lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, pansexual, two-spirit (2S), androgynous, and asexual, kink.
Wow, that's a lot. A couple of the gay friends I spoke to on this feel that many of the additional letters should just be under queer. And that it waters things down to include so many. Queer is a good catch-all. LGBTQQIP2SAAK+ sure as hell isn't catchy and takes up a bit of space on a sign for pride parades. Some people make one of the A's ally. Which apparently some people don't appreciate.
Feels like fluid gender or gender fluid should be getting a letter too soon.
Do we need a D for drag performers?
In your opinion, can there be too much or can it get too far? Is it getting washed out and losing impact?

I’ve noticed a current trend lately of Gay and Lesbian people abandoning the “queer community” and feel like the wider aspects don’t represent them, most citing the wedding case cake. This is only a small sample though, but that’s my experience,
My mothers partner has the lgbT flag absolutely everywhere around their house and always goes to Mardi Gras...yet when my sister decided to identify as a transgender male she was the least accepting and wouldn’t refer to her as “He.” I think it’s ridiculous as well, but I don’t attend events in the lgbt community, which by definition includes transgenders?

I have quite a few friends that identify as gay or queer, and I've never seen any of them acknowledge this huge acronym. They all use LGBTQ, some throw in the + at the end, but that's it.
One of them was the community ambassador in the city I lived in at the time and he didn't even use it.
I think it's a non-issue with most of the community, and if you use LGBTQ when referring to them, most people won't give a shit.

The amount of threads you start that circle back to the LGBTQ+ community is fascinating.
No one is going to be happy with every category, but to RT's point, the broad acceptance I've seen from friends, colleagues and organizations I've worked with is the LGBTQ+ Community.

I think in 2018, most of us are tolerant. But too much of anything can have the opposite effect it wanted. Names, labels, pronouns - and the forced adoption of such, whatever the far-left is cooking up today often invites ridicule and incites or provokes a response.
You're gay. I don't care. Are you happy? Great. Move on.

It's probably the T that's messed it all up, before then it was about sexual preference not gender identity which is different. I mean it's easier to accept that everyone has a right to be with the person they love... to the idea that society must reject all of their norms because of how it affects my picture of who I am.

Identify is an interesting word in some situations. "I identify" as sounds a bit like a choice to me. Even when I fill out a job application and it says "I identify as a member of the military". I know it is voluntary to share the information with the potential employer. But it still sounds like a choice in my head. Either you served or you didn't.

I don't think the amount of groups matters. At the end of the day, it's a group of people who don't follow a heternormative lifestyle and have to deal with all the awkwardness that entails.
It's a new world out there in a lot of ways and I think we're all finding it difficult to adapt. However, that isn't to say an effort isn't being made and I think we've made a lot of progress, even with the political climate the way that it is. It may seem like a turbulent time now, but in 10-20 years time it's going to be a lot better for everyone.
