It is cute Kid got into pokemon go out and Vote <.<
This was an adorable picture. Turns out the Hardy clan is super into pokemon. Was a hilarious live stream too a sugar crazed Barty causing chaos later that night. And for those who do not know, Matt named his daughter Eevee after Reby's favorite pokemon. They open tons of crazy pokemon shit on the House Hardy stream for Wolfie and Maxel.

In addition to the Pokemon gym 5 minutes from my house, there's a Pokemon gym right next to my actual gym. Both were red this morning. Now they are blue. I hope they stay that way for a while.
Unfortunately my local area is distinctly lacking in Pokemon stops. I can see myself running out of resources relatively soon. I had a huge stockpile from 2016 but it's starting to dwindle. Will have to rely on battles and your lovely gifts to keep it going.

Unfortunately my local area is distinctly lacking in Pokemon stops. I can see myself running out of resources relatively soon. I had a huge stockpile from 2016 but it's starting to dwindle. Will have to rely on battles and your lovely gifts to keep it going. You can spin gyms by clicking the arrow on the top right. The only thing you miss out on is Field Research missions.
You'll want to try and master curve throws ASAP since they improve catch-rates by a multiple of 2.5. If you can work on fast catches it makes the game so much more efficient and enjoyable to play.
Day 2 of Festival of Lights
You can add Natu and Electrike to the shiny collection. I miscalculated my Friendship Levels so to get some value out of my Lucky Egg I mass evolved a bunch of Pokemon I was saving for on a Double EXP day and reached Level 33. Since the weather was partly cloudy, I thought I'd see a ton of Rhyhorn and Geodude spawns but no dice. On the other side of the coin, I barely saw any Cottonee so I'd say it largely came down to weather. On my hike I found a Miltank, Clefairy and Skorupi nest. My local park is a Bunery nest so it's nice to get a good lay of the land and see what Go considers nesting areas.
So far I've been trying to catch everything but by the end of the day I was running so short on supplies I had to be selective about what I caught. I still check everything that has shiny potential but for the event I'm really just looking to farm Darumakas, Magnemites, Litwicks, Fennekins and Pikachus for that catch 1,000 Pikachus achievement. I won't need it until I hit Lvl 48 but whatever I can do now to ease the process is worth pursuing.
One mistake I did make was not leave any slots open for the 7km eggs. It was a rookie mistake and I thought you could get them in that bonus egg section. Emp, if you leave your 9 slots open you'll receive a 7km egg that features a few event exclusive Pokemon. I'm mainly after the baby forms of Electabuzz, Magmar and Rosellia. Next session I'm going to hoard the gift giving session till I hatch my 5km (still have 1.5km to go), then I'll open them up until I get my 7km, then I'll grind my 2km and repeat until I have a few 7kms.
No raids today, I slept in this morning and the only raid that spawned during the evening was a Magmar. Typically I'd spend it regardless for the free rewards but I was in a rush. Fortunately it's easy to grind for Mega candies via the Field Research and the other legendary spawns aren't really worth grinding. I do want to catch all 3 for the Dex, but this wasn't like the Darkrai event where I felt like I had to meet my daily quota.

I remember in 2016 I couldn't keep my Pokemon in a gym for more than an hour. And that has happened a couple of times. But right now I have six Pokemon in gyms. Snorlax has been sitting in my closest gym for nearly two days. The others are approaching one day.
I've already earned 50 Pokecoins from this, although I must admit I'm not sure on the best way to spend them. I know I can purchase new clothes for my avatar to wear, which is kinda cool. What else, I wonder?
There are some rare candies and TMs in my inventory, but still debating on the best way to use them.
Finally, I attempted a raid yesterday. Seemed like I was the only one fighting the beast. After he slaughtered my party two times, I gave up. At least I was able to complete a mission to participate in two raid battles.

Seemed like I was the only one fighting the beast. After he slaughtered my party two times, I gave up. At least I was able to complete a mission to participate in two raid battles. The smartest investment for new trainers is Item Storage upgrades so you can hoard more Pokeballs, especially for days like Community Days or the Spotlight hours. Also every week there's an event box that costs one coin and gives you a few items including a Remote Raid Pass. Remote Passes are great because they allow friends to invite you to raids across the world and you can enjoy it from the comfort of your lounge room.
Rare candies are best kept for legendary/mythical Pokemon since their candy is tough to come by. TMs should be saved on a need to use basis. If you have a really strong fire type but it doesn't have the best moves, give it a TM to try and get it's best move. You may need to check out guides beforehand to know which moves to go for.
Did you invite other players to join or battle alongside people who were there? You may have infact fought this create on your own.

