- Wikipedia - RationalWiki A lot of ASMR youtubers want the phenomenon researched further by the scientific community (I know GW organised a clinical trial a few years ago), however their videos feature things like Astrology, chakra and other things considered pseudosciences which probably hurts their cause...even if done solely for entertainment purposes. I can’t say I understand too much about it to fully think one way or another, I just know I personally don’t feel anything. Example of ASMR video: Gentlewhispering (Probably the most well known ASMR youtuber) The W Magazine YT channel has capitalised on the trend with a series of viral videos featuring celebrities attempting ASMR for more examples below. Cardi B
Jennifer Garner
Gal Gadot
I’ve been subscribed to GW since the beginning of her YouTube channel, and at the time most were just labelled whisper/soft spoken videos..then a few years later all the videos were given the label ASMR. I don’t personally experience any “tingles” or any sensation other than finding the videos relaxing to listen to/fall asleep to. Have you ever experienced a sensation you would define as ASMR?Do you find ASMR videos relaxing, creepy or are you indifferent? Oddly enough every couple I’ve discussed ASMR with is split 50/50.I find them relaxing, gf creepy. Her cousin finds them relaxing/husband creepy. GentleWhispering’s Ex-husband finds the videos creepy as well. Discuss!

Does this include JOI videos? Well the idea of those is to feel a sensation so I guess so? 😂

I've tried it. I even did it a few times with headphones. Never got the tingles. At this point I just classify it as non-nude cam girls.

Whispering is super creepy. ASMR just reminds me of horror movies where the villain kidnaps the protagonist and blindfolds them and they have to work out where they are from concentrating on the sounds.

I used to experience ASMR all the time, way more so as a kid, most often in situations where I'd be sitting closely next to someone, or like a teacher would be bent down over my shoulder, and either providing instructions or explaining something, usually while drawing or writing something on the paper in front of me.
Always thought it was a cool experience, had no idea it was a "real" thing, or that it had a name until a random side bar on a totally unrelated podcast a year or two back. Dared to look up ASMR videos on YouTube to see if I could get the same cool feeling I hadn't had in like a million years... But the videos just don't work.
I wonder if the triggers are different for everyone? Like, I wonder if for me the physical proximity without actual contact was a big key? Or the sound of someone else scratching a pen or pencil on paper was a part of it?
I dunno, but I do know I decided the videos were bullshit and think @ness summed 'em up perfectly.

I used to watch ASMR videos fairly regularly. I would usually get the "tingles" that people often speak about and great to fall asleep to. Heather Feather and Cutebunny were usually my go to's. Although both have disappeared from YouTube as ASMR community can get well, creepy so they got scared off. I usually would only watch the standard ones whispering, clicking, brushing. I was never into the really elaborate role-play ones that a lot of ASMR YouTubers do. Although one of my major "tingle" sources i'm a little ashamed to admit are medical videos. stuff like Cranial nerve exam or general physical exam videos really knock me out quick. The soft spoken doctor combined with the hand movements and the exam process give me the "tingles" for some reason and I find it very hard to stay awake while watching them
