According to his family, and close friend Jerry Lawler, the legendary voice of Memphis Wrestling, Lance Russell, has passed away at age 91.

Shit, they have been dropping like flies the past two weeks. I mostly remember him from his 1989 NWA run. He had one of the most distinct voices in wrestling and was the southern version of Ed Whalen in some ways, he will be missed.

Damn. Lance is my choice for 2nd greatest play by play guy of all time and also the 2nd most important man in the history of Memphis wrestling. He was the voice of reason in that wild and woolly world. Much like his only superior JR, Lance had a bond with his fans. They liked and trusted him. By all accounts he was also a swell guy, which is rare for pro wrestling.