Pretty sure nobody was there and I was fighting it on my own. I don't know what it's like in Australia but in England there don't seem to be hordes of people gathering around a Pokemon gym at raid time. I've checked a few raids and I've not seen any signs of life besides myself.
One of you guys needs to invite me to a remote raid. I have one remote pass.
I'm confused as to the gym mechanics. I thought you got 50 coins for each day your Pokemon stays in a gym. So far I've accumulated at least 4 days (Snorlax is nearly at 3 days in his gym, Rhydon and Vaporeon are approachign 2 days), but I only seem to have received one 50 coin reward. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the mechanic.

So what happens is you need the accumulated time of all eliminated Pokemon to be 8 hours and 20 minutes. If a Pokemon spends 3 days there, they'll hit that threshold on their own but you'll want to keep a steady rotation of gyms as they'll constantly tick over. Some days are slower than others, for instance I had one day where only one Pokemon was eliminated just before midnight despite having 20 gyms and Pokemon that had been there for a week. If you see a few gyms in the vicinity and you can see there's room always go out of your way to put somebody there. I'm not sure if there are level limitations, but the rule is the more the merrir, albeit you may want to consider keeping certain monsters for PVE. As far as raids go... Each day you're given one free raid pass so if you're in the vicinity of a gym you can battle it without spending a remote pass. You can only have one of these passes on your person at one time, but you can claim one pass a day. So if you didn't spend your pass the day before when you go back to the gym's disc you can spin it for an additional pass which you can spend on the same day. Now this is what made Pokemon Go really appealing to me... I have this app called PokeRaid battler that allows me to host raids online. All I do is connect my account to the raid, search which raid I want to take down, select weather conditions and then select global. I then wait for players around the world to join the lobby, send me their friend invites and then once I have everyone I click a button to copy+paste their names and then use the search bar so that all the players pop up and invite them. When I first did this, I completely messed it up and some trainers names didn't copy properly so I had to manually search for them but after a horrific first experience it became a lot easier to navigate. IF you find yourself short-staffed (you'll want at least 5 players for 5 star or higher raids) just back out of the raid before the timer hits zero. Try to give everyone a heads up and leave with 20 seconds remaining but hopefully it doesn't come to it. The game will automatically pick your team, but if you go into the Battle Section you can pre-pick your own team and swipe right to have your preferred team. You can also spend your remote raid pass via these apps by adding the host. When their ready your Pokemon radar should flash gold. Click it, select the Raid tab and click the invite and you'll be able to join. Word of warning even if you win the raid, the Pokemon can be tough to catch. In fact even this morning I missed out on a Terrakion despite golden razzing it and throwing great curve ball throws. You should be able to catch more than you miss but just a word of warning. With Megas, you don't actually catch their Mega form. What happens is you collect their Mega Energy and you'll need 100-200 or so to access it's Mega Evolution which is an 8 hour buff. The Pokemon will be super powerful in battle and you'll get perks like additional candy for each Pokemon of it's typing. Whenever you win a Mega Raid you'll collect around 70 or so Energy depending on how quickly you take the monster down. One rookie mistake I made is that when my team was eliminated by the bosses, I would just go with the next six Pokemon the game offered me. It's far better to use items to revive and heal your team and then swipe right to that team.
Raids spawn from 6:30am - 9:30pm and they spawn multiple times a day at each gym.

What makes Pokemon Go appealing to you makes it less appealing to me.
For me Pokemon Go is a casual game, I really have no interest in going to all that trouble to host a raid. I'd like to be able to walk up to a raid, fight it, and have a chance of winning. Based on my admittedly small experience, this isn't realistic as there's not too much of a playerbase.
I'm already getting fatigued with it, I'm going to move to a playstyle where I do the bare minimum on a typical day, and maybe a few times a month go out to a populated area and do some real Pokemon hunting. Since there's infinite content it could easily take over my life to an unreasonable extent. I don't want to be planning my life around this game.
It is fun and it does motivate me to leave the house at times where I otherwise wouldn't, which is good, but it does demand a lot of investment to do everything, and I'm not willing to commit to that.

