- Members Only entry - Mandatory temperature check upon entry. - Sign in and OUT of club.
50 people per area (50 main lounge, 50 poker/slot machines, 50 dining..all functions cancelled as of writing)
br]With limited booking of 10 at restaurant.
No word on whether patrons will be allowed to wear masks, staff meeting tomorrow. Man am I glad I don’t work the reception desk.
The FB announcement is 90% people in their 70s asking when bingo and cabaret come back.

So with work re opening:
50 people per the 3 areas operating in the club. Members only, people may join on the spot.
To come in you MUST provide: - Full Name - Phone Number - undergo a temperature check - tell us what area of the club you plan to utilise (main bar/gaming/dining..all function rooms closed). If you plan to move between areas (ie go to the Pokies after the bar...there is a checkpoint). - if you leave the dining area and want to go to bar...you must leave and enter the line up again. - sign out once they leave.
Also general rules:
- must stay 1.5m away from other patrons unless family or spouses. - If someone puts their membership card in a poker machine..the one next to them automatically locks up if not in use (players can’t sit next to each other unless family or spouse)
Also we just type the membership number in of patrons instead of swiping their cards...which a guy went off his rocket at me for doing just before we shut. Can’t wait to serve him again now it’s strictly enforced, EADC 😂.
The CEO of the club redirected the courtesy bus phone number to his mobile number...he had 24/7 calls about people asking to come in while we were shut.
He’s also taking over the operations manager position from previous manager that yelled at us and told us we were all replaceable, the irony. Also strongly believed she was fucking the cellarman I bitched about earlier in the thread, even staff at other bars were talking about it before Covid : lol:
We had staff meeting today and as we have heaps of staff, the car park was full which meant people tried to come in. I walked out the door and straight away I encountered a guy who asked me if he could come in and have a slap (play slot machines )
No complaints from me as far as health guidelines go, however if I was a patron I’d just drink at home and have mates over as it’s almost as much of a pain the ass as going through the airport.

I assure you all, the unshakable dread is exclusively work-related. Maybe best thing that could happen is I get let go. Honestly, the way @ness has described it, USPS janitor/custodian sounds like maybe the way to go. Especially if they don't drug test once you're on board. Looking at having to work through the night tonight and over the weekend. Debating taking gummies to get through it. Working up something on a $10.9M-$35.4M+ problem no one wants to acknowledge or take accountability for. So all the work from the past two months, plus the stress in the moment now, will ultimately all be for naught as it'll all be thrown out. Ignored. And the later deaf ears won't hear "I told you so". If I'm quiet on PW the next 72 hours, it's probably any of the following or some combination thereof: - killing myself working for no point - paralyzed by panic attack I can no longer hold back - breaking down into tears in Wife's lap - self medicating with gummies, so much so I'll be too stones to function Unshakable dread. Blacks out the good. There is no hope. Just prayers for a quick and painless end. But fuck it, at this point I'll compromise and settle for pain. Unshakable. Fuck everything.

So I came in to the office today to set up my stuff for this week and to get caught up. I'm too tempted at home to take a nap, do laundry, etc.
There are 'step here' signs and signs about using hand sanitizer everywhere. That's great except that I went to the washroom and there wasn't any soap let alone hand sanitizer. You'd think instead of 3 by the front door they'd put some by the washrooms and in the shared kitchen space at least. Good thing I carry my own. Way to plan people.

Well I’m fucked.
I was notified last week that the company would no longer be paying for down time. Whenever I fill out my time sheet I enter hours spent on customer sites, then fill out whatever is left with shop time to ensure I get my full 40 hour week. I’ve been doing this for months because we’ve been slow and I haven’t had a problem.
So instead of laying me off so I can collect EI/CERB and find another job, they’re just refusing to honour our union agreement that guarantees me 40 hours. The company is arguing that time isn’t guaranteed in their own company policy and is willing to fight our union on it. The grievance was entered today and now I have to wait and see what happens.
I only had 17 billable hours last week and while I’m okay for the foreseeable future (sometime in mid July) anything after that is a crap shoot. In recent months because our company sucks and because of COVID, I’ve gone entire weeks without any billable hours.
And the worst part is if the company holds fast, they can just starve me out. I get this caught up in the grievance process (which could take months) and in the meantime I’ve got no work so I’m not getting paid. They just want me to quit so they don’t have to pay me a severance, but if I quit I can’t go on EI, so I’m fucked unless I find another job.
I’m going on vacation tomorrow and when I get back next week I should have an idea of how this is going to play out. The company has 5 days to respond to the grievance and if they don’t, it gets escalated. If that happens I’m going to have to start looking for other employment. I just don’t have the means to wait them out on this.
To say I’m furious is an understatement.

