How long would it take to fix this? me - Hard to say with out looking at it. boss - I'm thinking so and so many hours. me - Hard to say with out looking at it. call 2 boss - hey, I'm looking for these parts do you know where they are? me - did you ask the parts guy. boss - he's at lunch and I don't want to bother him me - oh, try looking in this area. There was probably 2,000 people total at my work tonight.
Workload divided into 3 bars (+ tray service in gaming) but it was still absolutely insanity.

So bartending is one of the few jobs you don’t hate Mondays.
It’s 4:30pm Monday afternoon and we have on 1 receptionist, 1 gaming attendant and 1 bartender (me).
This lady comes in half and hour before her function and asks me if I get someone to re-arrange the entire function room. This is a room that can fit 500 people theatre style so it would take hours.
This function room they are getting for free (it normally costs $380 per night to hire) I politely tell her there is no one that can help but I’ll try to contact the supervisor (who isn’t in for an hour). Luckily the catering manager turned up as I made my way to reception…and went up and told her the same thing. She then asked why the staff couldn’t do it.
The fact there was only one person per section and none of us could spare a few hours to help here right there and then just didn’t compute 🤦🏻♀️.

Work kicked my ass today. Urinal began flooding the building so once I was able to shut it off I got to cleanup while I hear nonstop bitching from my coworkers. Had to shoo away all "help" because they were just getting in the way and fucking shit up. Sorry fam I'll make sure to be more accommodating in future plumbing emergencies.

I have one co-worker who is fiercely private. It's almost strange how private she and her hubby are, but that's their choice and I try to respect it.
My boss however lost her shit yesterday because she couldn't get ahold of this co-worker-ON MY CO WORKERS DAY OFF-by the number she provided. This number is a Teams phone number provided by our boss' boss to my co worker, as she chose not to have a work provided phone. None of us have her personal number or email and my boss thought this was beyond the pale as she feels the company should be able to contact an employee should they need to. My thought is after work hours, an employees' time is their own and if they don't want to pick up their phone they don't have to.
What say you?

Good for her for having boundaries. Is her job so important that only she has the information needed in an emergency? Or can this wait until she's back? I'm happy to spend 2 mins answering a phone call to provide info on a day off (it is a work provided phone so that's part of the deal).

Depends on the job and work environment but ultimately if a phone isn't a job function I say it depends on management. Decent team and I got no issue picking up or shooting a text. Psycho managers who waste police resources by calling in welfare checks for not picking up deserve to be blocked.
I don't like the "what text" game employees play. It suggests you aren't willing to stand up for yourself so you're not fixing the issue. Plus texts are a decent paper trail.
Outside a probationary period your time off is yours unless you're on call which I assume you're salary anyways.

Honestly, it's because they were going to meet up today so my boss could give my co-worker her 5 year award plaque as my coworker works strictly from home now. It's not remotely an emergency other than my boss is supposed to take a picture to placate the higher ups. It can 100% be done after Christmas. My boss has no significant other, no kids and no close family so days off and family time are foreign concepts to her. I have horrific boundaries when it comes to work and co-workers.

Agreed which is what I was trying to tell her but she went off about how they/the company should have a valid number/email to get ahold of her 'in case'. In case of what? She's worked for you for 5 years and you've never needed it before, now because you want to parade her like a prize pony during her booked time off (of which both her and her son are sick), she should be available to you?
I agree the boss should leave her alone, but do you think a company has the right to your personal phone and email just 'in case'? that one is a bit tougher because I don't necessarily disagree so long as it's not going to be abused, which this scenario shows it would have been.

Many people at my company have work phones so they can be contacted when they are not in the office or outside of regular working hours in an emergency.
Some of my colleagues use their personal phones as a work phone, they have Teams installed and so on. That is something I refuse to do.
I don't mind being contacted when I'm on leave if it's a simple information request, my team do have my personal number normally used for casual reasons, but anything beyond that, nope. My boundaries are pretty strong in this topic, and fortunately I've not heard any stories from my company abusing it.

iron maiden yes, work should have your personal cell/home phone number if they haven't provided you with a company phone. Doesn't mean you have to ever respond to a call/text though.

