So here is last night’s catering conversation brought to me by one of the chefs.
There is a former person from the restaurant who is transitioning from female to male. That person had a “Go Fund Me” to fund their breast augmentation surgery. That was successful. Now, in an attempt to get pregnant they have found that they are unable to conceive errr naturally. So, that person who was born with a vagina, who wants to be a male, wants to be pregnant. Arguably, the most female thing you could do, but that’s just a social convention fool you. Men can be pregnant too.. But not this err man. So, they have started a “Go Fund Me” for their in vitro fertilization.
It’s a free world. Go Fund Me can be used for whatever reason you want and whatever reason you get money for is just a proof positive. But c’mon, this is elective as hell.
Similarly, a friend of mine used a Go Fund Me to help pay for her studying abroad for her masters. I voted with my dollar to not fund that. I will tip her at the bar when she is working and that’s it.
Is there an invisible line of where Go Fund Me should be used or shouldn't be used in your opinion?

A fool and his money are easily parted. Or however the phrase goes. As long as it's not violating the TOS I see no issue. Simps gonna simp.

There has to be some sort of common sense filter in place. A couple recently promoted a $10,000 cash-grab on their socials to fund their never-ending travels. Nope.
We've had a similar discussion at work, we often get contacted by different organizations for support. 90% of the time, if it's clearly a charity, we will support them in some fashion. However, we've had private clubs wanting us to sponsor their private event - not a lick of charity in sight. Nope again.
Then there's Israel Folau, another example why athletes should be seen and not heard. What a spud. Opinions aside, the man is asking for $3M to fund is legal campaign, yet has a $7M real estate portfolio. What a great cause.

I got a lot of shit when it came to funding charities at my college. I refused to support raising money for any national groups. Most of the people in the groups I worked with wanted to jump on whatever the big funding trend was not caring that the people who are made rich are the organization raising money. Go Fund Me takes 30% of all money raised. Many charity groups take millions in operating costs, including 6 to 7 figure salaries for the people running the charity. This is madness. If we gave money to some of them, for every dollar given 20 cents or less would go to direct help. When we gave to the women's center or some after school groups they would use it all on direct aid. It seems crazy to me to raise money for shit that is either advertising or paying people to collect and spend money. I would rather give it to someone funding getting drunk on the weekend, as at least then a person benefits, rather than paying someone to then advertise themselves or just pocket it as costs.
