Day 29- A song from my childhood, I recently did some soul searching to trace my love of reggae music back to where it started. It really makes no sense that a person like me growing up where I did at the time that I did to love reggae so much. Everybody I know thinks my love of reggae is just fucking weird. But honestly I can trace it back to this. My dad was a Steven Segall mark back in the early 90's, he would drag us to every one of his movies on opening weekend, had the same ponytail, he was like Seagall's superfan. So when I was 5 years old in October 1990 and I was taken to the movie theaters to see Marked For Death those reggae vibes hit my soul and planted the seeds. Finally got my hands on the soundtrack last Summer and it's legit great reggae on there, Jimmy Cliff was one of the all time legends of the genre from Jamiaca was all over the soundtrack and even appeared performing in one scene in the movie. It all makes sense now, hearing that jam in a full surround movie theater sound system that young, I was predestined to love reggae. Either that or this song in Men At Work which came out around the same time and was me and my little brother's favorite movie back then:

RT's Day 23 A song I think everyone should listen to.
There's a million options for this one and instead of picking the usual suspects that are on every single list, I'm picking a particular song and a particular performance. I go back to this video multiple times a year. It's not just a catchy song, but it's easily one of the best live performances of a song I have ever heard. This is a band just doing their thing but doing it perfectly and flawless. And John Frusciante...just listen. Try not to be moved by this performance.

Day 30 - song that reminds you of yourself
Honestly I have zero idea what songs remind me of myself other than super emo songs, or those attached to memories? 😂😂 But I think this song is pretty perfect 😂 I always stand by my friends no matter what, and it’s just a super fun song so 😁

RT's Day 24 Song by a band I wish was still together.
Technically they are still together but I don't think it counts. They really only do benefit concerts and festivals these days and perform live together like twice a year and never anywhere near where I live. Been this way for like a decade now. And I doubt they ever release another album again.
I had the chance to see them way back in like 2004 with The Mars Volta and I passed it up to go to Warped Tour because both were on the same day. As much as I enjoyed Warped Tour, I regret my decision. I expected both those bands to have long careers and tour a lot and neither of them did. Really sucks I never got to see SOAD live as they have been a favourite of mine since high school. RATM is up there too; I had floor tickets to a show in June 2020 that I purchased in February 2020...then the world stopped and they never actually toured and probably never will again.

Man I remember when my uncle and aunt got me tickets for Metallica Summer Sanitarium 2000 show I was kind of over all those main acts by that time(Korn, Kid Rock, Powerman 5000) but System of a Down was the opener, I was the most stoked about seeing them out of everybody there, they were still a brand new band. Our car broke down on the way then by the time we got there it took an hour and a half to get through the line and I missed their whole set, Powerman 5000 was already playing when we got there. Never did get to see them.

Day 30 (Final day, YAY!): A song that reminds me of myself.
It's more of a reminder that once upon a time, I was really out of shape. Now 30 pounds lighter, I use this to remind me not to stop, or else I'll be back at square one.

Day 30 song that reminds me of myself where I’m at will have to be back to the start by Soja, kind of bottomed out last year overwhelmed with a baby on my own and trying to save a construction business, had to change shit up and rewind some shit back to how I used to do it. Getting all that confidence back and healing up and getting strong again.

Capturing the conflict of having a child at the risk of losing the mother in the process, emotional stuff as always from Kate Bush.

Song 29: Childhood Favorite
For a long time, the cassette tape with this song on it was the only one I had access to. By the mid 90s my cousin and I had moved on to Sink the Bismarck from the same tape. That one we'd crank up to maximum volume when he came over and no one else was around. Further proof we were the coolest cats in town.

Forgo about this again so I'm just gonna bang out the rest over a few posts and be done with it. Love everyone posting their song lists. If I get really bored at work this week (which is very possible because I will be doing a lot of waiting around on other people) I will make a spotify list and post it.
.....
RT's Day 25 Song I like by an artist no longer living
I was going to post a different song but decided to save it for a later category. Instead I'm not gonna over think this, I'm just gonna post my favourite song by Nirvana and be the billionth person to say I wish Kurt Cobain lived longer and gave us more music.
.....
RT's Day 26 A song that makes me want to fall in love
This isn't something I really think about when listening to music these days since I already found the love of my life, so I'm posting one of her favourite songs that she plays often and says makes her think of me. Whenever I hear it I think about her listening to it and it makes me happy.

RT's Day 27 A song that breaks my heart.
I don't have an explanation for this, but every time I hear this song I feel like crying. Shout out to "No Surprises" by Radiohead too, it's a close 2nd. At least there's a reason for that song being depressing.
RT's Day 28 A song by an artist whose voice I love.
No explanation needed here.
