Now I'm sure we all heard the news yesterday.
For the first time since 2000, we are going to bear witness to WarGames. And it seems as though many fans are filled with excitement and are thrilled over the decision to hold the match in WWE for the first time ever.
However, the news leaves me very concerned. The fan base has changed dramatically since WarGames was a hot commodity in WCW and there are many matches that were popular when wrestling was in the big boom periods that have been done in present time and nine times out of ten, it fell flat on it's face.
The thing about WarGames is that the rules and booking philosophies behind it make things very constrained, and I don't think it is going to translate well with today's fans in today's era. I know I've heard the idea expressed that these matches have to be booked a certain way - the heels get the advantage, gang up on the face(s), then the next face comes out (like a hot tag), repeat. It just seems so constrained and limiting and I think once the match comes around, that is going to be a very popular complaint amongst many fans.
I'm not saying the match itself will be bad, as there is some great talent involved, but this match has never been done in a WWE ring, this meaning the bookers have never been in a situation where they have to put a match such as WarGames all together. What leaves me even more concerned is that there's no Dusty Rhodes to be involved in booking as this was one of many of his brainchildren.
So as it stands now, I don't think this is going to work and unless I am proven wrong, it should never be done in WWE again after this upcoming TakeOver.

The beauty is if it flops... well it's NXT, so it doesn't count. It's a test. Plus if it does flop... well it wasn't "real" war games.

It won't flop. It's in front of a very, very nice, very, very forgiving NXT crowd. They'll eat it up.
It will be an absolute spot fest.

I thought it was great. Worked very well after being adapted to modern times.

How were you right? Your prediction was the match wouldn't work, and it did work because it was an enjoyable match. The rules did not detract from the match. You were wrong.

Thought it was great.
I could imagine it being an even bigger event, a bigger match with The Shield, The New Day, etc. Main roster talent involved.

Usually when people make bold claims and are proven wrong they don't bring the topic up ever again and hope people forget. Learn something new every day...

Are we sure these are actually Dukes opinions? He could have just stolen them from Reddit again. :suspic:

Wait, so for those of us who didn't watch...
Did it work or not?
What was changed from the original WarGames format in an attempt to make it work?

Wait, so for those of us who didn't watch... Did it work or not? What was changed from the original WarGames format in an attempt to make it work?ld The match worked fine, I rather enjoyed it myself, yes changes were made, but it didn't distract from the match in my opinion. As for changes... 1. Instead of team members coming in one at a time, it was whole teams entering at a time, which I get given it was three teams... as an example (not the order they came in, as not to spoil anything), Roderick Strong, Alexander Wolfe, and Bobby Fish start the match, after several minutes a new entrant enters, instead of say just Eric Young, it would be both Eric Young and Killian Dain entering the match, so it would be all three members of Sanity vs. Roderick Stong vs. Bobby Fish, until a new team enters the match. 2. Instead of the wrestlers standing around the outside of the cage, they had to wait inside a shark cage, which makes sense, as it prevents the teams from fighting on the outside, like they have for the last couple of weeks. 3. The top of the cage was open like a standard cage match, instead of being closed off like it usually is ala Hell in a Cell, but not really a big deal, since leaving the cage meant forfitting the match for your team anyways. Yes, changes were made, but like I said, it didn't hinder the match at all, at least not for me anyways. Hell, to be honest, I was more disappointed that they acted like Eric Young has never competed in anything like War Games, when Young has taken part in Lethal Lockdown, which is essentially a modern day version of War Games, but it's a minor nitpick, and I get why they did that.

I think people were screeching over nothing at the roof change. Almost every Lethal Lockdown has been entertaining, and thats been crammed into one cage, where the roof doesn't appear til the end, and they still usually wound up outside anyway. Vince (reports say it was him) made the right changes here. If the teams weren't locked up, whats stopping them from fighting eachother outside the cage? Why handicap what you can do in the match by having a roof there? (Though, that decision was probably Vince looking through the old matches, seeing Brian Pillman nearly die because of the roof, and Vince balking at that.)

Just love how much mileage they've been getting outta the shark cage.

I thought the match was perfectly fine, it delivered in entertainment and excitement. The changes didn't bother me as much as it did others and I don't think it affected it any differently, at least in my opinion.

It was a fun match, and in true IWC style - the more people overthink it, the more critical people will be. It was a fun, good match.