It sounds complicated in writing, but in practice it's really easy. Come across a raid, use the third party app to organise a group and then go fight said monster.
I thought I was never going to access that content when I started playing. I thought I'd have to join some social group which didn't appeal to me but when I discovered how accessible it was it gave the game another layer.
I actually think our approaches are pretty similar and I think it's smart to focus on events. Like the 6:00pm Tuesday Spotlight hour where you get double candy for each transfer as well as increased spawns for a rare monster.

Within 40m yes.
Otherwise you can access those raids via your remote raid pass but it's strongly advised you just join an active party.

The second part of the Festival of Lights event has launched in Australia.
The Team Rocket Lineups can be found on the Silph Road reddit page. Of interest Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Charmander, Turtwig, Larvitar, Mudkip, Gligar and Grimer are available.
Giovanni's team is 1. Persian 2. Either Rhyperior or Kingler 3. Lugia
The event also has the final two pages of the Misunderstood Mischief, which if you complete before the end of November should unlock Hoopa's unbound form.

It looks like we've got an egg event, the regular spawns are pretty common and I'm pretty sure the costumed Pokemon won't be able to evolve which means I'm going to be stuck with a ton of candy. The egg spawns though are all Pokemon I need to add to my dex and Riolu as a 3.5km egg (compared to it's usual 10km) is too good to pass up.
On the spawns personally all I really need is Aron, Bidoof (I missed most of the Gen IV era), Scyther, Larvitar (can't have too many), Buizel, Burmy, Spheal & Bagon. That sounds like a lot but considering the majority of those will be rare spawns I expect them to be pretty hard to come by. Looking at the raids, once I collect Cresselia I could see myself just going for Tyranitar, Salamence, Gallade and some of the one star raids.
Is anyone picking up BDSP? I'd imagine you would be Lony? I've got to be honest ever since it was revealed I had no intentions since it seemed so low effort and I have all the Gen IV games but as I've been more invested in Go I'm tempted to pick up SP. From the leaks, it sounds like the game is exactly as I expected it to be though so I'm curious to hear if there is some additional content there to entice me. Otherwise I'll hold out until Legends in January.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the shop is offering a 'Great Ball pack' that includes 3 Super Incubutars, 2 Regular Incubators and a Lure Module for 300 PokeCoins (a saving of 700 PokeCoins).
I'm going to have to forego the storage expansion and pick one of these up.

I convinced myself to get the Pokemon Raid app. I've not joined a remote raid yet, but I'll try it out at some point. Not sure when or if I'll ever do a local raid. Siting or standing next to a building for 45 minutes while fiddle fucking around with my phone, hoping people will join, copying and pasting loads of friend codes, fucking it up and ruining the raid does not sound like my idea of a good time.
---------------------------
I'm seeing the same old Pokemon, which is no surprise, but a random rare Pokemon pops up often enough to be interesting. For example I just caught a Misdreavus, a first ever for me. With an Excellent throw too.
---------------------------
One thing I don't really understand is determining how good a Pokemon is and which ones are worth investing evolution and powerups. Seems like each Pokemon has a range of CP it can take, and a range of IVs (which you see on the Appraisal screen). I suppose high CP and high IVs is the dream. But which is worth keeping, a high CP Pokemon with a mediocre IV, or a low CP Pokemon with perfect IVs?
My thinking is if you start with a 500 CP pokemon and power it up as many times as you can, it can only reach a maximum of, say, 2500 CP. Meanwhile if you start with a 750 CP pokemon you could power it up to 2750 CP. The IVs remain constant. I have no idea if this understanding is correct. I also have no idea if higher CP or higher IV is better in battle. Would my 2500CP with perfect IVs pokemon be stronger than my 2750CP with average IVs pokemon?

