After 4 months of employment at the foundry doing sales, I have not a productive role at all. Big tobacco came by and offered me a promotion into a management role. So, I am leaving the foundry and going back to tobacco. It is amazing how far behind the times the foundry is in terms of the sales organization. They literally had no direction of making any money from me. I never got a territory assigned to me. I created my own territory from helping others. They just started looking at profit margins on their sales this last year. Before that, it was all about selling volume, no matter the price. They send two product managers to 8 shows per year and no one has looked at return on investment. It's crazy.

found·ry /ˈfoundrē/ Learn to pronounce noun a workshop or factory for casting metal
4 months. Go out in the street and look at the manhole. They probably made it.

My main frustration right now is there’s a new plan daily at my job. We started the week open to the public, then letting ten customers in, then letting those customers in only if they washed their hands first, then to appointment only, then to appointment or real need, etc.
The virus has probably made my work site twenty times more essential than it was two weeks ago, so I get that there’s panic and it came on quick but being a manager that has to change gears daily really doesn’t build calm among the team.

I think you have a right to request gloves and masks if you are dealing one on one, close with the public. If people don't wash their hands with soap for the full 30 seconds, don't bother. If it was me, I would probably bring my own or only meet through screens.

But at a time where morale is already at an all time low, the constant scramble to set up new processes you only keep for a day only drops them lower.

At the end of our set of work days today at the mine the chatter amongst most employees is that we expect the mine to shut down temporarily (hopefully only temporarily) very soon. Like we're expecting to not be at work next set. Price of copper dropped 15% in a week, and it was already low. Yay, unemployment!

"After 10,000 years i'm free!"
So after 13 years I have left my job as security guard at a library and I'm now a security guard at a large park/Zoo. It is funny only a week after leaving they shut down the library for Corona concerns and sent everyone to work at a hospital. So dodged a bullet there lol. I went from being a Site Supervisor at the library to back to being a regular guard but make $5/hr more than I did as a supervisor. The new place is well..a lot. There is much more duties than the library but at least instead of meth heads I'll be dealing with just drunk people picnicking and kids with skinned knees and people banging in cars. The main issue I do have is that where as the library had 6 guards on duty for some reason the park only has 2 guards per shift(3 in summer) but your expected to do a ton of duties that make having only two guards dealing with it very unrealistic. Your expected to patrol the park and Zoo and deal with any and all issues the arise, respond to any and all requests to open doors throughout the several buildings in the park, do fire alarm testing and many, many other duties that having only two or three guards on duty doesn't make it safe or realistic for working in a large park and very popular Zoo in the summer

I was on a conference call yesterday where my sites were bitching about not being able to source PPE (personal protective equipment), toilet paper, etc due to this. I had to hold my tongue because I wondered to myself if they were blind, deaf and dumb because we've been hearing about COVID since end of November and beginning of the new year our group (Supply Chain) sent out a letter to everyone warning them that they should jump on stocking up then instead of after the fact. Do you know how many sites complied? ONE. One site.
Our higher ups made us send whatever masks, gloves, disposable coveralls we had to the hospitals in the US (we are a US based company) because you know we don't have any hospitals here who need those things.
Now the rest are complaining my group is useless. Suddenly their lack of planning and foresight has fallen on our shoulders and we are to pull masks and wipes from our assholes to appease them. If I could do that I'd have a show in Vegas. One guy actually wanted my boss to drive around Edmonton to look for hand sanitizer and wipes (this was two weeks ago during the extreme hoarding phase). To make matters worse the CEO actually blamed us on the call...more than once. Wha? Huh? We can't buy anything without someone's consent and coding and he's the same one who told us to ship what we had stockpiled to the US. Of course he didn't tell anybody that part.
I've been direct from the start for anyone looking for those things. 'So there's this global pandemic going around, perhaps you've heard of it. At any rate, you are likely to find a flying purple unicorn before you find some masks. If you'd like I can fashion something out of some maxi pads and string?'

we are to pull masks and wipes from our assholes to appease them. Certainly more entertaining than a rabbit from a hat. I got in the bad books with two of my customers by exposing them to Covid-19, and one was really crappy about it, even though I did the right thing by informing them. Nobody got sick, they just got upset about the required levels of paperwork.

I’m still technically employed but obviously no work at the moment so I can’t complain but the comments on my works FB page are hilarious. Saw one regular stocking up at the bottle-o at 8am, I also got stopped in the street this morning (I was grocery shopping) with someone asking me when it re-opens. Pretty disappointed when I told them probably in 6 months or so. I can’t imagine how much bootlegging there would be in Australia if the bottle shops shut also. When all promotions had to stop: —— A) my work has already done $10m of renovations, the latest only completed in November. B) Yes with all that future revenue coming in? People are dying Kim my mother works at a supermarket and she’s loving life atm 😒. sandylea ‘s work is still open and it’s a board game shop. Guess puzzles really are essential.

So today my boss decided to leave work in the middle of the day to do groceries (not on her lunch hour). For some reason she thought it would be quicker as it wasn't peak hours. First of all, there's a ton of people off work so there are no such thing as 'peak hours' anymore. Most places are only allowing so many people in the store at a time so she got stuck waiting 45 minutes just to get in. Secondly, if one of us did that (other than on our lunch hour) she'd lose her ever loving shit.

