I'm not really feeling the Duos Countdown (yet) but I am weirdly hyped for the upcoming Hogan match countdown. Just sent my list in. It's very non-traditional. I wouldn't be shocked if only 1 or 2 of my picks make the overall Top 10. Some stats...
5 from the 80s 2 from the 90s 3 from the 2000s
9 WWF/E matches 1 WCW match
A whopping 6 tv matches. Hogan is truly the king of (Saturday Night's) Main Event. Only 4 from pay per view with 2 of them being Wrestlemania matches.
No Rock or Savage.

I'm sure Baker will have placed Hogan/Genius and I love it. What is the working deadline for submission? I really want to get a list in but want to rewatch certain matches first.

For Mania the obvious answers are Andre n Warrior but imma say Sid and Vince.

Austin didn't wanna lose on free tv yet Hogan did. In fact Hogan did the same for Goldberg. Hogan is like the Charlotte of men... The goat. Till Brock.

Definitely leaning towards personal favorites over a traditional greatest list for Hogan. I can't wait to see the results!

Going to start suggesting some matches for people to check out if that's alright. Let's do some Hogan in Japan first, all from the Tokyo Dome, where he knows he has to change up his style. The big blond muscly gaijin selling to get sympathy is not going to get him over as much with these fans as being an asskicker. He is more aggressive and it is fun to watch. Big Pete already shared the brawl with Hansen from the WWF/AJPW Summit from 12 days after Mania VI (I like thinking about these Japanese matches in terms of what he was also doing in the States at the time, to put them in context). We have the dream tag match of Hogan/Tenryu vs. Road Warriors from 6 days after Mania VII. Big bombs, brawling, blood - super fun match. And the Tenryu singles from 9 days after This Tuesday in Texas that also has a great big fight feel. Hogan has the aggression here as well, but both men also have a sense of cautiousness early that puts each other over. Unfortunately that Dailymotion link I've shared is good picture quality (better than the YouTube ones), but the sound goes out of sync at some point, whereas the poorer picture quality YouTube ones don't. If you can be arsed, you could sync them up and watch Dailymotion while listening to YouTube. All 3 of these matches are serious contenders to make my top 10.

I rewatched one of Strobe's most pimped american matches as well, the Desert Storm match from MSG with Sgt. Slaughter. Hogan is also super aggressive here even using old time heel tactics like salt and a fire throw. He also has some bad ass gear on which emphasizes the stipulation of the match. I wish they made a special edition figure of his look here, I would even consider buying it. Sarge is great as well taking a hell of a beating from Hogan at the start and bleeding all over. Heenan really sells the point of Hogan going to the next level of agressiveness on commentary in another great performance. As I said I went real hard on personal favorites, this list strayed the most from the norm. 6 WWF 3 NJPW 1 WCW

I'm glad we're doing this list because I'm re-living some Hogan moments I completely forgot about. I brushed this one off because I couldn't think of more than 3 matches I'd put on a list, but thanks to you guys I'm thinking I might be able to make 10. Every post I'm like "oh I forgot about that," or "holy shit that WAS awesome, I really needed to re-watch that."
Good stuff. I still hate Hogan but good stuff.

I presumed I already knew what my Top 10 were, you yinz are reminding me of and/or recommending some great matches... especially some I've never seen before.
It's gonna be hard to tamp down my recency bias now after watching/rewatching some of these.

And for anyone considering the fun Race SNME match from March 1988, check out the superior June 1987 Texas Death Match (No DQ really) from MSG. At a few seconds under, it is one of the great sub-10 minute matches. Super fun sprint. This might finish quite high for me.

It will also be on my 1996 expanded edition match list in that other thread. Hogan & Race actually had another very similar "Texas Death Match" from the same time frame that made tape. They were back to back on an old Coliseum Home Video. The main reason I left them off my list is *spoiler alert* I didn't want 2 or even 3 Race matches on my list for diversity sake. Race is definitely among the best Hogan opponents though. Prime Hogan also did some good stuff with another legendary 70s NWA Champion. Hint hint.

Another match I considered that would be up Baker ,'s alley (for the result) is the first Hogan/Savage match at MSG from December 1985 where Savage wins by countout. These two had instant chemistry and their matches from 1985/86 I hope get some consideration. They also had from what I recall a pretty intense match in Detroit in the spring of '86. Due to Savage having some history in Detroit you can hear some of the crowd back Savage in this one.

The first Vader match from SuperBrawl V is still very good but not quite at the level I remembered. But the first WCW Flair match at BATB 1994 is still as great as ever. Here is a match that may have made my top 10, heel Hogan challenging Backlund for the WWF Championship at the Philly Spectrum on 4/12/80. A 30-minute Hogan match is probably not a lot of people's ideas of a good time and Backlund's style of working on top as a face isn't for everyone, but this is really good stuff and a different type of Hogan. Another super fun sub-10 min match is vs. Kamala on 1/19/87. This may have snuck on to the bottom of my list as a third MSG No DQ match. This is when Kamala still came across as a real threat, Hogan comes out in his own paint and takes it to Kamala, Kimchee and The Wizard. Plus, we get a hint dropped of the upcoming Andre heel turn post-match.

Vader/Hogan from Uncensored is another good strap match from Vader and was a near miss. Bash '94 I still consider to be the best Flair/Hogan match despite a lot of people loving the overbooked Halloween Havoc cage match.

Think in the vein of a Taker/Sting or Austin/Goldberg.

Figured it could be fun given the great minds here. Think in the vein of a Taker/Sting or Austin/Goldberg. So actually never seen? Not like, were never seen but then they eventually happened... like Cena/Rock or Rock/Hogan? Would they have to be realistic dreams, like both guys alive and in relative wrestling primes during overlapping times? Like, no Daniel Bryan vs. Dynamite Kid, or Lou Thesz vs. Frank Gotch?
