This was gonna be a spin-off of the job thread where I was gonna inquire about what everyone has for a car (whatchu driving) but I'm changing it a little. Ever been in a wreck? Parking lot fender bender? Let's talk about them!
So I've been involved in 4 incidents.
First one happened in the early 2000's back when I actually went to the comic shop to buy books. So this was probably between 2003 and 2007ish. I was heading to my local store on a Wednesday around noon when someone bumped me from behind. Their story was someone actually hit them from behind and sped off. No damage to either of our vehicles, so it wasn't worth the trouble.
My second incident was an actual accident and I think it was Christmas Eve of 2011. This was during the brief time I had a gym membership. I don't recommend it as documented in this thread. I went out to work out, but changed my mind on the way over so I cut through a mostly empty parking lot to take a longer route because there was a good song on the radio. Someone else had the same idea and BAM. Head-on-collision. Perhaps we both reacted in time because it could've been a lot worse. Also my Dad's car, so that was a fun little phone call. Hey Pops ya know how your windshield usually looks like this?
I'm currently driving a 2014 Corolla that my Dad gifted me for $1, so obviously he's not too upset about the whole totaled business. Since I've taken ownership of it I've been involved in 2 more minor incidents. I went to get some food from Rally's (because of course I was) and the line was backed up. Some girl (fun fact: all of my accidents have involved laydees) didn't bother looking before backing up. Nothing on my car, but I was a little shook up and haven't been to a Rally's since. Also since it happened while I was in line I never did get any!
My most recent incident took place the Saturday before the previous Mother's Day. There's a nearby bike path, so I was slowing down to give them the right of way. Some lady was following too close and hit me in the back. It felt so much worse than it actually was because I was expecting the worst, but the only part that was noticeable was her front license outline on my back. But that was only because I hadn't washed it in a while so it was dusty. No damage.
1 major accident that may have been my fault vs. 3 no damage taps that were definitely not mine. I hope I'm done with this shit.
How about you guys? Anything?

Two times.
First accident I was waiting at a green light to turn left. Some lady just drove into me, totally spaced and not paying attention. Me and my passenger were fine, her cavalier went right under my truck. She was shook. Kept whining āI JUST GOT IT PAINTEDā over and over. She went to the hospital and the cops were like āyeah obviously not your fault, go home.ā
Second time I was in a parking lot and turning left into a spot. Some dude drove into my right side going for the same spot, speeding across parking spaces and didnāt see me already pulling in to the spot. He gave me his info and begged me not to call the cops because āhe was between insurances.ā Be being 17 and dumb I just said āsure whateverā and went about my day because my truck was once again fine. Two days later a cop showed up at my parents house and served me. Turns out he had insurance and was lying. We went to court and he didnāt show. Charges dropped.

1 and only.
2001, a few months after getting my Ps. ( probationary licence ) cruising along in my then 20 year old car, distracted by whatever, the line of cars in front came to a sudden halt, and couldnāt brake in time. Spent the school holidays being driven around and finding second hand parts and learning a valuable lesson - I donāt enjoy rebuilding a front ends, so donāt crash.
Iāve since just purchased almost the same model car, a now 37 year old car as a project, and Iām amazed how good new cars are after driving this old beast.

I currently drive a 2007 Pontiac Montana; I don't have any seats in the back and use it to sleep in while running in the mountains. It's worked for 7 years, time for an upgrade though.
When I was 16 on my learners license, I was driving my dads shitty boat of a car. My Dad was stressing me out, and I drove through a stop sign and we got T boned, the mcdonalds went flying everywhere. The car was quite damaged, and no one was hurt and my dad drove the damaged vehicle for a few more years.
Later that year when I was driving my 1963 Plymouth Valient. Me and my nuds were cruising the beach, there may have been some drinking happening that day, and I wrecked the front end of the car.
I think it was 2006 or so, my girlfriend at the time drove my truck down a cliff, and it was just completely wrecked. Wasn't my accident, but it went on my record.

As a passenger I was in over 25 accidents. This made me scared to drive so I actually didn't get my licence until I was 23. The first week I had my licence I got into an accident where I turned left in front of someone I thought was turning and wrote my car off. Did not drive again until I was 27. Ironically, since then not one accident...with other vehicles. I have a tendency to back into signs.

