Bruce Almighty is a weird movie for me , I remember liking it alot when I first seen it and it made like #7 on my list I believe but it's also a movie I haven't went and revisited in some time.
Looking back it was probably Carrey's last real gasp at being a truly bankable comedic actor and the movie did incredible at the box office , far better than I expected anyways. Then again when you book Morgan Freeman as God , it's going to draw.

And then Steve had to go and sign on for Evan Almighty... Wtf? Bruce strikes me as the best of Carrey's last grasp batch of movies (including Yes Man, Fun with Dick & Jane, etc.) where he was still trying to capture the magic of Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, etc.

That's exactly what it was , and to his credit it was ultimately successful at the box office , and polarized with the critics as I assume most of his brand of humor is going to be.
I haven't looked at his comedic success going forward but I can't imagine it was anything too great. I don't think I enjoyed a comedy of his after this.

Bruce Almighty was #4 on my list. Keep in mind I DO NOT watch Jim Carrey for serious dramatic role so my list is ranked entirely on how hard each movie made me laugh more so than their overall quality. And for all it's flaws Bruce Almighty had me cracking up in certain parts.

Bruce was my #8. Only seen it once and a repeat viewing may have bumped it off my list. Remember liking it tho.

Too preachy for my likings, and I had a lot of problems with Jennifer Anniston’s character. Had some funny bits but eh.

I think Bruce Almighty ended up in my top half, not because I think it's great but because there are only a handful of Carey films I think are. It's a fun, harmless film with a good central performance and an interesting idea.

That means one of my movies doesn't make it, Bruce Almighty didn't make my cut, I enjoy it well enough, and the concept starts off pretty great, but the latter portion of the movie falls off steeply, moves away from the comedy, and the drama isn't really all that compelling.

I remember liking The Cable Guy a lot , and didn't even understand the irony at the time because I remember watching it on the pay channels during sick days or rainy summer days constantly. It was in the loop forever so I ended up seeing it a lot.
It's an interesting movie overall , not a typical Carrey comedy but probably the first one that really allowed him to tap into some of those demons and go a little dark with his character. It plays almost better as a thriller than a comedy and maybe that's why I enjoy it a little more than I should. I still adore the karaoke scene , probably my favorite of the movie by a longshot.
Other than that it's got a pretty good surrounding cast with some good cameos by future stars and other comedians (Garafolo , Jack Black , Stiller , Andy Dick , Owen Wilson , David Cross all appear in this movie).
Also it was a really weird decision at the time , he was arguably the most bankable actor in Hollywood and definitely most bankable comedy star and he was at the HEIGHT of his superstardom and chooses this bound to be polarizing , weird movie.

I love The Cable Guy.
To UT’s point, Carrey was the most bankable star in Hollywood at this time. I’m pretty sure he was the first actor to get $20MM for a role with The Cable Guy too.

I hate that it's already here since it was my #2. I love this movie. My favorite part has always been during the weird dream sequence where he's knocking on the door and pretending to walk away despite being seen in the peep hole. There's a ton of good shit too. Red Knight Going Down... Hey Man Nice Shot... and I always got a kick out of him talking about playing Mortal Kombat in Vietnam. That seems standard in 2018, but was that really possible in 96? Great movie that I have sadly not seen in a good 5+ years.

Cable Guy was my #9 and to be honest it only made the list because I needed to fill it. It just didn't hit the right notes for me at all in terms of comedy. I probably should have ranked it #10 for being a comedy that pretty much failed to make me laugh.

It's been forever since I've seen Cable Guy.
I remember going into my first viewing that the general response was that people hated it. It was weird, but I didn't hate it. In fact, I weirdly liked it.
It's stuck with me enough to earn a spot in my bottom five.
Didn't realize Stiller directed this, and totally forgot about that stacked supporting/cameo roster.

It’s my number four. I caught it a few weeks ago on cable. His lisp being cured then coming back was hilarious.

Cable Guy was one of those I hated when I first saw, because I was young, and it wasn't what I was expecting from Jim Carrey...years later and years older, I rewatched it and found a new appreciation for the dark comedy. Still only reached the bottom of my list though.

The Cable Guy seems to have this reputation that leaves audiences pleasantly surprised. I know that was my reaction when I saw it around 10 years ago, almost out of curiosity more than anything else. I think what made the movie more palatable, at least in the 2000s was that it was co-written by Judd Apatow and by that point his style of comedy had really taken over the box office. Otherwise, my memory of the movie is extremely foggy and I'm having a tough time remembering much about it other than the basic set-up. I'm also getting a cold-reading about a sequence in a restraunt being the highlight of the movie, but I'm struggling for specifics.
Bruce Almighty may have been the first Jim Carrey movie I saw in theatres and I remember it being pretty solid. Jim Carrey had a rare blood type, he was literally able to lasso a moon ala It's A Wonderful Life and winning the lottery ended up being a massive disappointment because everyone got to win. Morgan Freeman made a pretty decent god as well, maybe Nic Cage might be out of a job?

I love Me, Myself and Irene so much , up until about 6 months ago it was always number one on my list for Carrey movies but it's down to number two now. Still though it remains my favorite Carrey comedy of them all and I find it criminally underrated overall.
It's probably the raunchiest of all his comedies , which is nice. It is endlessly quotable and a laugh a minute - I love that Carrey is able to explore his normal goody two shoes character in Charlie and the evil Hank is makes you constantly take spit takes. It's almost as if he's a combination of Stanley Ipkiss and Chip The Cable Guy.
Zellweger showed some great comedic chops as well , and Anderson carries a lot of the load.
If you haven't seen it , I'd recommend it. I'd put it above all his more iconic comedies as far as pure laughs go. Especially if you are looking for an edgier Carrey comedy.

MMI just barley made my list @ #10. I don't recall too much about it, but it at least was one I had seen. The only thing I really remember was them calling one guy a Q-Tip.

Not really my taste in comedy. Seemed crass for the sake of being crass most of the time. I’ve only watched it the one time though, I guess it could be better.

Only one movie from my Top-10 list has made it so far, and that was The Cable Guy at 6. Didn't have Bruce Almighty (echoing mikec, "Bruce Almighty" is too preachy and "Me, Myself and Irene" seemed crass for the sake of the Farrley Brothers outdoing "There's Something About Mary." Both films had amazing Jim Carrey performances, IMO, but the movies themselves were both "meh." 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The Cable Guy 7. 8. 9. 10.

I thought I'd seen all the big Jim Carrey movies, then another one pops up that I haven't seen. Done by the same people who did There's Something About Mary? Eh. I'll pass. I think that film is garbage.

Might put up another one today as we covered The Mask not too long ago , as I said before I remember loving the movie as a kid and it will always hold a place in my heart but I don't think it holds up nearly as well as other Carrey comedies. Still though it deserves credit for being the movie that pretty much propelled him into superstardom. And for Cameron Diaz debuting at her peak hotness.
