It's difficult to disagree. Despite being in the sub-main event spot at WrestleKingdom, Alpha vs. Omega proved to be the bigger attraction and the more memorable bout. Then he went full-blown babyface and drew the biggest gate in ROH history against Cody during Wrestlemania weekend. Then to cap it all off, he dethroned Kazuchika Okada in the 'greatest match of all-time'. Toss in his G-1 campaign and the Golden Lovers reunion and it's nearly impossible to disagree.
Admittedly, I'm disappointed not to see Johnny Wrestling or Kota Ibushi among the Top 10. I guess it's a matter of credentials, but Gargano has been a key ingredient in four successful TakeOver cards while Ibushi has made some great strides after his inauspicious return to New Japan. I can see why the others are there, including Cody who has 'All In' as a clincher, but they and Tommaso Ciampa would be certainties in my Top 10.

I can’t see who Gargano and Ciampa replace though. Every person in the top 10 had a much bigger year. Keep in mind kayfabe is considered in this list.
Also I bet when we see the rest of the list they’ll fall in the top 25 for sure, which would still be a massive accomplishment. Johnny Gargano was 80th last year and I don’t think Ciampa made the list because of his injury. Both of them will make a massive jump this year, I bet.
I wonder where Adam Cole lands. He was 14th last year and I’d argue he had a better year this year. He’s certainly far more popular, and he won the NA title.
Just goes to show how subjective the top 500 is, though. If Adam Cole drops spots is it because he had a worse year or because others improved more than he did? They never really say. And it’s Impossible for all fans to agree on such a thing. It’s like listing the best bands of the year or best movies. A metalhead is going to disagree if a rapper tops the list, etc.
I can’t see any disagreements with Omega though. Even if you don’t watch NJPW you can just look at the things he accomplished this year and agree.
Nice to see Cody with such a big jump. Much deserved.

The Top 10 mostly makes sense to me. The only objection I have is Strowman in the Top 10. Not only that, but he's above Roman Reigns, which is inexplicable. Reigns main evented Wrestlemania while Strowman was in a goofy piss break/cooldown match. Pretty sure Reigns would have main evented a lot more PPVs than Strowman, and he dethroned Brock.

Considering there war of words it probably hurts Cody that Reigns is one above him. Then again they probably don't take this list too seriously.

Strowman in the top 10 does make sense given the fact he had arguably the most successful year kayfabe-wise (mega-push, ambulance spots, MITB winner, two catchphrases catching fire with the crowd, etc), but he should be at 8 or 9. Considering there war of words it probably hurts Cody that Reigns is one above him. Then again they probably don't take this list too seriously. Cody strikes me as the kind of guy who isn't completely happy unless he's #1, which is a good mentality to have. I think he'd be proud that he jumped so far in one year and is nipping at Roman's heels.

I always thought the PWI 500 was pretty much entirely kayfabe. Samoa Joe held the ROH Title for all but the last 5 days of 2004 and didn't make the top 30 because of the perceived kayfabe standing of that company. NXT is a level below WWE in kayfabe, so the top guys there can't be at the tippy top.