I've not driven very much in life. Passed my test over 5 years ago and since then not at all until a few months ago when I started driving my mother's car semi-regularly after some refresher lessons. No accidents, and I hope to keep it that way.
However, I have been in one accident when I was the front side passenger. A friend of mine was driving me to a chess match. It was January or February. A snowy day. We come off the motorway probably a litle too fast. The exit road was a relatively unused one and still a little icy apparently. Car slides on the ice, driver loses complete control. Before I can fully comprehend what is happening, BAM, right into the guard rail at 40-50 miles per hour. Car bounces off the steel and slides backwards a fair distance. My legs feel a little funny. Driver is fine. We sit in the car and contemplate our situation. I see a decent amount of smoke coming out of the front. I get paranoid the car is going to suddenly explode like in the movies. We hightail it out of there. At least, he does. I can't straighten my left knee. It hurts when I try. I hobble my way to the side of the road with snow falling on me. Turns out nothing serious happened to my knee and it sorted itself out after a few minutes. I'm guessing my long bony legs just banged against the glove compartment pretty hard, and my left knee took the brunt of it.
We call the recovery service, a very nice dude drives us back with a wrecked car in tow. We are both surprisingly chill about the situation. Two chess players in a car accident. What do you think we do? I stop by his house, we get some food, and then play chess together
The car didn't explode by the way :suspic:

I get nervous stopping at a red light. Any time someone comes behind me seems like they get as close as possible. Objects in the mirror and all that but internally I can't not shout HIT YO BREAKS FOOL.

Objects in the mirror and all that but internally I can't not shout HIT YO BREAKS FOOL. This I don't mind, but I do get nervous when I'm driving on a normal enough road at a reasonable enough speed and someone rides my ass. It gives me this psychological urge to drive faster that's difficult to resist.

I'm always surprised whenever I heard that using your phone while driving isn't illegal in America. But then you have guns too so I guess I shouldn't be.

You can be given a ticket for texting, but that's about it. On the same level of "click it or ticket" with regards to seat belts. People have to be forced to use seatbelts with fear of a ticket. GOING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD is not a deterrent to my fellow Americans.

I'm always surprised whenever I heard that using your phone while driving isn't illegal Yeah I was watching an episode of Ride Along and Summer Rae was just casually driving using her phone in her hand for the GPS (with passengers who could have done it) Fans criticised her driving and her nonchalant twitter response was āI was using my phone as a GPS?ā youād at the very least get a fine here for that.

As a passenger I was in over 25 accidents. This is insane to me. I can't believe it's been no sold up to now. Who was driving in all these accidents? I have been in a total of 4 accidents. 3 of them I was driving. First was when I was 10 or 11 some high school kid(s) ran a red light and totaled my mom's car as she was taking my brother and I to school. We were all fine, which everybody seemed to think was a miracle. I remember my mom and brother screaming while I just sat there calm as a cucumber. My mom has always said I was in shock but I just think I was quietly content to miss a day of school. Second was a minor fender bender around 2000 when some guy around my own age rear ended me at a red light as I was driving my hand me down 1988 Dodge Aries station wagon known locally as the shaggin' wagon despite the distinct lack of shaggin' going on in this wagon. No damage was done. I was a little shaken up mentally with this being my first accident as a driver, but the other guy was literally shaking. He gave some sob story and I let him off the hook in the style of RT since no damage was done and I didn't want to deal with the hassle of insurance and all that nonsense. Third time was around 2010-2011. I was driving my rather dilapidated by this point 2000 Hyundai Elantra while waiting to turn left in a parking lot when some asshole rear ended me. Said asshole then tried blaming ME for his shitty driving. I did not like this man. Enough damage was done to where I had to get a rental for about a week Fourth was in December 2016. I was on my way home from work in my very reliable 2013 Toyota Corolla which I still have to this day. Some slow putter was in front of me so I changed lanes to pass when some dumbass was STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE! I was admittedly going a little too fast but who the hell just stops in the middle of a major road?!? Luckily I slammed on the brakes so it wasn't a MAJOR accident but it definitely could have been. A fair amount of damage was done to both vehicles, but nothing astronomical. I got one call a few weeks later about the woman claiming injuries and a potential lawsuit, but never got a follow up call, thank goodness.

I can only think of 2, once my dad hit a patch of ice and took out a phone pole, another somebody rear ended us sitting at a stop light (also with dad).

