*The big WWF vs. WCW Supercard of the Century ended in a 3-3-2 draw while generating the biggest buyrate professional wrestling had seen in several years. Both Vince McMahon & Eric Bischoff were peeved by the lack of a decisive win, and took it out on the wrestlers who lost, or drew. This, coupled with the fact that the wrestlers themselves were emboldened by their historic, money making show, caused the 20 wrestlers who appeared on the Supercard of the Century to use a loophole in their contracts to create their own new promotion independent of WWF or WCW. It should come as no surprise to anyone that Shawn Michaels was the driving force behind this revolutionary new "wrestlers first" promotion. The first two free agent signings were respected veterans Jacques Rougeau & Rick Martel who were not under contract to either of the Big Two. H2Wrestling (the meaning of which remains a mystery) has already been at it for a few months. The Monday Night War has become a 3 Way Dance with H2W drawing respectable ratings on TNN which rival that of WWF & WCW (though they've admittedly yet to achieve that first big win). This is their first pay per view.
1. Faces of Fear (Meng & Barbarian) vs. The Almighty Jannettys (Stevie Ray & Bart Gunn)
The Faces of Fear were successful against the New Rockers at Supercard of the Century and also hold victories over the now-defunct duos of Harlem Heat & The Smoking Gunns. Despite a decent win/loss record, the FoF failed to reach the finals of the tag title tournament, but a win here will surely put them into title contention.
Both Harlem Heat & the Smoking Gunns broke up after a series of losses following Supercard of the Century. Booker T & Billy Gunn won the subsequent feuds with their ex-partners and have been on a roll ever since, while Stevie Ray & Bart Gunn struggled to find their footing in singles competition.
Enter Marty Jannetty. After his own tag team split, "The Original Rocker" became quite delusional. Why one might even call him "Broken!" But like the man who gave us our show title, "Lord" Timothy Dexter, deluded men often find a following. And that has happened here with Stevie Ray & Bart Gunn becoming Jannetty's henchmen in his war with reality itself. These outcasts would like nothing better than to upset the Faces of Fear to please their master and put themselves into tag title contention.
2. Rick "The Model" Martel vs. Henry O. Godwinn- San Francisco 49ers Match
To the surprise of no one, it didn't take long before the arrogant French-Canadien model clashed with the blue collar Arkansas hog farmer. HOG was on a roll coming off his Supercard of the Century win over Lord Steven Regal and Martel targeted him right away upon his arrival to H2Wrestling. A war of words ensued. Slop was thrown and "Arrogance" sprayed. After months of trash talk, sneak attacks, and inconclusive finishes, it has come to....
The infamous San Francisco 49ers Match! A pole will be set up in each corner of the ring. Atop each pole will be a box. One box will house "Arrogance" and another Godwinn's beloved slop bucket. No one knows what may or may not be in the other two boxes. So why don't you tune in to find out along with the rest of us?
3. "The Original Rocker" Marty Jannetty vs. Al "Avatar" Snow- Grudge Match
The New Rockers lost to the Faces of Fear at Supercard of the Century and things just got worse from there. A split soon became inevitable with Al Snow renouncing his "stupid" Leif Cassidy gimmick and taking a more serious approach as a "perfect wrestler" calling himself "Avatar."
This latest betrayal caused Marty Jannetty to go off the deep end. He has become delusional, saying he carried not just "Leif" but also our World Champion, Shawn Michaels! However, his delusions have also gained him a few followers. Might his henchmen, "The Almighty Jannettys" figure into the outcome of the match? And if so, does Avatar have a counter for them? You know you want to find out. So watch the damn show!
4. "The One" Billy Gunn vs. Booker T- TV Title #1 Contender Match
These two are so similar. In another world they would have made great partners. But in this one they have a burgeoning feud. Both men are on a roll as the breakout stars of their former teams. It was inevitable that our two hottest young rising stars would meet. And the stakes are high with the winner going on to face our World Television Champion.
5. Ahmed Johnson (c) vs. Arn Anderson- TV Title Match
Ahmed continues to be arguably the hottest wrestler on the planet. He defeated Lex Luger at Supercard of the Century and bested Lord Steven Regal in the finals of a tournament to become the inaugural H2Wrestling TV Champion. The Pearl River Powerhouse's fanbase continues to grow with each passing victory.