So my new job has been interesting. I got suspended for 3 weeks and nearly fired because I went to a staff BBQ... A little backstory. when I started I was told that the security department was like a "family" and they wanted people who will interact and communicate well with each other. They said in the summer they hold BBQ's at the park with the security staff so we get to know each other better. Now fast forward to the beginning of this month. I was told that there was going to be a BBQ around 6pm. Which is at the beginning of my shift. The Lead guard on my shift told me we are going to the BBQ to interact with our fellow guards. There was also a few park employees who are friendly with security there was well and a few former guards who have gone onto other law enforcement careers. So the Lead and I attend the BBQ, have some burgers. I chat with my fellow employees, trying to get to know them better. I have serious social anxiety in social settings so this was my way trying to better that and make my fellow employees trust me more. We were there for longer than I thought we should but I didn't say anything because well my lead and every other guard hadn't said anything about us being there. BBQ ends around 9pm and the Lead guard and I go off and do our various patrols and checks. Now he is where the issue comes. I found a door to a building unlocked when it isn't normally unlocked. I did check of the building. No issues found and I then arm it for the night. In post-Covid normally I check this building around 7-8pm, pre-covid it was usually locked and armed at 9pm as it was open to the public then. I didn't think anything of it. So the next day I'm woken up at 12pm(had gotten off at 6am) The security manager needs me to come in ASAP to talk about an incident from a few days earlier where when I was working with another guard(not the same one I was working with during the BBQ) who had gotten an argument with a male and the male complained. I go in and the security manager then drops a pad of paper in front of me and goes, "I want you to write out hour by hour what you did last night" I asked "Is this about the BBQ?"she goes "Yes" I then basically just re-write my daily report. Then then tells me "You are suspended pending termination...sorry I mean investigation" What then happens is a week long "investigation" where I am pulled into HR 3 different times, plus a phone conversation as well and grilled about Who was at the BBQ, was it approved by management , why did you think abandoning and delaying your patrols was ok, we have millions of dollars in assets here, what if something broke into the ZOO and jumped into the wolves etc. they asked these and similar questions several different ways. To my leads credit he took the blame and said he told me to be there but ultimately they suspended me for a total of 9 shifts(2 paid, 7 unpaid) and extended my probation to a full year. The lead guard was stripped of his lead position and rate of pay and now is a regular guard and suspended as well. They told me several times they could of fired me and that the union would have no say as I am on probation. Now one of my first shifts back with be on one of the busiest days of the year.
This whole thing as really soured the security department against management even more. We were already short staffed as it was due to Covic hiring restrictions and with now them suspending me and the other guard, they are having trouble filling shifts and several shifts over the past few weeks have had guards working alone. The current security manager was hired about month after I was and was brought in from outside. She is the type of manager who comes in and immediately wants to make changes and doesn't bother to see how everything had been working before they arrived. She tried to change all our schedules. Currently we work 4 days on, 4 days off, working 2 sets of 12 hour nights and 2 sets of 12 hour days. So basically 8 night shifts and then 8 day shifts. She tried to change it to only 1 set of nights and 1 set of days. So every week we would be switching between the 2 shifts. Thankfully after much push back from us all and threats of filing Health and safety and union complaints and a meeting with HR and the Union she backed down last week. I really like this job, I've lost weight from all the extra walking, I'm outside which is great most days but given that I'm on probation till March and have this hanging over my head I'm scared to make even the smallest mistake for fear of getting fired.

Man that’s rough. Sounds like management needs to communicate better. If the lead guard thought it was ok when it wasn’t, that shouldn’t be on you. I’m surprised you’re being punished that severely.
...
My prospects are looking a little brighter. I’m definitely going to have to change jobs, but I have some leads.
A company is hiring in Victoria and wants me to move, which I told them I’m not prepared to do. However they just opened an office in my city and hired a guy I know. They’re open to me working in Victoria for a while and moving to the Kelowna branch in the future when they have enough work to keep two of us busy.
However my main lead is another company here who have a guy who wants to transfer to Victoria and I would replace him. I had a long talk with the western Canada manager on Friday and he’s very keen to bring me on. Was kind of fate, really. He got the news about this employee transferring last Wednesday, was very distraught over losing his only good technician in the city, then received my resume and application on Friday morning. Called me right away and we talked for half an hour.
So yeah...either this company hires me and everything is all good or I have to go rent a bedroom in Victoria and work there for a while. Either way, things are looking up for the most part. I’m looking forward to being able to tell my current employer I’m leaving them high and dry with the remaining customers here. They’ll be fucked.
Oh and the best part is the company that is hiring here in my city is the one that is stealing all the work from us, because they’re the only other supplier of the equipment we sell. The remaining customers here will very likely come with me. Probably the main reason they want to hire me but I don’t care. More work for me!

