do you like?” “I like x,y and Aesop Rock” “yeah I like A$AP Rocky too”. It’s worth getting past the irritation though as Aesop Rock has had some great releases and tracks. Aside from this I also recommend Skelethon & The Impossible Kid. I haven’t listened to his newest album inergrated tech solutions, just had a few albums to listen to :suspic: If you like lyrically dense hip-hop this will be right up your alley, it’s not as fast as Tech N9ne or Eminem but still incredibly impressive considering: Aesop Rock has the largest vocabulary in hip-hop, according to a study by data scientist Matt Daniels. Using lyrics from Rap Genius, Daniels examined 85 rappers’ first 35,000 lyrics for unique words to give a level playing field to old and new artists. (Rock had 7,392 unique words—more than two times as many as DMX, who had the least number of unique words with 3,214.) And if you’re more of just a beats and productions person this doesn’t disappoint with Catacomb Kids, 39 Thieves, The Harbour is yours, Five Fingers and the title track which is the best track on the album. If you like MF DOOM, Soul Khan or Brother Ali I’d recommend this album. Also Lulla HF is an MC who followed me on TikTok that I’ve enjoyed the little stuff I’ve heard. Anyway back to this album Aesop is much more than a “lyrical spiritual miracle” rapper with substance to his lyrics and great production to back it up.

Aesop Rock is one of those rappers who I feel like I should like but I just don't. I normally listen to his stuff when it first comes out but that's about it. None Shall Pass is about the only song that has stayed in my rotation. It's interesting that you mentioned Brother Ali because he's the same way, I like Brother Sam Goddam but never really got into him more than that.

Death of a Bachelor Panic! at the Disco (2016) Genre: pop rock Runtime: 36:06 Track list 1. Victorious 2. Don’t threaten me with a good time 3. Hallelujah 4. Emperor’s New Clothes 5. Death of a Bachelor 6. Crazy = Genius 7. LA Devotee 8. Golden Days 9. The Good, The Bad and the Dirty 10. House of Memories 11. Impossible Year Despite being two sides of the same coin my friends that were into metal would trash “emo” music like this and outside of seeing “I write sins not tragedies” on repeat all the time on VH1 I never listen to much of Panic! sandylea introduced me to this album and I was very pleasantly surprised, basically what Chance the Rapper tried to do in terms of a wedding and marriaged themed album. Aside from being a love letter to that it’s also a love letter to LA and despite only being there for 2 hours makes me feel like I’m a LA native trolling the people at the Scientology building all day on TikTok. Just a great upbeat album except for the closing track which is the polar opposite to the first track so pick your poison depending on your mood. Wasn’t expecting to love this anywhere near as much as I do.

UnDeveloped OhGr (2011) Genre: Electro-Industrial Runtime: 52:57 Track list 1. "101 (Intro)" 1:11 2. "101" 4:36 3. "Crash (Intro)" 1:47 4. "Crash" 3:29 5. "Pissage" 3:47 6. "Comedown" 4:47 7. "Typer" 4:10 8. "screwMe" 4:09 9. "Bellew" 4:19 10. "Hollow" 3:29 11. "traGek" 3:47 12. "Animist" 3:33 13. "Nitwitz" 9:54 It’s a shame he isn’t posting here anymore as c had a very heavy influence on the albums I like, recommending me stuff throughout the years. So he’d probably be the only person interested seeing this mentioned  OhGr being essentially a side band of Skinny Puppy’s Nivek Ogre there’s many similarities there but OhGr tends to be more electronic and slightly more conventional sound. I’ve seen this best describe as an “aggressive synth pop” album and to be expected industrial sounds fused in. If you like Nine Inch Nails, Front Line Assembly or Leæther Strip I’d recommend checking OhGr and Skinny Puppy out. Crash, Comedown, Bellow and screwMe are my favourite tracks on the album. You can skip over “Typer” though which basically acts as in intermission. Also If you enjoy this, I’d recommend Skinny Puppy’s final album “Weapon” as well which came about after the US military used their music to torture prisoners. www.theguardian.com/music/2014/feb/07/skinny-puppy-payment-guantanamo

I thank you for continuing to expand my horizons System as I always at least try what you suggest even if it ends up not being my jam. And sometimes I find some songs by the artists you suggest that I like so much they make it on my playlist. Love me some Joy Division and Bowie so nice shoutouts there. I have 2 or 3 songs by Doja Cat on my playlist but I'll see what else I might like by her. Neutral Milk Hotel is one of my daughter's favorites and she loves that album too. I tried, but they weren't for me.