But none of that means anything to Arn Anderson. Sure, Arn suffered a loss to Davey Boy Smith at Supercard of the Century but, as he usually does, "The Enforcer" quickly bounced back with a series of wins to put himself right back into title contention. Ahmed doesn't scare him. Arn's wrestled 'em all and beat most of them. Arn claims muscles are no match for grit, heart, and experience. He promises to find Ahmed's weakness and exploit it. He'll bend the rules if necessary. "All the muscles in the world won't save a man with a bum wheel...or a wrecked arm....or a bad back." Arn is going to test Ahmed like he's never been tested before. Anderson is arguably the greatest TV Champion another company ever saw, and he promises things are going to be the same here in H2Wrestling. You can take that to the bank.
6. Lex Luger vs. Davey Boy Smith- Allied Powers Explode
This match is over a year in the making. These two were once a tag team called the Allied Powers. Bulldog turned on Luger and nothing was ever settled between the two after that. Depending on who tells the story, either Bulldog ran Luger out of their former company, or Luger fled to greener pastures rather than waste his time beating on the "lowly" Bulldog. One thing is for certain. This battle between ex-partners with similar styles and career paths is bound to be heated.
7. Hoss Power (Scott Norton & Bradshaw) vs. Dastardly Customers (Lord Steven Regal & Jacques Rougeau)- Tag Title Tournament Finals
"Wouldn't it be cool if Scott Norton & Bradshaw, Lord Steven Regal & Jacques Rougeau, and J___ J_______ & A__ A_______ became tag teams?" - Every wrestling fan ever in the mid 90s. And now 2/3rds of that dream has become a reality!
Hoss Power is only the biggest, baddest team ever. Road Warriors ain't got nothin' on Flash Norton & Bradshaw! Demolition? PLEASE! Skyscrapers? Gimme a break! Twin Towers? You're joking, right? Doom? Haha! Natural Disasters? LOL. Nope. Norton & Bradshaw are the quintessential hoss team. Undeniable. Unbeatable. They're partially the reason Harlem Heat, New Rockers & the Smoking Gunns no longer exist. Those weak sauce teams simply could not compete.
And then you have the other reason Harlem Heat, the New Rockers, and Smoking Gunns are yesterday's news. That would be the Dastardly Customers of Jacques Rougeau &Lord Steven Regal. They have turned cheating into an art form. The Brainbusters bow to their greatness. Ric Flair knows he is no longer the dirtiest player in the game. Eddie Guerrero never finds his future self because he knows anything he could ever do would pale in comparison to the antics of His Lordship and Canada's Finest.
Hoss Power is unbeatable in a straight up clean fight. They know it. You know it. But most importantly Jacques & His Lordship know it. Which means The Dastardly Customers are far too smart to wrestle Hoss Power's match. They'll pull out every lowdown, dirty trick in the book (most of which they invented, by the way) to achieve victory. And you know what? They just might do it.....
8. Undertaker vs. The Giant- The Colossalest Jostle
We have seen Colossal Jostles before and we will see more in the future but none will ever compare to this. For this will be the ultimate Clash of the Titans....the definitive meeting of the Immovable Force and Irresistible Object....in short, it is the COLOSSALEST JOSTLE!
These are the two premier big men in wrestling. Fans of dying WWF and terminally ill WCW wanted to see this match ever since The Giant broke into the business. And now we here at H2Wrestling are answering that clarion call. The Deadman and The Giant first crossed paths in our Rumble Royale to crown the inaugural H2Wrestling Champion. Each man eliminated a half-dozen competitors before their earth-shaking collision resulted in the eliminations of both men. Things have only heated up between the two behemoths since then. And now the question will be answered once and for all....."Just who is the premier big man in all of professional wrestling?"
9. Shawn Michaels (c) vs. Sting- H2Wrestling Championship Match
This first time dream match alone would be worth the price of admission or a pay per view purchase. Shawn Michaels won the Rumble Royale to become the inaugural H2Wrestling Champion when he controversially eliminated Sting after skinning the cat. Since then HBK has acted a little cockier than usual....bent a rule or two....borderline badmouthed Sting once or twice. Nothing outrageously villainous, mind you. But he does seem to be flirting with the dark side.
Meanwhile, Sting is more popular than ever. More than any other wrestler, he seems reinvigorated by a change of scenery. And revenge will be on his mind when he looks to topple Michaels for the prestigious H2Wrestling Title. While Michaels says he's already beaten one guy who did the Scorpion Deathlock so it shouldn't be hard to defeat another.