I'm going to play devils advocate. She 100% has th a right to be unreachable on her day off, though the work has a right to emergency contact details, she's not obligated to answer... Especially as most manager crisis type events are disorganisation by the managers themselves. However, if I was her boss and working out bonuses or promotions, that person would be at the ottom of my list, an unwillingness to be unavailable means you're not a team player. I am fiercely private about certain details, I absolutely don't have my home address on any piece of information related to my business, I don't want my customers or suppliers to know where or how I live. I will talk about my girls or maybe show a photo to someone, but no pictures online...

I agree with boundaries, and it was a small part of my decision to leave my previous employer. Having to essentially be reachable 24/7 was like having an ankle monitor on. And the anxiety it causes having an expectation to answer or you're in a small way in trouble.
I was criticised more than once for not answering my phone on a day off or replying to an email despite the severity being incredibly low and actually being busy doing something.
It's unfair and, I believe very strongly in balance. Not so much " work life balance " in that sense, but because I don't let my personal life impact my work, my work should not invade my home life.

I am old school mindset. I get that. I also get that people are sick and entitled to sick days, but I rarely take sick days anymore especially since I work from home. When I am REALLY sick I might take an extra long lunch and nap or do all my orders when I am able between resting, but I rarely take a whole day because again I feel that since I am able to work from home and able to rest, that I am doing my part not spreading germs and resting where I can.
Today all the sites are back and ramping up after 2-3 weeks off so you can imagine how crazy it's been since 5am this morning. To make matters worse my co-worker that I cover for took a sick day. I'm a bit annoyed because I told him Friday all my sites were back and I already had 15 orders I was waiting for approvals on for this morning. I also happen to know he plays hockey and goes for beers Sunday nights with the boys so I am a bit suspicious though I do know there are colds and flus going around like crazy. But is his the 26oz flu or the actual flu?
Regardless, do you believe someone who works form home should be/have the same sick day entitlement that someone who has to go into the office has?

But is his the 26oz flu or the actual flu? Regardless, do you believe someone who works form home should be/have the same sick day entitlement that someone who has to go into the office has? I do. I mean I see your side of it’s and it’s perfectly fine if you want to do you that way. And I can see why it’s frustrating to you that a coworker doesn’t operate the same way. But to be frank it’s a you problem. Look at it this way the company is going to take everything it’s entitled too therefore I believe (and again your mileage may vary), I earned my sick time. So when Im sick I will take it. I also don’t find it heroic when people work sick. Or have perfect attendance… that’s just sucker behavior. No one at your school or your job is gonna remember you worked all the time. The only people who will remember that are the people who missed you while you were gone. And I want to be healthy for them. Working sick just means you’re sick longer. And probably contagious longer. Sure sure working from home is different but why shouldn’t I get the time paid I’ve earned? The man gets enough from me, when I’m sick And he’s giving me paid time I’m takin it. It’s not my fault that it hurts other employees either… it’s the companies. Hire more help, gotta spend money to make money.

Exactly what All34LOL said. A subconscious part of me shares your sucker mindset, I do feel guilty every time I call my boss to tell him I'm sick, and I was sick more times last year than any other year in my life, but it doesn't stop me making that call. Fortunately my boss and my company as a whole are super understanding and actively encourage you to take time off when you're sick, even if it's "mild". If it's something like a minor cold I will work from home, because I can work without much suffering or impact on my productivity. Anything else, it's a day off.

Get off my lawn! Listen it’s hard. I’ve had that “do it for the company family bullshit mentality” beaten into me by mediocre leaders my entire life. I understand your feelings, like Emperor said I feel guilty sometimes. But understand and this is for everyone here not just you. That guilt is bullshit. It’s not your fault that companies Allllll companies are to cheap to have built in redundancies. I show up. On time. And overproduce compared to my pay scale, everyday. I consistently receive “exceeds expectations “ on my reviews every year. I’m fucking invaluable. And fuck some shit leader who wants to not pay me a bonus because I didn’t answer the phone on my time. That’s just vindictive has nothing to do with performance. Or whether an employee can be counted on.