Lemonade Beyoncé (2016) Genre: R&B, art pop Runtime: 45:45 Track list 1. Pray You Catch Me 2. Hold Up 3. Don’t Hurt Yourself 4. Sorry 5. 6 Inch 6. Daddy Lessons 7. Love Drought 8. Sandcastles 9. Forward 10. Freedom 11. All Night 12. Formation Centred around Jay Z’s affair this album is a 180 from the usual singles I’ve heard from Beyoncé and definitely a far cry from Bonnie & Clyde. Not only is this a vulnerable look at her feeling towards said infidelity from a lot of different perspectives from someone that’s normally private and no longer did interviews. It’s also about her identity as an African American woman exploring generational trauma in regards to African American relationships in US history. It’s very varied musically and the few features are great ranging from The Weeknd to Jack White without taking away from this being a Beyoncé album. This affair is also addressed on Jay’s brilliant 4:44 album (and the forgettable “Everything is Love” - The Carters) album they did together.

The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me Brand New (2006) Genre: emo, alternative rock Runtime: 54:51 Track list 1. Sowing Season 2. Millstone 3. Jesus 4. Degausser 5. Limousine (MS Rebridge) 6. You Won’t Know 7. Welcome to Bangkok 8. Not the Sun 9. Luca 10. - 11. The Archer’s bows have broken 12. Handcuffs As mentioned in the separating the art from the artist thread, I considered taking albums like this of the list but felt it would be disingenuous. As for this album it’s a landmark in its genre and is considering by some to be one of the best albums of the 2000s. Dealing with themes of depression, illness and death this is a powerful listen right from the start with the first 4 tracks of the album being my favourites and the album only taking a very small step down in quality from there.

Hell Hath No Fury Clipse (2006) Genre: hip-hop Runtime: 48:41 Track list 1. We got it for cheap (intro) 2. Momma I’m so sorry 3. Mr.Me Too 4. Wamp Wamp (What It Do) 5. Ride Around Shining 6. Dirty Money 7. Hello New World 8. Keys Open Doors 9. Ain’t Cha 10. Trill 11. Chinese New Year 12. Nightmares The brotherly duo of Pusha T and Malice (now known as No Malice) known as Clipse collaborated with The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo) to make this incredibly produced hip-hop album. I’ve referenced Pusha T as an artist that always does the same thing but does it exceptionally well. Unsurprisingly the album is about cocaine dealing and the lifestyle surrounding that. It’s at least self aware of the obvious problems that can create. (No) Malice later on converted to Christianity and gave this lifestyle away. Malice is great but it’s clear Pusha was the Shawn Michaels of the group, having a solo run after Clipse split up. The production is brilliant and definitely put this album on another level. My favourite tracks on this album are Ride around Shining, Momma I’m Sorry and We Got it for Cheap. Great album for your office commute.

How does it compare to Deja Entendu System? The Two big singles from that album were staples of the genre in the early 2000s. Despite the scene kids, a lot of great music came out of that period/genre.

Couple thoughts on this so far System1) Aesop Rock is one of the very few rap artists I can listen to. The lyrics are one thing, where people go out on a mission to try and dissect what he's saying but having been listening to him since I was in college, I am loving the growth & way people are finding him. He has had so many good tunes over the years. Off the album you mentioned, "Coffee" is how I found him. Wild music video too. None Shall Pass is cool too. He has so many great tracks scattered throughout his entire music genre. Even the new stuff I come to like "Jumping Coffin" and "Drums on the Wheel" and previous to this "Zero Dark Thirty". Banger beats but the hooks & lyrics the man puts forth is like the icing on the cake. 2) Loveeee seeing the Vaporwave genre get some kudos dude. I haven't heard of this particular album but I get a lot of Lost Traveler vibes with this one so def. gonna try and check this out. Vaporwave is one of those genres that if your just relaxing in bed or chilling, it's the perfect music to just get your mind off of everything. 3) Panic At The Disco is one of those bands that has catchy as heck music but they're hit/miss for me. Emperor's New Clothes is easily one of their best singles/tracks ever though. Absolute Halloween bopper around that time of the year for me. Brandon Urie is hella talented and doesn't ever fall too deep into the "Broadway act" zone that I am usually not a fan of. I still remember he got hit with a bottle at a concert like 2 decades ago and he's still fucking going. 4) Deja Entendu is the album I know more from Brand New and I know the lead singer really messed up and maybe soured a lot of people to the music but I can still play that album here and there. Weird as heck song title names, almost too long for the sake of but still alright.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Mayhem (1994) Genre: Black Metal Runtime: 45:58 1. "Funeral Fog" 5:47 2. "Freezing Moon" 6:23 3. "Cursed in Eternity" 5:10 4. "Pagan Fears" 6:20 5. "Life Eternal" 6:57 6. "From the Dark Past" 5:26 7. "Buried by Time and Dust" 3:34 8. "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" 6:21 While great Black Metal contenders Panzerfaust by Darkthrone and In The Nightside Eclipse by Emperor didn’t make the cut this certainly did. While all the controversies surrounding this album overshadow its music it’s a pioneer of the genre and an example of the infamy Black Metal has. Songwriting began in 1987 but due to the suicide of lead singer “Dead”, (which was photographed by band mate “Euronymous” and used as a bootleg album cover for Dawn of the Black Hearts) and murder of “Euronymous” by band mate Varg Vikernes (of Burzum fame) this was not released until 1994. “Euronymous” & Varg Vikernes are also alleged to have planned to blow up Nidaros Cathedral featured on the front cover. So if there’s ever an album that’s felt “cursed” like The Exorcist film is said to be it’s this one. While A morbid curiosity like true crime Black Metal as a genre never shys away from exploring the darker sides of life. Favourite tracks are Funeral Fog, Life Eternal & Freezing Moon.

