With the release of the NES and SNES Classic, the internet has been rife with all sorts of speculation. What would belong on a N64 Classic? What about a GameBoy Classic? Could we possibly get a Dreamcast Classic? While it's fun to speculate, I'd have to question whether consumers really want a Nintendo 64. Why would you want a console when arguably the best developer will barely be represented and in all likelihood cost more than the SNES Classic?
Do you think this fad will continue? Will we see more classics and would you want to keep buying them?

Honestly, I hope this doesn't become a trend in the industry. Instead of releasing more classics, I'd prefer to see Nintendo and SEGA release more classic controllers and port more of their games. There were 337 games released on the Nintendo 64, only 32 are available to be played and in order to access them you'll need a Wii U and an X Box One to play them all. It isn't cheap either and while certain games are worth their $13 AUD price-tag, if you want to buy all 25 available on Nintendo platforms, it's going to cost you $325. The best aspect of these classics is that you're buying these big bundles so if they could offer similar deals on their Virtual Console, Nintendo would make more money without the manufacturing costs. Not to mention, the appeal of being able to play these games on the go would be another incentive to buy these games again for consumers who bought them in the first place.
There were 952 Genesis games, I'd hate to be limited to 20, especially when a bundle of 30 came out not that long ago. That's probably my biggest issue with the SNES Classic. Outside of Star Fox 2 (which was a great addition), all of these games have been ported on numerous occasions. So rare games that received a limited release like say Terranigma continues to be an enigma for collectors. It's the same deal with the Nintendo 64 mini where you've got a fun racing game like Snowboard Kids 2 locked away as a collector's item that nobody is going to be able to legitimately play without splashing a lot of money. It's titles like Snowboard Kids or even unreleased games like Secret of Mana 2 that deserve more attention.

We need something similar to Sega Channel. A netflix for classic games. I don't understand how there isn't something like this already, the technology was there in 1994. I don't know that it's a fad it's been going on for a long time now, people have opened up shops selling old video games. Folks that I know opened up a shop in 2009 and they've done so well that they opened up 2 more locations within the last couple of years. I think old games will just never die, people are always going to want to play them because they hit a certain spot that new games just don't hit. I've always said that I don't play old games for nostalgia, I play them because they are just better(for me). Of course I would love to see it continue, I just wish it wouldn't be such a limited basis type of deal like what Nintendo did, you should just be able to go into a store and buy a new SNES or Genesis or NES at anytime year round. And they should continue to make new games for them.

My issue with the mini consoles is that they're cannibalizing from the virtual console market which hasn't grown significantly in the past 5-7 years. Most of these NES and SNES games we could already purchase before and we're still not any closer to seeing rare games released.

The next two classic console that come out, better have a download feature for more games. And maybe use the memory card slot on the Gamecube, to allow players to use flash cards to save those new games.

I made the comment IRL the other day, that Nintendo must be giggling to themselves. They'll never have to make a new game again.
I would also like to see Nintendo release an official app ( as compared to the hack apps ) so you can plug your snes into your PC and download different roms to it. Maybe release a few 10 Game DLC packs. Sports ( NBA Jam, Nigel Mansell WC, NHL '94, etc ) or Arcade Fighters DLC ( MK, KI, WWF Raw/RR, etc ) maybe, these updates replace all bar a core handful of Mario classics. Then of course the ability to go back to factory settings.

I like them in notion, but it'd be even better if they came with a decent chunk of memory and in the future began adding more and more games to the library. If they could get a massive library of classic games for download, they'd be golden.
