With almost one hundred original shows to their name, HBO is known for high quality content. When you see the tv network's static/hear the sound that follows suit, what is the first HBO show that comes to mind

The Sopranos to me honestly. Such a long running show and for the most part was pretty consistant in it's quality. Made a Gandolfini a household name.

The Sopranos definitely comes to mind first, when talking about HBO. Then...
Sex & The City Game of Thrones The Wire The Larry Sanders Show OZ Deadwood Curb Your Enthusiasm Tales From The Crypt Real Sex Rome The Kids in the Hall True Blood Dream On Not Necessarily The News Carnivale
...and so on.

I hum the Curb theme no matter what HBO show I'm watching. This is me too. The HBO static is synonymous with Curb to me.

The top is Game of Thrones for me. I do have to watch Curb eventually. See what the hypes about.

Originally Sopranos. That's a good call. But recently, GoT. I don't watch many current HBO shows anymore.
GoT Curb Silicon Valley Ballers Westworld Last Week Tonight
I think that's it.

Sopranos is probably the one I think of immediately with it, though Six Feet Under was the first HBO show I watched.

I think of Saturday nights growing up. My family always watched the cable premier of whatever movie of the week was out on HBO. I must've done that until I was in High School.

Even though Game of Thrones is my favorite show the channel has ever produced, and I even prefer the Wire, Sopranos is still generally the first show that comes to mind when I think of HBO. It's really the launching point for what becomes the golden age of television, where the medium finally began to rival even film in terms of content, where big name actors actually become commonplace, where once TV was generally the minors waiting for your career to take off. As a fan of entertainment, the influence is undeniable.

The HBO static reminds me of comedy specials like George Carlin is about to walk onstage.

Game of Thrones is the first to come to mind for me, and Eastbound & Down as well. Lately I have been watching Silicon Valley and I really like that show a lot. I've been meaning to check out Curb Your Enthusiasm because I hear nothing but good things about it.
