I decided I'm going to finish the top three over here , because I can barely post at the other site and it's getting beyond annoying visiting there all the time. The list up to this point:
10. IT (2017) 9. 1408 8. Pet Sematary 7. Children of the Corn 6. Stand By Me 5. Misery 4. Carrie 3. The Shawshank Redemption 2. The Shining 1. The Green Mile

I admitted on the other boards that I had never seen this movie , thankfully though since then and before this countdown I decided to sit down and give it a watch. I was really happy that all my reservations about watching it , and it not living up to the hype were wrong though because this movie was fucking excellent and immediately vaulted to my second favorite King adaption of all time. Its beautiful in it's simplicity , in it's story , in the acting by Robbins and Freeman and the entire supporting cast. I've now watched it twice two see if I could actually find something wrong with it and there really is nothing - it's just a beautiful example of a well told story that was directed and acted exactly how it should be.
It's incredible that this movie was pretty much a flop in the theatres and went on to become one of the most praised movies of all time , while also becoming one of the highest grossing movies for video rentals ever.
I think it's a bit of an upset that it's only at #3 on our list , I personally would of made it my number one and it has a shot to be there one day after rewatches and seeing how well it still engages me but I have a much stronger and long lasting connection to my #1 movie and it seems others to do.
I included the scene from Youtube because that is one of my favorite scenes and favorites moments of dialogue. Just a great subtle moment.

Misery is fantastic and does a great job of channeling King's trepidation about some of his more hardcore fans. Carrie has one of the most classic jump scare endings of all time and has wonderful performances by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. I'm not as high on Shawshank as most people are but in the world of Stephen King it is a very strong effort and also made it to number 2. I just think outside of the King bubble it does get a little overrated, I have it as a 9/10.

I think it's more do to Darabont , Freeman and Robbins though that makes the movie successful and not as much the short story is was adapted from. Darabont's control of this movie shines through in damn near every scene and in a lot of peoples hands - this movie would not be nearly as successful.

Don't have much to say about Shawshank that's not already been said. It's a masterpiece. But not my favourite King adaptation.

Talk about upsets , I was pleasantly surprised to see The Green Mile walk away with the top spot on this list as it was my #1 all along and #1 on two other lists as well. Tom Hanks is as charming and beloved as always and really makes you engage in this movie but it's Michael Clarke Duncan's performance that really stood out to me. The fact that he didn't win Best Supporting Actor that year at the Oscars was robbery IMO. Fuck you Michael Caine and fuck Cider House Rules.
The revelation and the ultimate ending to the movie was/is one of the most heartbreaking in movie history for me , not many movies make me emotional just thinking about it - but The Green Mile definitely is one of those movies. It's why it finished #1 for me , because of my history and how many times I've rewatched and enjoyed it every single time.
I have nothing to say about The Shining except it's a solid horror movie and made #4 on my list , but I don't love it like others do.

The Dead Zone not even making the Top 10 is an upset. Would be my #2 after The Shining. One of the great endings of 1980s.

Dead Zone just missed my list which is now lost in the black hole that is old board. The Shining was my number 1, it has more rewatchability than Green Mile.

That's how I figured the top 3 would play out in one form or another, for me, the exact opposite: Shawshank, the Shining, Green Mile.

I thought Dead Zone was kinda boring. Both book and film, but the film was worse. Just didn't click with me at all.
The Shining is the first film that truly terrified me after my childhood years, and it remains one of my favourite horror films. One of Jack Nicholson's many amazing performances. I love psychological horror films and it doesn't get any better than The Shining. I know book fans hate it because it tells the story in a completely different way, and perhaps I might dislike it if I had read the book first. The only thing I dislike about the film is the "Here's Johnny" line and what it has become.
When people ask me what my favourite film is, I don't have a definite answer, but The Green Mile is the one that most often pops in my head. It's one of the best stories ever created, and one of the rare cases were the adaptation not only does the story justice, but perhaps even surpasses it. Of course Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan are brilliant. But the supporting cast deserves huge credit. Doug Hutchinson's portrayal of the no-good piece of shit officer Percy is one of the great villain performances in my opinion. David Morse is great as Hanks' right-hand man. Sam Rockwell, who plays the prisoner "Wild Bill" is almost as good of a villain performance as Hutchinson. I often have trouble getting through films of that length, even good ones, but not so with The Green Mile. It's close to a perfect film, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see it top this list.
