I haven't seen enough of Dandy to really fairly judge and there are people that put his peak up there with almost anyone's (and people often think that's just a piss-take due to that classic Bret promo, when it isn't), but Liger is the man and should win this tournament.

Almas didn't get through? Disgraceful. I blame Pillman. Why would you put Almas ahead? Because lots of Pillman's best stuff wasn't as a cruiser against other cruisers? He was mixing it up with the upper card at his peak as an underdog face. I can definitely see that argument against him. Otherwise, if it was just purely about weight, then Daniel Bryan should be in this, when the only place he really wrestled as a recognised junior was in Japan. It is kind of the vagueness about what constitutes a junior/cruiser. It isn't purely weight. It isn't style. I guess it's more working in a junior division or fighting for cruiser titles. And for most of your career at that, since Benoit was a top junior for years in Japan, but I wouldn't expect to see him pop up in this tournament since his biggest success was as a heavy in the States. The same issue with Pillman could be made about Rey. Do we discount most of his WWE run and simply consider only his junior work? Which is more than enough to see him have a chance of winning this really. Rey did always feel like a junior so good that he could mix it up with the big guys (in kayfabe) so he still always felt like a junior I guess, but the same argument could be made for Pillman when in the ring with Flair, Windham, Luger, etc.

You misunderstood my post. I wasn't claiming that Pillman is not a cruiserweight - I certainly think he counts. It was just a tongue-in-cheek post made because I think Almas is awesome, and I was legitimately a bit disappointed that he wasn't one of the six to advance. Pillman was my target of facetious blame because I knew he'd advance and I think he's overrated. However, your post does raise a good point. This brings me back to me saying that I never thought of Roderick Strong as a junior. He may be in the right weight class and "look like" a junior (I don't think this, maybe it's his height or something), but he's always in the top division in Indy companies which makes me think heavyweight, and I don't know if he ever competed in a junior division in Japan or somewhere else. I never thought he had a cruiserweight wrestling style either. All signs point to Roderick Strong is not a cruiserweight, but nobody else feels this way.

I don't think of Strong as a junior either, but I think it's a ROH thing. Given the size of their workers and the style, people who would be juniors in other feds didn't feel like they were there. I don't think of Ki as a junior either for example, even with his Senshi days in TNA. Maybe Strong's style, in comparison with his tag partner Aries, helped foster this idea as well. Aries always felt like more of a junior, even though they are similar size wise. It does seem like it can just be more of a feeling as to if you consider them, with style and size as factors but on an individual basis. Pillman was my target of facetious blame because I knew he'd advance and I think he's overrated. Out of interest, what Pillman have you seen?

But I would say that I also feel this way about Almas as I've only seen him in NXT where cruiserweights don't even exist! Yeah, when I was typing that post I was thinking "doesn't all of what I just said apply to Almas?" I guess the difference is that Almas wrestled for years in Mexico and so I have that lucha/cruiserweight association in my mind. Plus he wrestles much more cruiserweight-like than Strong does. Especially before he turned heel. I don't think of Strong as a junior either, but I think it's a ROH thing. Given the size of their workers and the style, people who would be juniors in other feds didn't feel like they were there. I don't think of Ki as a junior either for example, even with his Senshi days in TNA. That's a good point. Strong was one of the bigger guys in the company in the 2004-2006 period. Danielson was their World Champion and he's on the small side even by ROH standards. Out of interest, what Pillman have you seen? Not enough for my claim of overratedness to hold much weight  I've seen his match with Liger, a handful of Hollywood Blondes matches, the gun segment with Austin, an ECW promo, and I think that's it. I don't think he's a bad wrestler at all, he's certainly above average, but not this one of the GOATs shtick that some people like to claim. One of those cases where something gets overhyped so much, and I don't get it, so I start to resent it.

Taguchi. Zayn's going to be the popular vote here, but when Taguchi's on, he's legitimately one of the best juniors in the world, even past his prime in 2017. It's unfortunate that he spends most of his time wrestling a light, comedy style. On the other hand, that's very good for longevity.
