What are your favourite board games?
I’m not much of a board game person, my favourites would probably be Monopoly and then Chess. It’s more so the people I play against, for example one of my friends and my sister are super competitive so they just get super upset if they lose and take the fun out of it.
My gf works at a board game shop and she recently got to me play Ticket to Ride (Europe) and it was really fun and pretty simple to play. You basically have to connect trains to routes and earn points.
I bought Pandemic Contagion (as I have Plague Inc on my phone) and couldn’t quite work out how to play it so I’ll give it another shot in future 😂

Can’t go pass some of the classics like Monopoly, Cluedo, Jumanji, guess who, and battleship - I’ll always enjoy those games.
But since working at a game shop, the board games I enjoy the most has definitely changed. I really love Codenames, Blokus, Ticket To Ride Europe, Bloodborne Card Game, Phase 10, Werewolves, Disturbed Friends, Mysterium and even Munchkin I enjoy now.
I finally tried Pandemic, Catan and Carcassone and while I enjoyed them, I can’t see them making my favourites list any time soon.
D&D is way more fun and exciting than I ever thought it would be, and I’m super into that atm (I haven’t tried to DM yet, but I’m hoping to DM a session at some point towards the end of the year).
Definitely want to check out more games I sell at my work, but some can be quite pricey and most you need at least 3-4 players to really enjoy it. I love the games where you just need 2 people so I can play them with my partner (ticket to ride is really good in this way). But I also love 5 player games as my group of friends regularly do a games day and don’t want to anyone to miss out - which is going to be a slight issue with a new game I’m buying soon The Binding of Isaac Four Souls, which I’m hoping is good (it sounds good and heaps of people ask for it) but it’s only 2-4 people.

Catan rules but I haven't played it in a long time.
A friend of mine brought Colt Express to our house back at Christmas and I've been obsessing over it ever since. It's a fucking blast.
I don't know if Smash Up counts as a board game or a card game but my daughter and I play it all the time.

I enjoyed Catan for what I played, it can just be a little frustrating when no one wants to trade and that halts progress for a bit. I have only played it once so far though. Colt Express sounds like a lot of fun for what I just looked up about it, I may have to check that one out.

I love Monopoly , we have multiple versions of it we play on a regular basis at my house. Also play a bunch of the classics as well.
I'm becoming obsessed with Chess too , play probably 10-15 games a day. Still not very good but getting better , hopefully can get to the level I used to be.

Chess has always been my dirty little secret. I'm a savage at it and nobody knows it until I ass fuck their Queen and rip their Kings heart out at the end.
Monopoly is fun, too, but I think I only finished about 30% of games started of it in my life. Shit just gets boring as fuck at the point that someone is "monopolizing" the board. I always enjoyed Guess Who and Clue too.

Monopoly belongs in every house. Love how there's a custom board for every taste. Wanted to buy the Nintendo themed one.
It's been years since I've played a legit game with real people. Once it gets down to two people it becomes a submission match until one of us gives. Man...

I feel like Monopoly is so much faster if you play by the offical rules. No money on free parking etc.
Edit: Fixed.

So many closet chess players on PW! I'm sure I've talked about chess on here more than anybody can stomach, and nobody has really responded. I am actually a serious chess player. Currently in Rhodes, Greece playing in the so-called "World Amateur Championships". I started off great but lost my last two games so I'm out of the running now. Still, I'm here more for the enjoyment of the game and the learning experience. Winning would have been a nice bonus, but the competition is strong so I didn't expect anything much.
I don't play board games so much these days but back when I was a student I played quite a lot, with friends who had large collections.
Settlers of Catan is fun for a while, but it's not a game I would play every week. As someone mentioned, if people refuse to trade resources then the game grinds to a halt.
Concept is a really fantastic board game. Hard to describe briefly in words, but it's sort of like charades. You have to describe a word or phrase without speaking, but instead of body language clues, you have to refer to icons on a board.
Mascarade is another favourite, but you need a large group of players for it to be really effective.
Not so keen on the likes of Pandemic, Carcassonne, Monopoly, and Risk.

Monopoly and Clue are my go to board games. I like an occasional game of chess but am not an aficionado by any means.
Once you get your hotels set up you want to spend as much time in jail as possible. You can still collect rent and you don't risk landing on other people's property.

Chess.com is a fantastic website. I go on there a lot, mainly for their news articles, but I play sometimes. I prefer playing in person to playing online.
I had some fun playing Monopoly as a kid, but it really is a poorly-designed board game. Way too easy to get stuck, where nobody has a full set and everybody refuses to trade. Or one player just gets everything through the luck of the dice and nobody else has a chance. There's very little skill involved. No satisfaction when you win, and frustration when you lose.

Chess.com is a fantastic website. I go on there a lot, mainly for their news articles, but I play sometimes. I prefer playing in person to playing online. I prefer in person as well , I'm simply better at live chess than playing on my phone. I do like going on there and playing other people though , playing new and different people helps you get better and learn different things. My rating is constantly spiking up , I get to a different level of player and it plummets until I learn new things.

My whole life I thought you couldn't collect, hence you need to GTFO.

Wife and I love board and card games. Always feels like it's hard to find other couples friends who are into them too though for some reason. Monopoly is what separates her and me though. I love it; she hates it. Also, a young 🤯 and friends in high school and on college break used to get together for massive Diplomacy games. So much bettert han Risk (which isn't meant as a knock on Risk). The near-fist fights that nearly broke out... insane stuff.

We are a huge board game family. We had tons of them growing up. Mom and I are big Trivial Pursuit fans. Of course there were always the classics like Sorry, Trouble, Payday, Clue, Game of Life, etc. When my daughter was younger we instituted family game night. It was usually on a Tuesday. No phones, TV, etc. She still comes over for dinner and we'll play a board game after. Usually Clue or Game of Life now.
I love Chess, I'm just not very good at it or strategic games.
While not technically a board game, Mom and I are are big Cribbage players which uses a board to peg. We got given Cribbage Wars for Christmas and have highly enjoyed that. Really changes the game up.

I loved my board games growing up. When my brother temporarily moved back in with me a few years back we'd occasionally break out the old board games.
I dug most of the ones that have been mentioned- Monopoly, Clue, Risk, Sorry & Life. Stratego was another favorite. I also liked Connect Four, Pictionary, and Taboo.
Chess is one of my biggest weaknesses. I just don't have the patience for it and will inevitably make a stupid move just to "get something going." I have like a lifetime 10% winning percentage. Terrible!
I have never played Catan. I never even heard of it before last week when I came *this close* to playing at an Easter family function. Alas, it was time to go. I only have about 2 or 3 hours worth of material at these family get togethers. Then I need to get out of there.
Saving the best for last, Uncle Wiggily is the GOAT board game for its sheer WTFness. Cure that rheumatism and beware the Bad Pipsisewah!

We’d never heard of it until we got it for Christmas from my daughters boyfriend.

Growing up we always got the garage sale editions missing half the pieces. We also played more card games growing up like Go Fish, Old Maid, Battle, 21, ect...
My sister is trying to keep niece (7) and nephew (5) from getting hooked on video games. So they have quite a few board games. They like Pop the Pig, Trouble, and Disney Memory.