Born to Do It Craig David (2000) Genre: 2-Step Garage, R&B Runtime: 45:40 Track list 1. Fill Me In 2. Can’t Be Messing Around 3. Rendezvous 4. 7 Days 5. Follow Me 6. Last Night 7. Walking Away 8. Time to Party 9. Booty Man 10. Once in a Lifetime 11. You Know What 12. Rewind Another album I received as a gift like the #2 album on the list, which again if you guess correctly I’ll review a discography of your choice (12 albums max). Unlike the #2 album which is by a band this the debut of Craig David as a solo artist. 7 Days and Walking Away would play constantly on rage and Video Hits which is how I’d get my music consumption from when listening to a music on a slow AF dial up connection wasn’t ideal. Except for Booty Man which is now unintentionally hilarious the rest of the album is a great R&B listen. While Craig David still makes music he seems to largely fallen out of the spotlight (& was much more popular in the Uk anyway) I’d say The Weeknd or Drake would be the closest contemporary companions. Incredibly catchy album & David has a great voice for this genre.

Craig David is great and this album was full of hits. Insomnia is also a banger track which even though it's not on this album, still gets played every now and then by me. Super talented vocally, not sure why he never caught on in the US. I would normally say marketing but he got played in the 00's.

This was one of the first CDs I ever bought! 7 Days is definitely classic status.
It's interesting that while there's been a flurry of great female British R&B singers recently (Jorja Smith, Raye, Ella Mai) there haven't been any men.

This was one of the first CDs I ever bought! 7 Days is definitely classic status. It's interesting that while there's been a flurry of great female British R&B singers recently (Jorja Smith, Raye, Ella Mai) there haven't been any men. Not sure what they are counted as but Sam/Sammie Smith is a huge pop/R&B star in their own right. Not much a fan of the theatric shit and can do without the Satanic shite they are doing but I guess that's UK's biggest act in that genre.

1989 Taylor Swift (2014) Genre: synth pop Runtime: 48:41 Track list Welcome To New York Blank Space Style Out Of The Woods All You Had To Do Was Stay Shake It Off I Wish You Would Bad Blood Wildest Dreams How You Get The Girl This Love I Know Places Clean Copy/paste from Swift Discography thread* I thought I did that thread a few months ago and it’s been over 12 months 🫣. Outside of bands I already liked this album is probably the most I’ve replayed since doing this threads. Taylor’s Version isn’t as good. Not surprised this album took influence from the 80s as much like Michael Jackson’s 1982 album thriller this album seemed determined to make almost every track a possible single with an insanely catchy album that only lets you get your breath back with 1 or slower tracks (that are great) and then heading back to its fantastic upbeat sound. 7 out the albums 13 tracks were singles that charted if that’s any indication for what this album was going for. Every track perfectly flowing into the next track was a great touch also. This album had a reputation to live up to (much like the next album 😒) and it definitely delivered as one of the best pop albums I’ve ever heard. Ironically like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy you can hear the concentrated effort to make a masterpiece. Max Martin being brought into co-produce was an excellent move as he’s had a part in countless hit singles that you could dedicate an entire thread too. It’s almost entirely just fun from start to finish with any “woe is me” type stuff delivered playfully unlike on Fearless. Reminds me of Daft Punk in places which was not a comparison I was expecting to make. I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to say this will go down as one of the best and most significant albums of all time, it’s sales and ongoing praise will only continue once it hits the “classic” age in in the early 2030s. Favourite Tracks: Welcome to New York, Style, Shake it Off, Bad Blood Least Favourite: N/A