It is why I roll my eyes when people say there is no reward for talent these days, good people that work hard are always in demand. In an side, for me the past months have been strange. I was expecting a Covid related downturn, but it never materialized, to the point this will probably be our most profitable year to date, despite one nightmare installation that has been pretty rough. A few years ago I decided to stop making assumptions based on economic forces, I cannot control when the wind blows, I can only set my sails and be ready. The real question now is whether I expand the company or just keep working 16hr days and bank the profits.

Sorry to hear about your new manager @mr.canoe. Sounds like since she is new she is coming down super hard on you guys and using you to make a point. Hope it gets better. Great News RT!!! Mrs.RT kind of told me what was going on when we met up yesterday but glad things are working out for you. I was worried you would have to go through all that stress again. They keep laying people off at my work, but I’m busy so I hope that means I’m okay for now. Now that I’ve bought a home I’m crapping myself about job security because I know there is no such thing. Also, I hate my boss and her love of spreadsheets. That is all.

Currently on a conference call and it blows my fucking mind how many guys I work with know how to take apart and rebuild a fire alarm system from scratch but can’t find the fucking MUTE BUTTON ON THEIR CELL PHONE.
Anyway I’m quitting. I got a new job. I start August 4th. No more worrying about making enough hours for the time being. This company is our direct competitor and they have more work than they know what to do with. I would know since we lost most of our contracts to them recently. And the rest will probably follow me over there.

Not sure where else to post this, and this seems like the most fitting thread anyway... A few weeks back, two of my current company's competitors reached out to me out of the blue to see if I'd be interested in jobs with them based on them thinking I might be a good fit (I guess based on them snooping on LinkedIn). I figure it never hurts to talk, so I tell them both that I'm interested and proceed through the interview process with both in parallel. End up getting an offer from Company A. All things being equal, I think I'd prefer Company B... but Company B is moving slower. So, I accept the offer from Company A in the meantime and start the preboarding process just to keep that ball in motion. My hope is that the preboarding process with Company A can be drawn out long enough to hopefully hear back from Company B on whether or not an offer from them is forthcoming. Here are my two most pressing concerns at the moment, and I think they pertain to both companies: 1.) Pre-employment drug testing. Here's hoping I've abstained from gummies long enough now to pass whatever piss screens I'm asked to take with no issues. Worst case, I guess if either company would want to rescind an offer based on pissing hot for marijuana, it's a mutual red flag in a way as I don't want to work for an anti-weed company. I guess I could still leverage the offer letter at that point to squeeze more money out of my current employer. 2.) Not sure how to broach the impending baby birth topic with Company A & B with respect to how it might affect start dates. Any thoughts or ideas? I don't want to jeopardize offers or anything beforehand, but I also don't want to seem like a jack ass by surprising them too late with the news. They're clearly trying to fill these roles ASAP, but it's also a very close-knit industry... so I don't want to burn bridges if possible. Based on talks with Wife, ideally I'd like to take two weeks off post-birth to help get adjusted to our new life as parents. If expected due date isn't until mid-August... not sure the best way to broach the subject and push things out. Overall, good problems to have... I guess? Also feels like stacking a lot on my plate at once: new baby, new house (moving by myself with a dwindling timeline before baby), and potentially new job at a new company all within like a month or so of each other.

I agree with @ness. See if you can start after but because babies aren’t like planned vacations and could come at any time now or he’ll make you wait, be honest and upfront with them. Much like the gummies, if they aren’t willing to make concessions for a first time father, is that the kind of company you want to work for?

