That's a good class but I can think of a few linemen that deserve to get in over Mawae, mainly Joe Jacoby, who seems to have dropped off the HOF radar for some reason. He was the unsung hero of Super Bowl XXII and major impact on 82 and 91 NFL Champs too. Mawae wasn't core of team that won 3 titles.

Sure Mawae didn't win any titles. But so did Joe Thomas, who never even got a chance to taste a playoff appearance. And you can bet your ass he's getting in first ballot.

Jacoby wasn't just a part of 3 Super Bowl teams he was largely responsible for them, we're talking teams that won it all with Doug Williams, Joe Thiesman, and Mark Rypien, with 3 different running backs including a rookie who STILL holds the Super Bowl rushing record in one of his only games he ever played. Jacoby was really the driving force behind that Super Bowl record, he just completely dominated that game. I just don't understand the rush to get guys like Mawae or even Joe Thomas in there when you got a guy like Jacoby who isn't even in consideration, Jacoby did it better against waaaaay tougher competition, like LT, Randy White, Harvey Martin, Reggie White, Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, c'mon.

The first ballot picks were obvious. Solid year.
Can't wait for Polamalu next year.

I think Jacoby 's biggest problem is that the only time he ever comes up in highlight reels is when was giving up sacks to Lawrence Taylor. He was so much better than that. Like you said, no other left tackle in the history of the game had more difficult matchups throughout his career. The NFC East pass-rushers of the 80's were no joke.

Joe Jacoby also gets screwed a bit by perception. He was PART of the hogs , meaning when people think about those dominant offensive lines and winning Washington teams they think of the group collectively as opposed to individuals. It's not really fair to the standout members of that line but it's the general narrative IMO.

Tony G. tried too hard to make the people in Atlanta happy in an interview yesterday and buried his time with the Chiefs and subsequently has been taking a lot of heat the last 24 hours.
But the recognition reminded me that about eight or nine years ago I made a thread titled “Tony Gonzalez is in the Hall of Fame” and asked who else that was actively playing was definitively in the Hall. I’m old now.