As a passenger I was in over 25 accidents. This is insane to me. I can't believe it's been no sold up to now. Who was driving in all these accidents? I know it seems like 'there's no way', but I swear it's 100% true. Mostly fender benders and all but two when I was under the age of 18. Sadly, my dad used to drink and drive a lot. It was before they really cracked down on it. I can't even remember how many cars we went through during those years. Then when my friends were old enough to drive, it started to be them. In one week in high school I was in 3 rear enders ( ) with 3 different friends. There was a joke going aroud that I was a 'jinx', because I was the only constant variable in all those accidents.
Since high school I've only been in 2 accidents as a passenger. One in 1997 & one in 2002. Both friends driving, because I didn't drive at the time. And then the one I had when I was driving right after I got my licence (that was 1999-2000).
Coincidentally, I've had a bad back and neck since I've been 12.

My first time driving I put my momās car in a ditch. Not a great start
Otherwise Iāve been in three accidents, a guy rear ended me at a stoplight, someone backed into the side of my car because they didnāt see that traffic was lined up behind them, and I did a donut on the highway and wrapped my car around a tree a few years ago on fresh snow.

I have only been really driving for a little over a year. I had beginners when I was 17 but stopped renewing it a few years later. I could never afford a car and preferred to bike everywhere so saw no need for it. What ended up changing that was my father moved in with me after walking out on my emotionally abusive step-mom. He couldn't drive anymore due to vision issues. He still had a license but chose not to drive. so I got a beginners license. I ended up lucking out as I had a beginners back in 2001 so I ended up bypassing something called "graduated Licensing" which prevents you from getting a full license for like 18 months so I could go for a full license whenever. My dad officially had a his license pulled about 6 months after moving in with me so I had to go and get my full. My dad has a 2011 Chevy Colorado that only had 40k KM's because his vision had been getting worse so he only drove it on occasion so basically the truck is mine as my Dad can no longer drive it
So far I have had one very minor accident and one very close call and a few "bumps" with objects. The minor accident was I was pulling into my apartment parking spot. It is a middle spot so if my neighbors are parked in their spots beside me and behind me it can be a real bitch to park. I ended up lightly nudging the car beside me trying to pull in. Luckily the guy felt there wasn't any damage worth reporting so nothing came from it. The day was already a stressful one as I had just gotten back from being stuck in a parking lot where I locked my keys in my truck on a Sunday and it cost $150 to get a locksmith out lol.
The close call was last winter I was driving my Mom to the grocery store(she just had Knee surgery) and when I was pulling up to a truck that had stopped at a stop sign and began to brake but my mom's car just started to slide and i was getting closer and closer to the guys truck realizing I was not going to stop in time. Luckily instinct kicked in and was was able to steer into the opposite lane and got lucky no one was in that lane.
The "bumps" I have had was I nudged some parking poles a few times. Misjudge how far out the bumper was when pulling into a parking lot spot in front of a store. Knocked over a wood pole at my brother's cabin backing up, slightly hit my driver side mirror on a phone pole. There is this spot in my parking lot if someone is not parked in I can get a direct shot at a perfect angle to pull into my parking spot. I got a little too close to the telephone pole one time.

I remember being in one accident as a passenger when I was a kid. I was riding with my Mom in I think our van but I could be wrong, anyways she was pulling out of the gas station into the street and this car comes out of nowhere and crashes into us. I don't remember much else about that incident it's been so long.
My first accident as a driver was in 2009, I had just got my license for my 1994 Toyota Corolla a week or so before and I was going to work. I stopped at a red light and when I had done that I had hit my brakes too late and the guy behind me rear ended me. No real damage to my car, but his front end was pretty bent out of shape. I was so shaken up and nervous during the whole thing, fortunately he was cool about it.
The second time I got hit was still in my 94 Corolla when I got backed into after leaving the post office. This guy wasn't as cool as the first guy, and tried to pin the blame on me but after awhile he cooled down and realized he was to blame. From what I recall no real damage to my car again except for maybe a minor dent.

I've been driving to work this week because my train line has been closed for construction works and the amount of terrible driving I've seen has really been shocking. When you see the aggression that a lot of people drive with it's no surprise there are always lots of accidents and our local road toll is as high as it is. Changing lanes incessantly isn't going to get you to your destination any quicker when the traffic is heavy.
I've only been in one accident, luckily my old man is a very good driver and managed to minimise the damage when a guy came across from the other side of an undivided highway. He claimed to have had an epileptic seizure but I wasn't convinced. As a driver the worst I've ever done is scratch up the side of my car in a city carpark trying to turn a narrow corner with another car coming the other way. Cost way too much to fix up for a uni student.