I had a dentist appointment Monday and usually just take the one day off, but opted to just request a full 3 days off because fuck it. I have some annual built up and figured why not, right? Looks like stuff is going down and I wonder what I'll be walking into Thursday. Now granted since I don't deliver or really touch the actual mail/parcels it shouldn't affect me too much but since it will affect the post office in general it will come down to me sooner or later.
So we have a new Postmaster General (think CEO) appointed by the president. He's a donor and since Trump isn't a fan of us (not sure why since I thought his beef was with Bezos) it's started to make sense even if just a theory at this point. So he started in June and his first major "day one" thing was the elimination of OT across the board. 8 hours and you're done. That was my norm and honestly I stopped working an extra day a few months ago anyway so I haven't been doing OT anyway.
OT has always been a big thing in the post office. We don't have the staffing and I always just assumed it was management deciding it's cheaper to just work who they have to death instead of bringing in new people. And maybe there just aren't enough applicants. So yeah it's not uncommon for people to be working 50-60 hour weeks. I think the OT is probably more of a union thing. I know in private sectors they just thrown their hands up and say get it done and write you up for "productivity" if you can't finish what they assign you in 8 hrs.
Seeing it on reddit about various districts (including mine) putting this forth with memos and shit. How does this affect the mail? Well, if the letters aren't ready for the truck in 8 hrs... it gets delayed to tomorrow. Think of the Newman speech. Because it just keeps coming. So you gotta get it out, but the more you get it out the more it keeps coming in. So the next day you have the current day's set of mail to work AND what didn't get completed yesterday because no OT to finish it and no late trucks because again... no OT. So then it becomes a domino effect because you can't finish the current day because you're overloaded from the first. So in a weird way cutting OT just creates more OT, but since it's not allowed it just builds up.
"They" have wanted us privatized for a long ass time. And I guess this is part of the plan. Delay mail and show that it clearly can't be accomplished under the current model and we need to bring in an outside party to do it instead. I assume the goal is simply to make us a for-profit business (which means if no profit we cease to exist) and instead of being a worthwhile career people can live off of, we become an Amazon model where they hire anyone for 12-15 with no benefits. And then you get what you pay for.
But there's also the election angle. Delaying letters by a day can be the difference between getting a vote in on time or not. I think anyways. I don't know how it actually works for mail-in ballots. But yeah like I said I'm not at my office so I don't know if things are building up or not. Honestly I'm just getting prepared for shit to hit the fan and to go back on the job hunt. I'm in it till the bitter end, but I have to be prepared for not having a job with them if things go belly up.
And this is why ending Saturday deliveries that people talk about are simply not an option. It doesn't save you money by not paying for Saturday, it just makes Monday all the more stressful to complete and winds up with what... OT. Only way around OT is to basically double the work force I think.
LMAO whatever.

I called senior supervisor on Wednesday, explained Sandra was sick with symptoms..I was fine but had been in close contact so both getting tested to be safe. Explained it could take up to 72 hours for results & I’ll have to self isolate until then but I don’t work again until Friday night so just giving them heads up.
20 mins later..other senior supervisor rings asking me to come in. I explain above. Great communication.
This morning I called at 10am explaining I still hadn’t got results giving them time to cover my shift. They told me to call back at 12pm...I did, still no results. They then struggle to cover my shift but eventually got someone.
Get my results at 6pm, message both supervisors. One explains to me they’ve already covered my Sunday shift..but can I still work Saturday?
Why wouldn’t I be able to work Saturday?!
I just needed tonight covered as I hadn’t got results, I told them I’d let them know ASAP so I would have called Saturday if I still hadn’t got results & Sunday was passed the 72 hours anyway.
Oh well Sunday off for me 🥳.

The only thing I hate more than people who drive slow in the fast lane or don't use their signal light, is when my time is wasted either by someone else or my own dumbassery.
Last week I get an order from my one site, there was 1 item on it. No problem. Then site says they have to add another item. No problem. I tell vendor to hold off on quote and wait for addition. I get the addition and get the quote only for site to add another 3 more items. Two of the items were a hard dog to fuck, but I found them through another vendor. Today, the site manager who added all that shit (my usual problem child), is sending it all back as he bought it himself on his days off. Thanks for wasting my time fucktard! Gah!
I'm not saying I'd murder him, but if his wife did I would speak on her behalf in court. Justifiable homicide.

I have a customer who I did a huge amount of leg work for getting a project ready, then he contacted the supplier and did the deal direct. :@ The flip side is that I just closed my largest deal ever at Euro €6.9m The bold part makes this feel like less of a bitch and more of a brag... BUT rightfully deserved! Congrats on closing such a huge deal, my nephew!

Oh I hate when you do all the work and someone swoops in and pulls shit like that.
But great news on the big deal! :cheer:

So my current employer is being kind of petty about me leaving. I had next week booked off to use up the rest of my vacation time, and to get a little break before starting with a new company. That vacation time was approved by my boss, but then when I resigned they changed their minds.
Since my vacation time is accrued over the course of the year, I’ve only earned a little over half my days owed so far, which I’ve already used. So they call me and say they can’t pay me the vacation time because by quitting I haven’t accrued that time off.
I said “well what if I used all my vacation days in like April and then quit now? Would I owe you those 4 days?” and they’re just like “that’s not how it works.”
So they want me to work but don’t have anything for me to do. Which means they want me to stay on and not get paid next week. Which is just so nice of them to do.
Positive note: I have almost all my sick days still. Guess who is suddenly developing COVID symptoms this weekend?

Today I went into the office because I needed the stupid printer. The only other person here but me is a lovely lady who sings the songs she listens to on her headphones OUT LOUD. :suspic:
Maybe she was just trying to get me to leave. LOL