I really hate how every supervisor/boss in the history of ever thinks adding more people to a job suddenly means it gets done faster/more can get done in the same amount of time. For instance thanks to corona-chan they have me doing extra sanitizing around the office. They brag about giving me "extra help" when they really just get in my way more than anything. All the extra sanitizing has done is just get in the way of my downtime rather than result in "extra" work for me. But whatever I just let the help do whatever inside and I do some outside work like mowing or branch maintenance.
Just annoyed how it's so common to think it works that way. Must be an entry MBA course or something. If it takes me an hour to sweep and mop the floor, adding a 2nd person does not mean it'll only take 30 minutes if I still only have one mop.

I'm genuinely nervous and scared about the USPS dying or being privatized. While I don't see things getting to that level and I'll have unemployment and adjustment to do as I'm sure I'll find something elsewhere if worse came to worse and they just gutted everything (ain't no way a private company is paying 23/hr for a custodian) but fuck me it has me thinking about being homeless and blowing my head off the stress is really getting to me.

Whoa man, where is this coming from? I thought USPS keeps getting subsidized somehow, and is reasonably secure? Like, who's going to privatize it? UPS or FedEx? I assume privatizing USPS would be so complicated and fraught with threatened lawsuits and union negotiations and shit, you'd be somewhat taken care of for a bit if it all did come to pass. And as scary as change is, I bet you you'd look sexy as fuck in those UPS brown short shorts. Or no interested in stepping up as the next Kevin James King of Queens? If you prefer custodial work, what about something like becoming a handyman for the wealthy? Do the same kind of odd jobs here and there, probably fetch the same or better pay? Happy to spitball ideas for contingency plans if you need that or think it would help. Hang in there, brotha. As Wife has to remind me from time to time, no job is worth your life.

It may be a bit dramatic as this has been doom and gloom for us since e-mail. Package volume keeps going up for sure, but maybe things would be better if we were totally free to act as a business (since they want to treat us like one) and not engage in shitty deals. The Amazon "deal" was anything but. We lose money on every package we deliver for them and we even deliver on Sunday for them. They basically used the postal service to get their logistics in order. They've dumped a lot of offices to deliver their own. Except on X-Mas because they can't handle it. They can't walk away from us, but if they could you know they would.
UPS dumps their shit on us if it's not profitable (read: rural) and I'm not sure if they even pay us for that or not. I just know a UPS guys brings several skids for us every day. Seems odd, like Target dumping trucks at Walmart and saying fuck you guys do this shit. If you aren't gonna deliver it, then don't take it!
It would be a total disaster if we stopped functioning or went private. My goal was to just ride the janitor thing as long as can, God willing to 60. If not, maybe another job in the postal service. I guess that's what I can still do. Just ride out this wave and see where it takes me. If things just go splat I could try my hand at factory work or sanitation. Maybe not make as much, but probably close and if need be get a second part-time gig.
My only issue with the private sector is as a federal employee I contribute to a shitty pension and TSP. I'm sure they'll have their own 401k equivalent, but certainly no pension. 25 years from now it's certainly a pipe dream for retirement anyways.
This is of course just a bunch of rumors. Nothing in stone, so hopefully it's not a case of me showing up to work one day with a sign on the door that says GOOD LUCK FUCKERS. LMAO.

What's the deal on the pension? Have to have certain amount of continuous time in service to collect, or is it a proportionate payout once you're done?

What's the deal on the pension? Have to have certain amount of continuous time in service to collect, or is it a proportionate payout once you're done? It's FERS, the federal pension system. Something like they average the highest 3 years of pay x 1% x each year of service (I think). So if I top @ 50 and I'm in for 20 years it amounts to 1k a month and combine that with SS (lol) and TSP and it basically will equal what I get paid now.
I think you have to go to retirement age to collect, but you only need 5 years of service to get it so if you started @ 55 you could collect whatever that ends up being, like one meatball sub a month.

Lazy, incompetent people make me grumpy. We have a massive black hole between the sites and AP. Our AP (accounts payable)insist on having hard copies of all invoices which when you are spread out is damn inconvenient. Also, emails make people more accountable. I am certain that's part of it. Once they accept the email they can't say 'we didn't get them'.
I hand delivered them a pile of invoices in February that needed to be paid ASAP as they were from September onwards. Yesterday my vendor gets ahold of me saying we were sitting in their 'bad debt' section because not one was paid. So I get ahold of the lady I handed them to and she says 'do you have the signed copies'. NO, I don't have the signed copies because I GAVE THEM TO YOU TO PAY 3 MONTHS AGO!!!

Every time I sneak an off day in shit goes to hell. I rarely work 5 day weeks. In 2 yrs I've probably had 10 Saturdays off and 4 of those were when I was Luke Harpering. Monday a holiday I took a much needed Saturday off.
Tuesday place is on fire. Trash is insane in the lobby. Granted that's 3 days of no emptying but fuck me. Boiler is fucking leaking and who knows when the maintenance guys will get to because management never turns in my work orders.
And yet I'm not allowed to have gummies. Fuck this gay earth. This is supposed a stress free cake job but I get punished for not coming ib. Oh look empty pizza boxes in the breakroom. Evidently when I'm not here they have pizza parties.
I wanna die.