My car with hit on the side while in the drive way on a house that wasn't on the corner. The car made a sharp left hit a stop sign went through one yard, missed my mom's tree in the center of her yard hit my former car off the driveway into the other neighbor yard, went across street into the person across the street from my mom's mail box. Sounds to stupid to be true maybe pics or it didn't happen? Well... i.postimg.cc/SRFD78dx/Car-Damage-001.jpg

I was going to make a new thread but remembered this.
last week of the nicest patrons to ever come into my work was killed in a motorbike accident aged 65 leaving behind his wife and daughter.
This week one of the security guards is in hospital with severe injuries as a woman drove head on into his car on purpose to kill herself.
Drivers on roads are just insane lately and it just seems like owning a Dashcam is a must as very little ever seems to be done about the continuous trend of reckless driving..at least in my area. Not that itās going to stop any potential harm to you but at least you have video evidence.
Do you own a Dashcam?
This Youtube channel is a great showcase of all the idiot drivers in Australia.

I have a GoPro knockoff on my motorcycle helmet. I'm assuming that, since I have a crotch rocket, in any case of an accident it would be assumed by an outsider that it MUST be my fault and obviously I was the one behaving recklessly, so even though I *knock on wood* haven't needed the footage so far it's nice to know I have proof of my safe riding if I need it.
Plus, any time a driver starts getting upset at my ability to split lanes and gets ready to yell at me they see the camera on my chin, decide they don't want to be Youtube famous and silently fume as they let me on my way. That's happened once or twice.

My car comes with a camera system. I think they are necessary in this day and age, especially if you drive for a living. My drive to work is now across the city and three times as long and the drive has added stress to my life because the drivers here are just that bad. I was in Calgary yesterday (3 hrs away) and I could tell when we were getting closer to Edmonton just by the other drivers. The left lane is for passing!!! Signal lights...use them!!!

I bought an old project car in June, and the thing you realise is, how terrible people are. Not terrible drivers, terrible people.
Whenever I drive it, I sit back, give myself space and cruise at the limit. Thereās at least one idiot looks you up and down and then wants to test you by cutting you off.

I do not have a dashcam, but should really invest in one considering I live in NYC and people are nuts out here.
My first car accident was actually 3 days in with my license/new car. I went to hit the brakes approaching the red light being all casual like a pro and my foot missed the brakes, hit the gas and plow. Smashed the car in front of me. Fucked up the front of my car, too which was a BRAND NEW CAR! 3 DAYS OLD! How fucking awful?
My second accident I was in the passenger seat and my cousin was driving. It was raining and there's this snake road he decided to drive like it was a normal day out. His car ended up sliding, spinning and SMASH! We smashed right into the pole. God was with us that day, because the backseat passenger door got smashed in right behind me. Crazy too, because my other cousin was supposed to come out with us but decided last minute not to. He would have been in the backseat. Crazy shit. I didn't feel any pain and the cops/EMTs wanted us to get checked out because of the damage, but I'm a bad ass and was fine.
My third car accident involved me waiting for a parking spot in a parking lot when a car reversed right into the back of my car. Minor damage, but I will still call it an accident.
My fourth car accident was a big deal to me. It was a part of me deciding to clean up and sober up. It was 10pm on March 25th. Two hours before my birthday! I was driving home from work (WITH NO SEATBELT!) and rolling a joint at the same time. No lie. Like a boss. Or so I thought. As I'm rolling, I look down at my joint for what must have been longer then two seconds. My car wasn't even going that fast, maybe 10-15 miles per hour. Since I was looking down, finished breaking up the weed and rolling a tight ass joint, all of a sudden.... SMASH! I hit a parked car and since I'm in panic mode, I hit the gas instead of the brakes out of pure reaction and drive my car into the car worse and worse and worse. What ended up happening is my car would get totaled and I was sore the next day. So much front end damage from not even driving that fast and my car was finished. Me being the youthful maniac that I am licked up the joint, finished the roll and put it in my pants. The cops came, the owner of the car came out, they questioned me and I lied and said that I was exhausted from work and lost control. My car got towed, my wife came and picked me up, we got home, I smoked the joint and the next day ended up buying a new car on my birthday. Yes, I got off easy, but it was one of the many pieces that led to my sobriety.