That's the best approach, get a feel for the raids, setting teams (there should be guides either in the app or online in terms of what teams to set) and make yourself comfortable. If I could make one suggestion, Terrakion is the most valuable monster since it's Rock/Fighting with Higher CP making it useful against a lot of the legendary flying Pokemon.
I'd say a typical raid for me takes around 10 minutes between hosting it on the app, accepting friend invites, waiting in the lobby, battling and catching. I'd recommend scouting out the area and finding areas where you'd be comfortable.
That's a good question, in general you want the Highest CP with the Highest Attack stat for PVE. The less investment the better since it's better to have a balanced team of six than just one really good monster. To answer your question, I'd say neither UNLESS the low CP Pokemon has perfect IVs.
Some Pokemon are definitely better than others in PVE. I would recommend watching this video to get an idea of which 'budget' Pokemon are useful.
Also one rookie mistake I made is that I upgraded a few of my Pokemon to their max power-up stage. This isn't really necessary and in general you just want to hit Lvl 30 (ie. the last level before they ask for six candy before each power-up).
So let's say the 500CP Pokemon had better IVs. If you powered up both Pokemon to Lvl 30, the 500CP Pokemon would lap the 750CP by about 300CP. So Pokemon A would be 2800CP Pokemon B would be 2500CP. Depending on Attack IVs, Pokemon A could potentially hit for 2 more damage than Pokemon B as well. The only benefit of the 750CP Pokemon is that you invested less Stardust and Candy.

Boom, joined my first remote raid. Caught a gorgeous Virizion. All went pretty smoothly except the friend code didn't copy, and I couldn't figure out the way to re-copy it, so I just typed it in manually. I'm a computer guy, not so great with phones.
The raid was funny, all my fellow trainers were level 40+ and were just launching legendaries at it. I assume the big boy attacks each trainer equally? From my view it was only focusing on my Pokemon, but I guess it's the same for every participant? In the end, me and my pathetic Generation 1 roster delivered the killing blow. Catching it was relatively easy, "only" needed three Golden Raspberries. Couldn't score even a Nice throw though.
My roster boasts my first legendary. I'm happy. I'm also surprised by how exhilirating that was.

Seems to me like there's no benefit in having your Pokemon in a gym for more than 8 hours 20 minutes (to reach the 50 Pokecoin limit), except for the pride of having a gym in your name.

Congrats on the legendary! Yeah raids are very janky and it can seem like you're doing all the work but as long as the HP bar goes down quickly that's the main thing. The hook is that you can add them to your Dex and on top of them some of them are the best monsters in the game and they're great for PVE or PVP. However they only start at Lvl 20 or Lvl 25 if Weather boosted, so you'll have to power them up at least 20 times to really see their strength in battles.
You're not wrong about gyms. I rarely take over gyms and only do so if I see they've been there for days and it's a fairly secluded area that doesn't receive a ton of traffic. It's more about benefitting people on your team as well as potentially giving the opposition their 50 coins. I don't take late night walks, but if I did I wouldn't take over any gyms unless it was after midnight to ensure they weren't robbed of 50 coins. With the gym that's near-by, I like to wait until everyone has their 50 coins and taking it down first thing.
The only other benefit of gyms is that they're a good place to spend those berries for stardust and potential candy. When I first got back into it, I thought you had to actually be at the gym, but if you simply look at the Today tab in the binoculars section and scroll down you can select the Pokemon and do it that way.

It would be good if you could farm candy from gyms. Say +1 candy of that Pokemon for every 24 hours it's in a gym. Something like that. A small but significant reward.
Didn't know about that remote spending berries trick, cheers! Guess that's another use for gyms - you can spend berries without having to travel.

The BDSP event is live in Australia and I just finished my first session.
It happened to coincide with the Turtwig Spotlight hour and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I thought in that hour it would just be normal spawns, but it was the costumed variant which means none of them can be evolved. I did snag a shiny during that hour so I can live with that.
I completed the collection task and saw a bunch of Arons.
I had to spend one of my remote raid passes, so I joined a Cresselia raid and hosted my own. Cresselia was surprisingly tough even with a proper team, defensively the monster is a beast. Apparently it's a really good monster to farm for PVP but I'll be looking at different raids moving forward.
I bought the Good Ball Event Box and hatched a bunch of eggs. I managed to get Mime Jr which was the main one I was after since it's a UK exclusive and all I need is a Riolu. I've already gone through my Super Incubators so the plan is to finish up these regular incubators, hatch the 5km that have been filling up my eggs and just go ham with more eggs.

I'm on a short vacation, still within the UK. First Pokemon I encountered was a Machamp WHAT THE HELL. Later on I did some battles, won a few and got an encounter as a reward. Can you guess what I found? Nope, not a Pikachu. TERRAKION! A random motherfucking TERRAKION. Screw raids, battles are the way to go.
